I just want to add that you should know all of the ranks (Enlisted and Officer) for every branch, know your general orders, sailors creed, phonetic alphabet, etc. I joined the navy in 2005 and am currently a first class (MR1) in the reserves.

And I quote: "Please get back to me on this rate *and what it's like* I have *had trouble finding things out about this rate* ." That certainly doesn't sound like you already knew a lot about it. Now does it? All I did was ask a legitimate question. You're the guy who signed the contract, without knowing everything you should have known, beforehand. You sounded kinda desperate, too. Suppose the guy you were asking gave you news that would have changed your mind about it, then realizing you regretted your decision? Are you always that pissy around people who question you? And you joined the service, were you can expect that EVERY DAY. Get MY house in order? Get your attitude under control, or you're in for a bumpy ride.

In no particular order 1.maintain proper Military bearing at all times 2.know what PO,Chiefs,CS look like 3.Sound Off! If you don’t want to be there don’t ship 4. Be in shape...RDCs have to pick on someone it’s going to be those individuals who can’t adjust ie: struggling to fold and stow or consistently struggling with intensive training 5. Be MOTIVATED! Towards the end of boot camp (this was in 1988 in Orlando), we came up with a "Man overboard" idea. If one of the guys fouled up and got dropped while we were in formation, I would yell "MAN OVERBOARD!!" Then we would right face 45 degrees and all drop to push up position. It was a beautiful thing! First time we did it our CC (we called them Company Commanders back then) about had a heart attack. He was trying to act all mad but you could tell he was bursting with pride.

I'd say that would be impressive, AFTER boot camp. While you're in boot camp, I never heard of anyone else doing anything that they were NOT told to do. The company commanders didn't have a problem with that? Never heard of an entire company loving Intense Training or MASHING. (That's what we called it back then.) They used to have ambulances standing by, cuz those punishment workouts were brutal. I was in a couple. The cherry on that cake was marching back to the barracks, soaked with sweat, in freezing weather.

Never heard the word "drop" so many times, in an eight-week span. The group of guys I was with... they were ALL characters. Each one had their unique way of trying to do as little as humanly possible. Half the company was just your every-day, lazy, back-stabbing jerkoffs. They all acted like they were all that. I was only 18, but I knew what I was dealing with. Honestly... I don't know how they managed to graduate. Seriously... looking back, I can still say that I'm amazed they made it to the fleet.

I was in boot camp at NTC San Diego in 1979. I entered boot at 6'0" 150 lbs, and graduated weighing 165 lbs. When they gave me back my civvies it took considerable effort to pull on my Levis. I gained muscle mass. But you're right, a lot of guys who were somewhat pudgy either dropped or graduated a much thinner version of themselves.

Also for anyone who sees this and is going to boot camp soon, they will tell you not to make friends, but MAKE FRIENDS! This will save your life. Don’t sit with each other all the time and don’t talk a bunch, but make friends with the people near your rack, and talk about what’s going on at taps. You’re all on a very basic level going through the same thing, it will help you get through it.

"Imagine waking up and right away working out and then having a massive breakfast all you can eat after." Bootcamp was really easy for me actually. I have a really good memory so I learned everything the instant I read it, and my rdc's knew I was an animal when it came to working out, so IT had a counter effect. They could only punish me by putting me in isolation. AKA ships mail petty officer. good times One time when I was standing compartment watch one of my rdc's came into the compartment and was like "I'm not going to waste my time asking you anything because I know you know the answer." "Yes petty officer! Thank you petty officer!" EDIT: I was a nuke though so every other aspect of the navy was absolute hell after bootcamp. I should have prefaced with that part first. Bootcamp just SEEMED easy for me. My division had people tap because they couldn't handle it for whatever reasons they had. Totally acceptable; bootcamp will be hard for some people and easy for others, just like how being a nuke seemed easy for a lot of people but was very difficult for me. Thought it would be a good idea to point this part out.

Funny story about the razor. That's just a guy on a power trip expecting to climb to the top at the expense of others. Seen em before.. Cool video out of multiple so far. Subscribed as of now! Quick ? though, specifically about PT. I'm considering joining the Air Force branch hoping for sts. I just turned 29, I'm in decent shape. Basic ruck marching and calisthenics are not a problem, I can sprint pretty quick for an old guy but I suck at running long distances.... I can do it, i just get gassed pretty quick.. Do you have any advice on how to not feel like I'm dying other than just the usual keep at it?? I'll take that too, but anything you got like circuits, sprints or it's a waste of time is what I'm looking for. Same for anyone else that might be reading this and have something. I'm eager to hear it. Basically I just wanna know if I need to do something different. Would-Be Troll disclosure: yes I know I suck at life and will probably run myself over with my own truck before ever making it to meps. We know, we know. Just getting that out of the way.. lol Again cool vid bud. Thanks.

Even not joining is no guarantee of not getting dropped and/or smoked. A major war, WWII-scale or larger can break out any time. The Draft could be reinstated to fight said war at any time. Not likely but could happen. Then you get inducted into the military, you meet your Drill Sergeant/RDC/Drill Instructors/MTI and again, you get dropped and/or smoked. It's inevitable. Even death is no guarantee. The aforementioned Drill Sergeant/RDC/Drill Instructors/MTIs will simply perform their E4-E9 (Navy NCO grades start at E4, Petty Officer 3rd class; Air Force NCO Grades start at E5, Staff Sergeant) demonic rituals to bring you back to life and you guessed it, you're going to be dropped and/or smoked

Looking out for people, IF YOU KNOW THEY WILL APPRECIATE IT, is ok. But for those who walk around with a black cloud over their heads... DON'T DO IT. Let them learn the hard way. NO company will EVER have their act together, ON A DAILY BASIS... someone will always get the company in trouble. It's inevitable. JUST EXPECT TO BE ON THAT FLOOR, DOGGIN IT OUT. EXPECT THE WORST, AND YOU'LL NEVER BE DISAPPOINTED. You'll always have that handful of degenerates that ruin it for the rest of the group. The LAST thing you want is to have anyone thinking you're a kiss-ass do-gooder. That will piss someone off to the point of them getting in your face, and eventually sabotaging your shit, probably stealing from you. TRUST ME. IT WILL HAPPEN. RTC Great Lakes, Company 310, 1982.
