Don't worry I am not against gentrification - that's just how it goes for every popular city. So everyone is welcome :)
I lived in Berlin for over 10 years. After I quit drinking 2.5 years ago, I realized its not for me anymore. I moved to the coutryside now.

I moved from Berlin to Cologne, I couldn’t take it anymore😂
At 1:06 you note that 25% of Berliners have a migration background. Actually, the share of people with a migration background in Berlin is currently at 35%, but that is still less than in many West German cities. In Munich, for example, as many as 43% of its residents have a migration background. In my opinion, many people think of Berlin as a very multicultural city because they think of neighborhoods like Kreuzberg or Neukölln where migrants have gathered. But then there are also many outer districts where there are only a few people with a migration background. For example, I grew up in Rahnsdorf, and the percentage of people with a migration background there is almost zero.
The last reason hits me in the right time. I also feel stuck (I live in Santiago de Chile) and I am not feeling any development except my major because I am studying. Thanks to that I will check the vibes of the city/countries I would like to migrate after graduation.

I feel you. When you leave and come back it still feels the same, even though you developed so much! Always good to get a different perspective in ❤️.
I wouldn't call Berlin an extremely dirty city. It's all really depending on the area. Sure it's not a generally clean city. But I've seen much worse, New York for example. After visiting NYC, Berlin felt kinda clean to me

Berlin is very dirty. You cannot compare it to the 90's. Also the area doesn't really matter today.
Hello Andy I love your channel, is Rehfelde a good zone to live in a quiet and nice area with good transport to the city? We like suburbs and I want your opinion. We are a quiet couple that enjoys culture and nature so we are looking for a place that allow us to go to the city whenever we want and live in a quiet and nice area
Such a great video! Great attention holding edit! I'm actually more intrigued by Berlin now, despite the name of the video. Go Team 11!

Great vid, Andy. Had to laugh a little at, "be young; have fun" There used to be a Pepsi ad campaign (in America, at least) with the tag line: Be young, have fun, drink pepsi" Alas, the days of being young are over for me. You still have lots of youth to enjoy. All The Best

The worst thing about Berlin is that people are very unfriendly and you see only beggars on the streets.
Hi Andy, I'm hoping you can help me. My family may be moving to Berlin soon, and we have young children (under 5 yo), what is a good place to live where you aren't super car dependent? Note: I do speak German, so we don't need to live somewhere super multinational. Love your videos, they are very helpful.

Pro tip: If you like the architecture, a lot of young people and a lot of activities but you don't want to live in a huge city that is slow, mismanaged, dirty and taken over by "Omg this is so Berlin" people, move to Leipzig instead.
I feel you with all 5 points! I'm sooo close to moving out. But Berlin is also just my comfort zone with friends and job and girlfriend😅

I feel you! We live in the NRW and it's fine but I can't wait to move to HH to still be Germany based with a little more freedom though! Also I love Berlin for a weekend trip but that's a thing i've always said,like Paris (my hometown) I would not like living in Berlin. Deeping in and out is fun and refreshing at times, bonus points if you have family there. But as far as real life quality,one can find that elsewhere for half the price!

Yeah, it’s because the brits ( i am one) are so repressed ;) berlin is like total freedom to them! Its great but after a certain amount of time you realise berlin is like a sexy shithole, with constant parties, boozing, drugs, late nights.. its easy to really fuck yourself up here!

I live in Berlin for 2 years now, its just meeh. and im german but mixed (half chinese). I have mixed feelings about berlin too. some good parts, but yeah its also our capital so it BETTER have something to offer. overall im disapointed with how dirty it is, and how people embrace “dirty as cool”. its just low class especially given that berlin used to be a world class capital 1920. kinda a shame. i also dont dig the vibes too much, and dont feel really at home too. havent made great lasting friends here.
Vietnamese here in Berlin are running restaurants ( which is good ) and same time, doing crimes ( e.g., not paying money for the work and taking advantages ). Sorry to say but it really makes me feel bad when I meet vietnamese here ( especially with names like.. Dyu..)
Oh i get you soooo much....like Berlin is too Loud, too many people, too many english speaking jobs, too much diversity...........if you are family orientated and love your own solitude, Berlin is not ur home

I get annoyed every time someone says: Berlin is so dirty. Where are you staying? But not in Charlottenburg or Wannsee. Maybe it's so dirty because you guys throw everything around? Those born here love our city and are clean. We expect the same from those who have moved here. But this is not the case.

this is the german excuse every time... but you know what? this people that you are talking about are coming from normal places, clean cityes with nice people. So no, they are not starting to throw garbage on the street sudently. It is your problem, your city, your goverment. Visit the places from where this people are came from and than start acusing them for the dirtyness in you ugly city

Hi Andy, I absolutely agree with you on all points. I would also add this. Almost everyone says that in Berlin you can dress however you want and express yourself however you want. This is absolutely not true. Yes, if you look weird, unkept, unkempt, like a bum - no one will pay attention to you. However, if you are dressed elegantly, people will look at you and you really stand out.
Thank you Andy. I now will not be moving to Berlin

Anyway that is your idea, but Berlin is better than Toronto Canada.
@AndyJamerson

possibly, I've never been
Had to live there for a few months and absolutely hated it. Berlin has a bad reputation in the rest of germany (for many people at least) and I was absolutely aware of the fact, that it won't be my type. But on my first bicycle tour i saw multiple burned out vehicles, absolutely dirty neighborhoods (things like destroyed cars, fridges and garbage everywhere) and just plain stupid and ugly city design. My apartment building was completely littered on times, someone pissed in the fucking elevator once. On the day of departure someone puked in the elevator aswell, making the experience of moving my stuff even more shitty. Hated every second of it and made me depressed. I even got into an accident with a car (I was on my bike) and the other person fled the scene (spend a few days in hospital, my bike is damaged). It is an embarrassment of a capital city.

Berlin is not fun. The nightlife sucks. It’s only dark techno and if you don’t fit with that they will reject your ass in any club.

The main argument against living in Berlin is the far-left green-socialist government. Berlin also has the highest crime rates in Germany, the most rats and besides all the trash that you mentioned almost every building is graffiti sprayed or vandalized. And Berlin has the worst government services with the longest waiting times for almost any government related issue. On top of all that, people in Berlin are the least friendly people even within Germany - especially the bus drivers.
@AndyJamerson

True 🥲
@americanteen97
Жыл бұрын
The far left green socialist government is the best part! That’s why there’s strong worker protections, great transit, clean air, etc. And the graffiti is so cool and the street art is why it’s the street art capital of the world
Dude you are boring and that is why you dislike the city 😂
I have been living in Berlin for ten years. This is a paradise for homosexuals, drug addicts, alkies, hippies and beggars.😢
