Bridget, thank you so much for your helpful and encouraging videos! I had my first baby in April and it was exactly what I wanted for my birth. I went to the hospital at 2 pm and was 5 cm dilated. Went from a 5 to a 7 in 2 hours and continued to progress well. My water broke at 8.5 cm and my baby was born a hour and a half later. I was only at the hospital 7 hours before having him. I used your breathing techniques and was able to go natural- no epidural! It's definitely doable with the right preparation! To anyone reading this: you do not need to fear birth! Your body knows what to do and if you work with it, you'll find it's much more manageable. So don't listen to people who try to discourage you or tell you how horrible everything is. Your birth story will be yours only and it will be exactly how it's supposed to be for you and your baby.

I binged watched your videos, and other natural labor videos before I went into labor and it’s the best thing I’ve ever done! I don’t think most women are informed on the steps of labor and how to cope with the pain. I was 4cm dilated for 2 weeks and was not progressing so my doctor induced me at 40 weeks. After breaking my water and waking around the hospital for 2 hours, and no contractions or progress, they started me on low dose pictocin and I stayed active by walking through my contractions. Once the pain got stronger, I used the breathing techniques and had my husband massaging my lower back. And my nurses were walking me through each contraction, letting me know when I was going to hit my peak and when my peak was over. After 4 hours of labor, I gave birth naturally with no pain meds! Did I feel like a train hit me 48 hours after I gave birth? Yes, yes I did. But I’m sure my labor was so much quicker because I didn’t have an epidural.

Halfway through my pregnancy with my fourth (all girls). This will be my first natural birth, at home and I'm so excited. My husband is a bundle of nerves but slowly easing into it. I have a wonderful midwife and I want my girls to be there to witness the birth of their sister. Due to covid there's a good chance that come my November due date they wouldn't be allowed in the hospital and that would devastate me (and all of them). I've always wanted to do it but the timing had never been right, everything has finally aligned in my favor and I couldn't be happier.

My mother-in-law died of cancer a few months ago and I feel like a link was cut since I wasn't able to get to know her as much as I'd like. I found out I was pregnant a month ago and I am currently 13 weeks. She was a tiny lady who managed to fight a generalized infection only really succumbing to the disease a month later. She had an unmedicated birth when my husband was born. She was very strong, you see! I'd like to honor her and her gift to me by going through the same as her when I bring her grandchild into this world. I hope I can make her proud.

Had a natural, unmedicated birth, such an empowering experience. I think what helped me was giving birth with a midwife at a birthing center where epidurals were not an option. I think I would have caved and gotten an epidural if I had the option but since I didn't. Nothing wrong with wanting an epidural but I knew I didn't want one but also knew I'd probably get one if I birthed where they were available haha

As someone with lower back issues that have mildly frayed my spinal cord im very nervous that i will be denied an epidural & that i wont have that "way out" if i feel like labor is too much. I'm doing my best to reduce that anxiety by prepping myself for a natural birth even though my main why is that i may not have an option otherwise. I have never liked needles (doesn't stop me from getting tattoos though) and unless I need a C-SECTION, I don't want someone to put a needle into my spine. I have a rare medical condition that resulted in me having either a completely natural birth or an ICU birth with a C-Section. I don’t have the option of an epidural and don’t do well under anesthesia. Right now, the absolute goal is a completely natural unmedicated birth. My birth team is ready for either. Everyday, I speak my perfect delivery into existence. I affirm my easy labor, perfect delivery, manageable discomfort (not pain) etc. I visualize a relaxed birth with minimal noise and a dim relaxed environment. I’m very lucky that my MFM is dedicated to helping me ensure my desired birth. I have given my mother and partner detailed instructions on what I want done should I have an ICU birth- things like I want that baby still laid skin to skin on me, I want my mom to pump me, I want them to latch the baby so she can feed, etc, it’s so important for her development and to help me to come out of my own situation. I want them to talk to me and rest my hands on her- lots of things that may look/sound crazy, but that I find to be overwhelmingly important. I wish everybody on here the delivery of their dreams! 💜

Lana A I had my little girl on 7/25 @5:22pm. I labored for 17 hours. My delivery was very passive- I barely pushed to deliver her shoulders (no harder than passing a BM) I did 3 sets of 3-10 second pushes. From the time my doctor walked in and said we are having a baby until she was born was 12 minutes. That includes turning the room from labor to delivery and pushing. I delivered my placenta 6 minutes after baby. Little girl was a perfect 6lbs 6oz and 19 inches long. I did become preeclamptic, aside from that- I had no other complications. She’s been absolutely perfect since! She is also already sleeping the night which is great since I work very early in the morning (it’s 0415 am right now and I’ve already been up and pumped for the past 45minutes)! Thank you so much for asking! I hope everybody’s L&D goes perfectly for them- regardless- a born, healthy baby is always the goal- even if your delivery takes an unexpected turn. Best wishes to everyone!

