Yep, Mines at 220k and runs like a dream. Just got my oil pump replaced and I refreshed most of the suspension

Yup. Totally agree. Sold my 88 a few months ago. Would have kept it forever except for the rust. Picked up a 99 before I sold the 88. Paid 2500 for the 99 with 240k miles. Single owner immaculate condition. Great compression. No rust. Its my forever rig.

I just bought a 2000 Suburban ¾ ton 4X4 w/ Rear Barn Doors…approx 174,000 miles for $3000. It needs a some cosmetic work but most is gonna be removed anyway (Interior), I'm in heaven to say the least…I used to own one of the "Square body model (1987 I think) and have kicked myself for ever selling it. I'm approaching Level "70" later this year, so this one will be my last, to be sure. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ "Ol' Scooter" checkin' in from East Texas, Y'all!

I used to have a ‘89 Suburban. Loved it. Bought a ‘01 that I still own. Showing rust from road salt but I still use it on the beach. Looking to do some work on it, to keep it around.

They are a hidden gem in the off-road world

Well, not really hidden. The suburban is the longest produced name badge in automotive history ever. People just sleep on them. People either think of them as mom rigs or just oversized/underpowered for their application.

-- Surburban is a little long for me. Like the Tahoe for overland. Not blasting your choice. Just preference. I like a shorter wheelbase. You can throw a lot of gear on the tops of both so... Thumbs up. You're not wrong, I just want a little smaller.

Rock on man! I’ve got an 04 that I picked up for three grand with just under 200,000 miles on it. It’s a 1500 with the Z 71 package totally loaded with extras. What a beast! Best vehicle I’ve ever owned. I use it for work in handyman business and recreational towing. I am looking for a second one at this point. Anyone out there looking to let one go post to reply here!

That's a great price. I have a 2005 that I bought from Suboverland in Idaho. They lift it and put new 10-ply tires on it and do all the standard maintenance. They offer built-out rigs but I wanted to customize mine completely so I went with the base package. I love that thing!

It is a solid platform. I used to own one and it was a towing monster and very cable off road.

Low miles high miles it’s doesn’t matter they all good truck and you can put a lot of miles on all those truck and it won’t miss a beat

Got an 07 3/4 ton with the 6.0L. 170 000miles and still tows the race car with the kids and camping equipment no problem.

Have you experienced any pinging with the 6.0 at such a high mileage, mine is starting to ping under load

Love my 8th gen 1998 454 2500 suburban! Tows 3 horses great, live in the sticks, gravel roads but that's all off road it gets. I get about 7mpg

About the same mpg as my former Excursion 4x4 V10. Except, you can find cheap hard parts all day long for a 454. Once that V10 takes a dump, youre looking in junk yards and craigslist for spare parts. The 454? Summit, Jegs, the local Oriellys.... great platform!

Yep. The size of these things make them truly a sport UTILITY vehicle. Even with the 3rd row in they still provide a lot of trunk space unlike other 3 row SUVs that sacrifice trunk space for the 3rd row. And the 3rd row in, even though still kind of tight is still better than most others for legroom.

I got my GMC Yukon XL SLT 5.3 4x4 with many many many many miles 250k Miles, in mint condition 1 owner lady got it when the SUV had 13 miles and just got rid of it. She took care of it but I only paid $3000 for it out the door with registration. I have looked for a replacement engine and its very very inexpensive. I've had it for only 3 months an drive it daily and the gas expense is more on my toyota camry. Love the SUV and looking forward to lifting it, changing tires and a few other upgrades. The 4 wheel drive is awsome. I was already offered 6k for it and turned it down. Great vehicle.

Since I live in California, it is really hard to find some Suburban's that are 4WD and it is also just as hard if not harder to find a Z71 because in California, nobody really needs a 4WD because California doesn't really get any snow and also, Fuel Economy is slightly worse than the 2WD

I have two Suburbans right now and love them both. I have a 1996 GMC 2500 4x4 Suburban with the 7.4L 454 and the 4l80e trans with 118k on it, then I have a 2004 1500 4x4 Suburban with the 5.3L and the 4l60e trans with 206k on it and both of them drive flawlessly because I always do preventative maintenance on them and maintain fluids and filters on normal intervals. I think the Suburban is one of the best all round family vehicle out there made by GM. One thing I wish GM would have done was made it an option to put the duramax engine in the 2000 years and up 2500 Suburbans, those Suburbans would be really sought out for.

I have a 1995 K1500 Suburban (original owner) with the 5.7L V8 and I don't get anywhere near 15 mpg combined driving. When I reach 300 miles on the trip meter, I start looking for the next station to fill up. But I love it...awesome, reliable vehicle. Planning a long road trip to AZ and CA in a few weeks. Any recommendations for a roof rack?

I have a '99 which has the Vortec heads and I got 15 MPG highway after upgrading the spider injectors but it went back down to 14 after installing a severe duty fan clutch for long idling.

I consider the Ford F350 crew 4x4 long beds the second large vehicle for survival. As far as size goes.

As for the gas mileage, i have an 02 with the 33 gallon tank and the 5.3 v8. Ive done a Banks intake, magnaflow exhaust, and putting on a set of shorty headers, im getting roughly 18-21 mpg highway. Honestly not too bad for a full size SUV thats 2 decades old

Between the 8th gen and the 9th gen, which would you pick for towing a 3000 pound dry weight travel trailer over non paved roads? Not serious off-roading, but just not paved. Thanks.

Both generations can easily pull a 3000lb trailer, but I would give the edge to the 9th gens since they have a little more power and higher tow ratings.

The Government Trunk Monkeys & Window Lickers love these vehicles. They get up-armored & can haul 5 personel around that are armed to the teeth ( The Cat Teams) without breaking a sweat. They’re excellent for that type of Government Work & are well versed in the private sector for Personal Protection Details all over the world .

You didnt mention the 2500 suburbans that came with a 6.5 diesel. I have a 1999 with the 6.5 diesel. Not a big fan of the 6.5 but they can be made better with after market parts.

The small block Chevy was introduced in the 1955 model year, not 1954.

I made the mistake last month telling everyone how reliable they are and didn't knock on wood...Been working on mine for a month straight but I'm totally fine with it because that engine starts every time and ride like a cadilac.

All cars break down, some more than others. When you do get it running right and with proper maintenance, it should last a very long time.

As far as parts go Isn't the 8.1 scarce? Like only one or two companies focus on 8.1 engine parts?

I'm experiencing a few issues recently with the 8.1. Radiator replacement was a challenge finding one last summer.

In what world are you finding any 4x4 with less than 130,000 miles for under 5000?

200,000 miles is nothing let me know when it hits 300,000 then I’ll be impressed
