I realised it has nothing to do with the actors ,it has all to do with directors vision, if ram Charan was in this movie it would have done nothing much difference cuz the vision itself is like that

In my opinion, VFX is a secondary issue here. The primary concern lies with the creative liberties taken by the makers and their lack of a clear vision regarding what they wanted to create and how to conceive it. Despite having all the success and resources at his disposal, SS Rajamouli believes that he is neither mentally nor technically ready to start Mahabharat yet. One should understand and respect these epics first, and it seems like the makers of Adipurush have not given much thought or respect here.

To be honest, I already understood that when the movie "Tanhaji" was released, director Om Raut simply aimed to capitalize on the sentiments of the audience. I mean, "Tanhaji" received a lot of criticism for distorting historical facts, but since only a few audience members were familiar with the actual history, it was accepted nationwide, except by the Maratha community. Similarly, Om Raut attempted the same tactic in "Adipurush," but this time the entire country was aware of the story, which is why it is facing significant criticism.

The respect I have for Ayan Mukherjee is increased....the kind of effort he put for Bhramastra, the way he handled all the criticism.. rather he was the one who didn't try to defend himself but did a conversation about what went wrong and what to avoid in next installments..❤️🙌

I strongly feel the general audiences (except few who went only for the love for Shri Ram and the story Ramayana) already rejected this trash on it's release day itself... the SO CALLED huge collections on it's opening weekend were absolutely due to the bulk bookings the makers had done initially and also instigated others like Ranbir kapoor to do the same.

There's no need to take big actors for Mahabharat or Ramayan. Take small theatre artists and make them big. Make a 10 season show which showcases each event in a detailed way. Take Game of Thrones for example, no actor in the first season was popular, by the end of the show, each actor had a huge fan base.

I was thinking about Mayabazar (1957).. It's probably etched in every Tamil/ Telugu cinema lover's memories for the sheer visual treat, quirky dialogues, and amazing acting by Ranga Rao sir, NTR and Savitri mam.. For many many years- we have seen absolutely brilliant mythological adaptations like Lava Kusa, Bhakta Prahlada, Sampurna Ramayanam, Karnan (with Sivaji Ganesan in Tamil), Dana Veere Sura Karna, Nartanasala, and many others... The reverence shown by makers and their vision in making these movies- in a day and age where they did not have the technological advantage we have now- have what made these movies stay relevant in people's minds all these years.. where I can feel the love for mythology, cinema and the drive to give the audience a superior visual experience from the makers of Mayabazar- all i can see is sheer emptiness, excuses, pride/ego and no love for anything - even from the teaser of Adipurush...

I mean this film did something really good. It made people realise just how great the original show made in the 80s and the anime movie were, their views have skyrocketed since on youtube so I'm happy people can cleanse their palette with those actual masterpieces

@@sanjaychauhan1116 Those movies were just stories, with almost no cultural significance, so they would not ignite as much fire. Adipurush on the other hand, was a direct attack on a cultural epic, which was part of our upbringing. Seeing such a vehement strike would inflame anyone.

The biggest irony is that instead of accepting their mistakes the creator and dialogue writer are giving absurd justifications i was watching an interview where Manoj muntashir was saying the tale has been depicted in similar tone by his grandmother (Justifying Hamunan ji's dialogue)and Hamunan ji was not a lord and OM raut saying those who say they understand Ramayana are fools or either lying and also saying he has only envisioned on screen from what little bit he has understood about ramanyan.This whole point of giving justification and not accepting the shortcomings is making people angry and rejecting Adipurush

I am sure his grandmother hadn't used derogatory words such as tere baap ki lanka laga dunga etc. There's no way a grandmother would teach their grandson these kinds of languages. Especially while talking about Gods. Imagine a collab between SLB, SS Rajamouli and Maniratnam for making Ramayana. I can just imagine how beautiful the sets would be, the aura and charisma that would translate onto the big screen!

Too many chefs spoil the dish

One underappreciated movie which was truly great in my opinion was the animated film Hanuman. They focused on one chatacter and did complete justice to it. The animation is beautiful for its time and the direction, the screenplay and the music complimented it very well.

@@aayushmangarg2744 No, I don't think we are showing our historical (not mythological) characters as machos. In Ramanand Sagar's Ramayana, the animated Ramayana or every Ramayana I see, I see Sri Rama break down as Seeta is taken away from him or when he gets to know that his father is no more and so on. Sri Rama was a sensitive person and yet strong and I think that is shown almost in every depiction of the Ramayana.

Plus the world works in a certain way - like one can observe Prabhas getting way less flak than om raut and Manoj(which is correct too I guess) but they same have not been true for Aamir - if you can make from past observations

An epic like Ramayana had to be handled carefully and ego set aside. Look how Mani Ratnam handled Ponniyin Selvan, a huge text with hundreds of years of history and culture behind it. He cut out large parts of it as much as he could without affecting the story telling and even then needed about 6 hours to tell his version. The best cast and crew from tamil film industry were scouted for the project. Took more than a decade for his vision to come onscreen. Result was amazing.

