How do you join to get you to help purchase a used bike.
I’ve had that same exact tarmac since 2012, I bought the frame used off of a dentist and I still think it’s one of the coolest looking bikes. I run a 50 mm China carbon wheelset and ride with guys on 10k usd bikes all day. If you know you know ! My mechanical dura ace battery hasn’t died yet!
76 yo cyclist here. I'm addicted to cycling, every day, also addicted to the endorphine 'hit' I get after riding my Avanti full carbon road bike. Ride every day, keeps my 'hinges' loose, keeps me young-ish ! I didn't go overboard when bying my Avanti $3500 and that's with DuraAce goodies, including DuraAce rim brakes, gave the shop mechanic a hand to assemble it (I'm a retired M/mechanic) if your prepared to shop around and/roll yr sleeves up, you can still grab a bargan.

The absolute best and most true cycling content on the internet
Great information and utter facts, Overspending for literally no reason!
Awesome educational video! Don't forget Giant TCR advenced, advanced Pro, Canyone ultimate slx, sl rim brake!
I’m still riding my Sl2! Almost 15 years now lol. Mines the black frame with white lettering. So easy to work on
Thank you That video was perfectly timed❤
Excellent video. Great information. Wonderful bike.
Thumbs up 100% I wish I found your channel when I started cycling
I own a Specialized Roubaix from the same period. Still rides like a dream. Mechanical Ultegra 3x10 let's me ride everywhere. I just change the wheelsset depending the terrain.
When you have a fork inspection at 10:45 but a frat party at 11 😂😂 sick SL2! Hope you having a sick time in sydney with natasha!
Great advice as usual, I purchased a 2012 Cannondale SS Evo it is definitely now my favourite bike, 6.3kg and very fast.

Bought one for my son. When he's not using it, though, sometimes I steal it. Don't tell my super-expensive 2021 Italian superbike, but I think I like the old SuperSix a bit better from a ride feel standpoint.
Awesome Content Harley
Park Tool Tree 😂😂😂 killed me man. Great video, thanks for all the info and wisdom!!!
Thanks, thanks, thanks. A million thanks . I loved it
GCN dont talk about these, but Durian is, keep it up man
Glad you mentioned the Cervélo R Series….I have an 11 year old Cervélo R5, the limited edition VWD version, rim brakes, cable gears. Supremely nimble bike. Weighs 8kg with pedals, water bottle, lights and garmin. I paid £2500.00 GBP for it back then with a part exchange deal, the current 2023 model is between £8000-£11000 GBP! Bonkers money.
Durian,,he is truly the man of the peoples!!!
Great vid. One read why bikes are too complex and fiddly to work is so you have got to take it to a bike shop. Without the boutique bike shops the big brands would have a smaller platform on which to sell their bikes. I know about online sales but most people would like to see before buying.
Video quality looking much better! Enjoy the content.
Top man, thank fuck someone’s out there telling truth 👍

Where can I buy one? EBay possibly
The very nature of the top headset splitring means every bump in the road compress' the steerer tube. The original A headsets had a 6mm tall plastic split ring which helps but the fork really needs a metal outer sleeve to prevent crushing
Giving you a shout out, uploading 2 videos commending you on INSPECTING YOUR FORKS STEERER TUBES - most important thing you can do to your used bike!
Power to the people, Harley, those high-performance bikes are actually affordable and nothing wrong with a little use as components get replaced or upgraded anyway. And thanks for your 'ring of death' demonstration, always a fine public service announcement. Just one problem, however. I think those Park Tool trees are sold only in Australia. 😀

Not anymore. Oil on the sleeve already 😂
I have the exact same SL2. It’s such a bad ass bike, I could never bear to part with it
I have a 2012 Tarmac similar that. Last checked my fork a few days ago. To save a few extra seconds you can leave the wheel in.
I totally agree with you about bike ripoffs ...especially the ebike boom going on right now...i suspect some great deals will be available in a few years once it becomes so competitive that prices will NEED to come down if they want a market share worth talking about at all!!! not everyone has 5-6k to spend on a bike...not even 2500$. im going to build my own with a 99 schwinn i got new in 99 before they started selling out to big box stores...and with the high performance conversion kit and battery i will spend under $1400...for something that will easily out perform some $5000 bikes hands down. NO crazy low speed restrictions like a max 35km/hr top speed. i dont mean to want to hit 120kmh but i think 60-65kmh is a fun speed for at least a bit of adrenaline otherwise why electrify at all right? good video bro...keep on fighting all these ripoff companies!!!! they dont need to rip people off to stay afloat...thats BS!
Good video. 👍
I have a 2007 LOOK 555 Ultegra that is 95% as good as new. Nimble, light, and a great bike. Now I do take very good care of it.. But I've seen them in great shape at darn good prices..
Your advice is so on point. I see it all the time at my LBS, the hobby rider spending €10-12k on the latest top end road bike when there are real gems (your list is perfect) available below €1k!!! As an MTBer I have just bought a Klein Quantum Pro Q for €800 to get me back into road riding this spring and I'm not broke!
Man, you made me check my steerer and turns out I'm riding with a small but not insignificant ring of death. Looked at an earlier video where you protect the steerer with some fiber tape and did the same. Also contacted the bike manufacturer to look at the photos and tell me if I need a new fork.
Avanti Quantum Team was a pretty solid bike. A guy I rode with did Race Across America in 2011 on one.

