4 best trout lures that every trout fisherman should own

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

The best trout lures that any fisherman can own are the ones that the angler can use properly and in the right circumstances.
In this video I am speaking about the 4 best types of trout lures, where they fit the best, their best applications and where they will be best suited.
There are literally hundreds, if not thousands of different trout lures on the marker today and purchasing a new one can be daunting for many anglers, particularly newcomers to the sport of fishing.
I do apologise for the poor sound quality at the end of this video. I have a technical glitch to irin out. I have 2 DSLR cameras that I film with and I think this one, my canon EOS 70D is on the way out.
Anyhow, here is my video about what I consider to be the best types of trout lures on the market, I hope you like it.

    Howdy! Just wanted to let you know that I absolutely love your videos! I'm from Wisconsin in the US and just started fishing some of our excellent natural trout streams this year. I have learned a lot from your videos and they have been super helpful for a beginning trout fisherman. I currently fish a lot of inline spinners but after watching this I definitely want to try out some other lures. I really like how you speak from experience but also note that there are many other methods that work this is just what works for you. Very humble and not condescending in the slightest. Thank you so much for the great videos!

    I'm 75 and have also fished for 65+ years. When young and poor all I could afford was a red and white daredevil for 25 cents! Caught a lot of fish on that simple lure. Have caught fish in rivers and lakes with super dupers a great lure.

    I sometimes fish the artificial fly on a spinning rod using a technique we call the 'bubble n' flea'. Tie a bubble float to the very end of the line. From about two or three feet above this tie the flies to very short droppers. Cast the tackle out and let it float down in the current. You can even jiggle the flies around or make them dance on the surface if you want. Works great in fast moving trout streams. :D

    I've been doing that all spring/summer this year for bluegill and crappie. Slays em. I also like to Carolina rig streamers. Tie on the streamer using a loop knot. Put a tiny (I like Spro) swivel about 18 inches (45cm) above the streamer then use a 1/8oz bullet weight (depending on current and depth) above the swivel. You can leave the weight free sliding or peg it. Free sliding can impart more action sometimes but it's more or less if you forget to peg it. Then to mimic the stripping action of a fly rod, just twist at the waist using the rod to pull the streamer along for the desired stripping length then reel in the slack when you go to twist again. Or you could just use a steady retrieve. I've also started using tungsten bullet weights for this technique considering tungsten offers more density in a smaller profile. It just makes for a cleaner presentation, in my opinion. And on a spinning setup, even an ultra light, you can toss almost any size streamer pattern.

    loving your vids Robbie, just started small stream trout fishing in a small stream near where I live (North Wales) caught my 1st 2 brownies on small Acme thunderbolt spoon on very first outing, hooked and lost a few more . I have caught over 100 trout on small spoons 2-3 over the summer , I have only caught 2 on bladed spinners and a few more on plaastics and minnows , maybee its a confidence thing or that on pressurised streams I fish, I've yet to see anyone else chucking a spoon .

    In Canada apparently the spoon is the most commonly used and most successful. Overall, I think bladed spinner, spoon, and soft plastics are the way to go with trout in particular. I have a little bladed spinner than is green, has a red head, and it catches trout easily east of Bendemere. And then in the peel river I tend to use my own homemade spoon lure for catching Yellowbelly and Cod. I find lures that throw out reflections catch the most fish. I don't even waste my time much anymore with throwing on my diving lures and lipless crankbait lures, since they never really caught anything. I read a funny article that said a lot of lures are designed to catch fishermen, and not fish. I think there is sadly a little truth to it, I think a lure company has to keep selling their product, so they kind of have to partake in behaviour a bit similar to those infomercial people, where they always have to convince you some new feature the lure has is what you need. My natural Yabby lure never caught anything, until I wrapped bright orange tape around it's body, lol. I stopped buying lures mostly. I found the most important thing when fishing is a basic and effective lure, combined with a good spot, combined with making sure I am not too visible to the fish. Generally I find more still spots in the river, especially if there is shade, they nearly always have fish. I am at the point where each trip to the river, I nearly always catch a Yellowbelly. It's a shame I can't find a common Redfin spot however, I used to catch them as a kid, and they were super fun. It's good to have a change in the species caught. Plus you can keep as many Redfin as you want.

    every area is different and every body of water in that area is different. I have a lake where it has to be a solid pink rooster tail spinner, and another lake it has to be the frog coloured rooster tail. and then, one of the biggest trout I have caught was on a mepps black fury with the red dots. and for spoons, my favourite has become the little cleo spoons in watermelon for rainbow trout, yellow with red spots for bull trout, and the gold/orange caught me a beauty brown trout.

  • @robbiefishing

    @robbiefishing

    5 жыл бұрын

    Hey mate that should work well. Snap swivels work well too. I just prefer loop knots. Basically, the smaller the minnow the less water it displaces, meaning the more important it is to use a loop knot.

  • @greasycheesuz7097

    @greasycheesuz7097

    5 жыл бұрын

    @@robbiefishing Thanks, I understand the concept.. not a fan of snap swivels on the minnows as the clip is usually an irregular shape which can effect swim pattern. I use large baits for big game fish in saltwater with the split ring method as it's stronger than a loop knot but, am just getting into finesse fishing with my ultralight set up and was curious if the light weight of the minnow lures would be effected by the split ring? Do you think the split ring method would interfere with the lure action too much and think the loop is superior for this application or do you think there would be much variance?

    FLATFISH ... flatfish are fantastic lures for trout. Trolling a flatfish nice and slow works great. (Those Wild Bite(?) minnows sound very similar). I've been catching browns and rainbows on my silver, gold and orange flatfish here in Maine (and they work great for bass, too) - esp. the "bleeding frog" colored ones.

    Rapala floating, Blue Fox Super Vibrax/ Rooster tail (black and brown are generally your best bet), plastics combined with 1/8th and 1/16th ounce Jig heads (1" or 2" bodies, curly tail grubs work best in my experience), and flies are the door he listed. I concur, other then the flies but only because fly fishing is a whole other world/expense. You can fish flies without actually getting all the fly fishing gear but not all that effectively, so why bother?

    Good information Robbie, but with more and more anglers using these soft plastic lures, what happens to the pieces of the plastic that are torn off the lure? Are our waterways being polluted with just another type of plastic?? There is a concerted effort around the world to rid our waterways of plastic pollution and here are you and your fellow angling gurus, advocating the continued use of plastic!! 🤷‍♂️ I’m 69 yo and have been a keen angler since catching my first fish at the age of four and a half. I have two of these ‘paddle tail’ soft plastic lures in my kit, both of them found by the water and I’m reluctant to use them. I don’t knows what would happen to a fish if it should bite off and swallow a piece of one. Cheer Tony.

    When I do my trout fishing I only use the best baits there is & out fishes every other bait there is today on the market. YES I am talking about none other than Berkley powerbait & Berkley gulp alive. These two baits by Berkley is 97% more effective + I do catch 98% more trout with Berkley powerbait & Berkley gulp alive. Ever since that they came out with these two baits I will not use nothing else. I have more success with these two baits than anything else at all when it comes to trout fishing. With me it's Berkley an gulp alive or it's nothing.
