I moved to Düsseldorf last June from London intentionally wanting a smaller city. Fortunately Düsseldorf has a lot of things to offer but I definitely see the interest of living in Berlin. I struggle with the language a lot and Berlin seems like such a relaxed place to speak English which is a huge disadvantage in Düsseldorf

How lovely that you like in Berlin! I'm going to move back (it's actually my home town) this year after almost 20 years abroad, for some personal reasons. I guess, finding a flat will be hard, and there are certain parts of the local culture, which I will find hard to re-adapt to, but as long as wonderful people like you choose the city as their place to live, I guess, it won't be that bad.

Berlin is the most beautiful, largest German city, that is also a city state and also the most favourable city for internationals, with an English only church,All Saints Church(church also has lower schools taught in English language).Berlin is the Best destination city for English speakers.Virtually, everyone speaks the English language in Berlin. Also, the best destination for tourists.

I’ve heard that Amsterdam has very high rates of English-speaking commonly spoken around the city, as well as Austria, especially Vienna having a high percentage of English-speaking and other cities, including in Switzerland, Stockholm, etc. So I wouldn’t say that it’s the best of the best I say it’s up there though

I don't think you can blame a place or a country for how quickly you meet people or how you feel. I think it's more a matter of energy and attitude. You have to be creative and open to life's fates. If you have a strong energy, people will feel it no matter where you are. For example i live in Freiburg Baden-Württemberg, it isn't a big city but almost everybody is speaking english and is open minded. But i'm also a very open person, so i guess it's a matter of attraction😊✨🕉

On other hand, i guess people me included have to high expectations on how it will be. Sorry for being so honest😅

The open mind of most people and the fact that the majority simply agrees on minding their own business is actually the reason why i could, as if right now, not imagine another city to live in. All the nagatives Berlin has didn't affect my life that much so i am not really bothered by it. but to be fair, i have been living in my appartment for 11 years and also noticed how the rents around me jumped up continously. In comparison to other major German cities Berlin is no longer cheap, but relatively affortable if you can effort to keep an eye on the offerings over a period of time, you don't need to move spontaously and you are not as picky when it comes to the district. But yea, I always feel sad whenever i go back to a point about 10 years ago and see how much Berlin used to be ahead back then. But ey, I am happy to hear you found your place in one of the countless communities and wish you the absolute best. :)

Hello Nsuku, one opportunity to meet people is going to church, contacting a church community, protestant or catholic or another. People there are usually helpfull and really want to help. Visiting courses in your local public university, the "Volkshochschule", is another way to meet people. This approach has the advantage that it's easier to connect to people due to your common interests. Despite living in a small town I can visit an african shop, a combination of an african boutique and a cafe offering some african dishes around noon. Maybe something similar is around your place.