Lana A I breathed through each contraction. If you’re having a hospital birth remember people are going to talk to you even when you’re having a contraction. That’s the worst because it breaks focus. I was assertive with “please let be finish my contraction, then talk to me.” People were pretty respectful after being reminded. When someone was talking to me and a contraction started- I’d warn them, they usually paused- when my contraction was complete- they’d begin again. If you’re able to get an epidural- absolutely consider it, whatever makes you more comfortable. My delivery was very passive- I spent a lot of time inwardly focusing and breathing and mindfully reminding myself what was happening and why. That helped me- I don’t know if it will help you. I did vocalize, softly as my contractions began to increase in intensity. I’d moan while exhaling and found it helpful to help others know where I was in a contraction. Honestly, my biggest issue was maintaining autonomy through the whole process. Nurses and doctors are so quick to just do stuff while explaining- instead of waiting the extra five seconds until you’re ready. I worked in a hospital in the lab and many times I was dealing with patients with time sensitive issues that required me to be hands on- if I was told to wait I always did until the patient was ready- especially when it was as simple as finishing a contraction. Communication was key- me expressing I was not okay with something until I finished my contraction- made it clear to them to slow down. As contractions increased in frequency I’d do my best to accommodate them- sometimes they may not be able to wait such as an emergency- but for the most part if everything is okay- there should be a need for them to force anything on you. I command respect and autonomy and was not shy about no you’re not doing that until I’m ready etc. Do not be shy either- this is YOUR body. If you’re having a home birth you midwife will automatically be much more respectful and receptive to your autonomy. I also went into my delivery completely confident (probably overly confident) and with the mindset that everything would be fine, I breathed with confidence and spoke with intent. Even as things progressed I kept verbally affirming everything was fine and honestly- I felt like my mindset was why my labor went so smoothly. I honestly was expecting to have to walk and walk and walk and walk until my little one was ready. I was ready for DAYS of laboring, I brought my ball etc and ended up not needing any of it. Because I got preeclamptic after 8 hours of labor- they gave me magnesium which put me on bed rest with a catheter for the rest of labor, delivery and then 24 hours after I had the baby. It was a small bump in the road compared to what I could have been facing, I still consider my labor and delivery to have been relatively uneventful- until the main event. My doctor was so happy to be able to deliver her as planned. Sometimes it doesn’t always happen that way, which is unfortunate. I believe my self blessed and fortunate that I did not need all of the interventions that I could have needed. I wish you so much luck! I know you can do this and I believe in you! 💜

So, I have PTSD from my 3rd pregnancy’s epidural, this is my 4th pregnancy, I plan on using IV drugs, but I do know that I will need to prepare for not being completely insanely numb from the waist down. I have only been induced with pitocin for every single pregnancy and I know pitocin makes contractions more painful, however I used the epidural with all 3, and the 3rd time is when it went super bad. Excruciatingly bad. I felt the needle/catheter in my back the whole time and when I begged for the specialist that put it in to take it out, he didn’t. (Yes I have a lawsuit against that specific anesthesiologist.) So. Of course I’m freaking scared of pain because I stubbed my toe once and sobbed. I have only had vaginal births, and I only tore UP once, with my second, and the 3rd, even though it failed I only felt the burning and the pressure from my daughter coming out, and not all the contractions towards the end of labor. So this is my WHY. This is why I’m here. Pray for meeeeeee 😂

Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge and experience it's been such a blessing to me. I'm 38 and 6 days. So ready to have my baby girl. My OB is concerned because baby is measuring big. Her belly is big as well which she said possibly could cause shoulder displacisa. I'm not to concerned because I've heard stories of so many women having big babies vaginally. I have a healthy pregnancy with no complications. I'm attempting a VBAC I really don't want a repeat c section. I'd love to do a home birth but it's not possible. Any advice or encouraging words for attempting a VBAC in spite of baby measuring big.

It's wrong to call some births "natural" vs unnatural. Just because you use medications to help with pain does not make your birth unnatural!! Stop with the shame! Also why do people think it's worst to use some medication vs others? I've heard people say they've had a "natural birth" when they just didn't get an epidural but they used nitrous or opioids. How is using certain medications still "natural" while using others are not? Makes absolutely no sense at all. There's no gold star for suffering more and not using meds. Know all the pros and cons but have an open mind and know your options. If you need to use meds it's fine. As long as your baby is healthy that's all that should matter.
