5 tips for trout fishing in lakes
Ғылым және технология
Here are 5 tips for trout fishing in lakes.
Personally, I prefer to do most of my trout fishing in streams, however during the winter months when the trout streams are all closed, I am limited to lakes and impoundments.
This winter, I have not even had the chance to get out and go trout fishing in a lake as I have been far too busy with work. I am hoping that changes next week so that I can get out and wet a line, most likely in Lake William Hovell.
Although I was at Lake William Hovell yesterday, I was not fishing for trout. In fact, I was not fishing at all as I am on-call at work and had to be back in an area with phone service pretty quickly, so I done some filming and some photography and got out of there.
So here are my personal top 5 tips for trout fishing in lakes.
Other people may have tips, if so feel free to leave them in the comments below, but for now, here are my top 5 tips for trout fishing in lakes.

Caught trout up to 12lbs wild and some serious saltwater trophies including the snapper in my profile pic and a 250kg bronze whaler i got landbased. Still got a lot to learn but robbie definatly kicked my passion into play.

Blake right on man that’s amazing! Yea I just recently found his channel and he’s got a lot of interesting videos!
Another great video with some simply put top tips and a fantastic location. I must admit though I keep looking at those hills and I know what I would be doing but for those passionate fishermen out there you could do a lot worse than listen to Robbie's hot tips. He increased my success rate while fishing so he must be a bloody wizard. LOL. Great Job mate...........
Thanks you sir for all the helpful info! I always casted thinking they were going for warmer waters! I will be trying them Shady areas and days, no wonder I haven’t caught anything big yet!

Robbie can I just thank you for being a good sport it's all learning. And yes thank you for correcting me😅, rivers are closed winter time. The point I was trying to make was timing is everything even fishing winter time around river mouths and along banks after the brown trout have finished their run they are more confident then rainbows and will feed in shallow water up close to the banks. Thanks again for being a good bloke would love to trade fishing tips with you one day on the water cheers. 🍻

Hey Mate, love your show. I live in Ballarat - next time you come this way to do a vid on Wendouree (trolling vs shore fishing, maybe?) I'd love to know just to be able to stop by and give a proper hello.
I live near a large unstocked lake with loads of predators in Ireland like redfin and pike and if I use bait I catch large bait fish and if I use lures I catch pike (wich are like pickerel but a lot bigger)
Great tips mate. I'm an avid trout fisherman from the UK. A pommy! 😉

Great video buddy salut you from Ireland.. I'm new to fishing and looking forward to catch my first trout in the near future... I have one question do I use a float or do I bottom lake fishing?
@robbiefishing

Thanks so much mate. You can catch trout both ways. I like to bottom fish because it is easier, but have caught trout on floats. Floats seem to work well in shallower Lakes of just a few meters deep.

Hey is there any specific technic to the retreval of the lures? Like should a twich it or pause it? and awesome video mate

Hey buddy that varies from lure to lure. Some need to be paused and some don't. Winged lures such as Tassie Devil lures need to be retrieved faster etc...

Can you please tell me what I'm doing wrong with fishing for Redfin . What I do is do a running sinker with the smallest sinker I have with worms on a long shanked hook and then let it sit for half an hour . With soft plastics I cast the in slowly reel in and then jig it up reel in the slack then jig repeat I can't tell if I get a bite . Btw I fish spavin lake Sunbury . Can you please make a video on knowing when you have a bite

Apocalypse Hey buddy, it's really hard for.me to tell you what you're doing wrong unless I am fishing with you. From what you have said, it sounds like you're doing it all right. Thus time of the year can be very hard to catch redfin.

when its hot , do they not swim upstream to colder water in the tributaries???

Great video Robbie, I was just wondering if the lakes that get stocked in Victoria for school holidays are open all year, because I couldn't find any info in the internet.
@robbiefishing
7 жыл бұрын
Thanks heaps mate. They sure are open all year, however many of them are too warm in the summer months and the trout are usually caught by them. Quite a few have golden perch which start biting when the trout slow down.

robbiefishing thanks mate!
Also on your third point you might find u are getting more fish in the shade as the can't detect ur leader or recognise or realise it's a lure.
Robbie what kind of power bait works for stocking trout?
@robbiefishing
5 жыл бұрын
Hi Antonio to be 100% sure I do not know sorry. Tackle stores in my area usually sell powerboat in jars so it may be a case of just choosing a colour and hoping for the best. LOL
Hi Robbie, can't believe I missed this video. What a putz!! Anyhoo. I'm primarily a boat fisher person( a bloke in this case) and I really enjoy flatline trolling and Leadline trolling. I have one tassie devil(a bit limp I know) but, thanks to your video I off to my local tackle store to expand my range. I'm pretty sure now, one pink one is not enough! I actually have it mounted on a leadline setup. Question(if I may), should I use the deeper diving version to help the leadline do it's job of getting the lure deeper down. Or will the Leadline max out the standard lure for depth? As usual another great video, many thanks. Peter
@robbiefishing
Жыл бұрын
Thanks Peter. (A bloke in this case). Haha I guess it would depend on how you are going on the day. If you're catching fish, don't change. If you're not catching fish then maybe try getting the Yassie down as deep as possible.
Robbie in lakes I prefer the two pronged approach. 1 rod with bat and one with lures.
@robbiefishing
7 жыл бұрын
Excellent advice Ritchard, that's exactly what I do when I am fishing for redfin.
Alright I love all your videos mate and I still like this one but tip no.2 about best to catch trout in low light and also no.3. I grew up in Tassie with some of the best trout fishing in the world, I can say IV always caught more trout at high noon then low light. Also one of the best winged lures would be the Tassie devil fredo frog. Best baits for me would be mudeyes, wood cockroaches (the pure black ones) worms and grasshoppers. No disrespect mate just my 2 cents. One last thing bright orange flesh = the best tasting trout
Love your videos Robbie, would U use a 7g blade in a river or is that to big??

Great video Robbie, roughly how deep do you fish at lake Jindabyne not in the winter and what do you look for on the sounder. Thanks
@robbiefishing

Hey mate I dont fish Jindabyne personally. If I did I would look for anything that showed up in them open. Not connected to the bottom or any structure. I would note the depth of the object and try and fish at that depth.

Tip 5 what's wrong with grasshoppers and crickets and pretty much all insects even a small mouse. Bro bro bro have you ever caught a 10+pounder trout in one of our lakes or rivers doubt it. FISH rivers spawn time and summer you know there deep so down rig trawl certain deep parts of lakes that hold yabbies.
@robbiefishing
5 жыл бұрын
Downriggers require boats....I don't have 1. This is Australia, our trout fishing conditions are marginal at best. Wild 10lb trout are only found in select places, mainly Tasmania. Not in my area. I have videos on this channel of my bait fishing for trout with worms and crickets and fly fishing with grasshopper patterns.
Personally, I wish he named more lakes
