I was hoping this had more tips on how to better operate a zoom call. I led my first zoom call last week, and it was kind of disaster, despite having an agenda and goal. I couldn’t see everyone. Maybe I should have muted everyone who wasn’t talking? But it was kids, and some kids were raising their hands to speak and I couldn’t see them! And one kid had poor internet, so she would try to speak and we couldn’t hear her. What do you do when someone’s signal isn’t good? I’m going to look for a different video.

Thanks for watching - I have a Zoom Tech video coming next week, and a video for teachers too. I would definitely advise having everyone on mute. You can then ask pupils to un-mute if they have a question, or you can un-mute them. These video platforms are a sound based technology - so noise (especially background noise) can become a real issue. Muting the class at the start will give you more control. You can then offer the opportunity to ask questions once you'd been through the content / set the tasks. Children can simple raise their hands, or use the chat function. I'm afraid if the children have a bad internet connection, there is nothing you can do. If you can only see some of them on your screen, ask them all to have their cameras on. They can opt to have their camera off, in which case you wouldn't be able to see them. I'd recommend recording your Zoom classes, that way you can send them to the children who have bad internet. Hope that helps.