Mine is the Avanti Corsa SL. when 'building' this bicycle. I supplied the Mavic wheels, Conti tyres, Shift levers and pedals, I wrapped the h/bar myself, when I bought the bike home, oh yea, I supplied the shift levers too. Cheers from Western subs of Melbourne.
thank you!!!!
I agree, I've got one! :-) Best road bike I've ever ridden and I'm not selling it. Ultegra 11 speed groupset, carbon tubular wheels... 6.9KG. The bike is far better than I am!
Hey Durianrider, nice Pullover.
Ah, the Park Tool AFT-25 stand, aka A Fuckin Tree! The other day I was servicing my steerer (just cleaning a bit and checking for the Ring of Death, I found out that was a thing from one of your vids btw, thanks!), it always comes down without effort. Is it common for steerers to be tight like in this vid? I noticed that in other of your vids. Cheers!

Just bought a used CAAD 10 and was on the lookout for all 3 bikes due to their iconic status. 2015 is best year for CAAD 10 as you will get 11 speed. I went with the CAAD 10 as already have a nice carbon bike but not a nice aluminium bike, otherwise I'd have gladly bought the other two. All have BB30/PF30, whilst all have non Shimano cranks. If you want external cables then I'd avoid the 2018 Supersix as will be a faff to recable. Price was a factor for me and Tarmacs tended to be overpriced so went with Cannondale. Meanwhile, CAAD 10's tended to be heavily ridden so finding a good example was tough. Also, watch out for geometry differences between CAAD/Supersix and Tarmac
Surprised you didn't mention the Giant TCR. Can find some solid framesets on Fleabay still. ISP seatmost isn't the greatest but the headtube and BB are built very well.
I just bought a used Cannondale Super 6 here in Switzerland for $800. Love it and it’s perfect. Did a 100k yesterday on it. On the descents in just a free roll I was beating my bud who just spent a ridiculous amount of cash on a new Rose. And he weighs more than me. Came with a computer as well. Keep those eyes peeled folks!

bought a brand new 2015 allez sprint in 2021....took many strava KOMs from those on 10k pinarellos
Harley is right again, i remember about 10 years ago when i thought a 10 thousand dollar bike was an insane amount of money for a bike and now they’re closer to 20 thousand! That’s twice as much as I paid for my Kawasaki Z650 out the door. I have a 2018 Roubaix comp with upgrades, 2015 ALLEZ Pro model and a 2014 Sirrus hybrid. Together they cost a little over 10 thousand dollars which is reasonable I guess but now it’s so ridiculous that it’s funny, people actually pay that much for something without a motor.
Classic awareness
Great vid! Love your honesty, rare quality now-a-days
Buy a carbon POS for $7000 and in five years it is worth $700! Buy a handmade steel bike for $5000 and in 20 yrs it's worth $5000
10 out of 10 mate!!
all rounder bike mech amazing oldschool fix
"Built for the Belgian dopers" Lol can't get enough of this guy! Thanks for another great video!
Can you do an equivalent for mountain bikes? Or just a top vintage mtb's to buy?
Durian rider you should collaborate with the Indian mech Eng on the structural impact of disc brakes on frame design. I feel that disc brakes call for forces to be transmitted through the rear triangle such that this area of the frame will be significantly heavier rather a rim brake bike where the forces are transmitted more directly to the rear tyre. Same story for the front brakes. Aero bikes ie aero tubing etc - what BS is that. The rider’s positioning on the bike will have 10x more the aero effect than aero tubes, the frontal area of the rider is so much greater than the frontal area of the frame tubing. 😮
Always make sure while walking under trees ware a cycle helmet , I like the fact you say it as it is and not speak with forked tongue, song for the video = Truth Hurts = Lizzie.
That's a nice pair of catalyst pedals. Will you let go for 10 bucks?
What is your opinion on Pinarello Dogma 65.1 Think2? It was the bike that Froome and Wiggins were riding winning back to back TDF back in the day. I found one from a local guy here for 1200 bucks with Sram Force 10 speed and Mavic Ksyrium. The white bits have become quite yellowish though. Is it a good idea or should I look for something else? I live in Cyprus and here the second hand bike market is very small with very limited options.
cool video, thank you. I got those ringed marks under my stem on my carbon steerer too, I can feel the „scratch“ with my finger, it looks white on the black carbon. it is not very deep. looks a bit like in your video. is this normal to a certain degree? when should I worry?
A checked fork a day keeps the brain surgeon away
Thoughts on Tarmac 2015 vs Supersix Evo 2018 vs CAAD10 2015 people?
Cool Video :)
I recently bought a specialized tarmac sl4 but then saw a 2017(?) cannondale supersix evo (with better groupset) for a bit more expensive price. Should i keep my tarmac or should i sell it and purchase the ss evo? What's the better performing/overall frame between the two?
I am looking for a bike to ride 160km on road, then some dirt roading. Which one would be better? 22 Speeder 900 vs 22 Silex 400? The last person i asked claims the Silex is far better for what I want to do, but I don't buy it! I will carry alot of weight, which is why I am not looking for a road bike.
I've been looking for a CAAD10 for a while now and can't seem to find one close enough to justify a purchase. Got a CAAD8 within range- would I be disappointed with that one over the 10?
Durianrider, do a reaction video to Bryan Johnson. He's the most undercarbed hype talking right now!

That Tailfin rear rack probably cost nearly the used Scott Addict. Ha
I dont even worry to much about the ring of death any more , if i get one with a little damage i just epoxy a aluminum sleeve and forget about it , safer any ways . RIM BRAKES FOR EVER
Finally someone doing real talk! I have the chance to buy a Trek Madone 5.5 2010 for 1000€, is that a fair deal? The bike is in really good shape and rides so sweet. I am glad I listened to your video and not all those Instagramers riding 3000-4000€ road bikes…