My respect for young directors like Lokesh Kanagaraj has increased after this. Direction comes with experience and only few can ace it in their youth.

And ofc Soham Shah (Tumbbad director) it was his first debut aa director and an actor in his own film. It took him 8 years of dedicated hard work for his vision to replicate it in the big screen for us. I always had the respect towards tumbbad and for the director and for the makers who supported him with his journey of filmmaking. Now it has doubled. 😊

If Doglapan and Lack of Sincerity had a face that is om Raut and the team of Adhipurush, Including Prabhas. you can't deny the fact that if prabhas would have said he is not satisfied with the project in initial stages only. the whole story might be changed.

Man... Prabhas was suffering from a leg surgery and was on steroids. Still he shot the movie due to his Ram Bhakti. Moreover, he didn't know about the vision of Om Raut as he shot the entire movie on green screen like Avatar. After the teaser you can clearly see how Prabhas was furious and called Om to his room.

7:11 Telugu film directors have a long history of adapting mythological stories. Two beautiful Ramayana examples of this are the films Sampoorna Ramayanam and Lava Kusa. These films are both challenging to find with subtitles, but they are well worth the effort. If you are interested in other mythological adaptations, you should definitely check out Mayabazar (1957). This film, as you know, is considered to be the greatest Indian films ever made, and it features an insane ensemble cast and crew. Literally everyone in TFI came together. Even masterpiece falls short to describe it. The visuals they pulled off in 1957 is still a mystery!

Famed Telugu director Bapu’s takes on the Ramayana are pretty great, especially his “Sampoorna Ramayanam” (1972). The entire story is shown clearly on screen with stunning visual effects.

4:52 Tanhaji Only worked because people boycott Chhapaak at that time because of Depika's Appearance at JNU and the reason for this was completely misunderstood.

I don’t if he’s active in the industry anymore after his controversy, but Ashutosh Gowariker is by far one of the best Indian directors for period dramas. He brought us Lagaan and Jodha Akbar before Sanjay Leela Bhansali did anything remotely historical. In fact, I believe that Ashutosh’s films were an inspiration to SLB. It’s a shame he’s not making the kind of films that he used to make so successfully because he truly was a visionary for Hindi cinema and I believe that he would’ve done more justice to the Ramayan than SLB or even Rajamouli. I’m an Indian American Christian, and even I find Adipurush to be a complete joke. Soon as I saw the first look of the film, I knew this would be a disappointing venture but I never imagined it would be of such epic proportions.

The vision of a director and his patience and perseverance towards that vision is what matters for projects like these.

I did the same. Went back to Ramanand Sagar's "Ramayan". Watched particular scenes and particular episodes just to cleanse palate.

My respect for Ayan Mukherjee and Brahmastra increased infinite times after Adipurush. At least Brahmastra mein VFX mein efforts thhe, they took ten freaking years to make that film and that showed when the film released and they also accepted their mistakes like the cringe love story and dialogues and told us they'll improve these things in part 2 and I for one have high hopes from Ayan Mukherjee. Adipurush makers are simply shameless. Religion ke naam pe ek movie ko bechna kitna galat hain😠😠Adipurush should be banned all over India aur mujhe toh yeh samajh nahi aa raha ki log Prabhas ko gaali kyun nahi de rahe. Sala kuch acting nahi kar sakte woh. Abhi toh Rajamouli sir bhi soch rahe honge ki maine kisko star bana diya yaar. Koi dhang ka expression nahi de sakta yeh sala single expression wala actor Prabhas. He charged freaking 150 crores for this movie!!!! Can you imagine???? Aisi wahiyat film ke liye woh 150 crores le raha hain!!!! Yehi agar SRK ya Salman ya koi aur hota toh kitna negativity spread hota lekin yaha ki public toh hypocrite hain. The character of Jesus Christ has also appeared in popular US animations such as "American Dad", which portrayed the Christ as less than divine. NONE OF THEM WERE BANNED!! No Christians rioted. There was some criticism and some didn't like it, but there was no banning. This is what is called freedom of expression and a free society. By saying this I'm not defending "Adipurush". I think the movie is garbage!! But I'll move past it and go on with my life. There was a book written by Salman Rushdie called "The Satanic Versus". It hurt the sentiments of a certain section of society. They rioted, burnt things and created violence. Then there was a book called "Lajja" written by Taslima Nasreen which caused similar mob protests. Then there was a satirical comic written by Charlie Hebdo in France, he was shot for depicting the Prophet Mohammed. Do you want the Indian society, and Hindu's in particular to become like these fundamentalists?

Even in India we have shows like the Return Of Hanuman where the Hindu gods and goddesses have been depicted as less divine but does that irk me? No absolutely not. The thing is, this movie completely disrespected our gods and goddesses. And yeah, I don't endorse things like the Charlie Hebdo killing or the sar tan se juda thing. You see, dialogues like Bharat ki beti, bhagwa jhanda, these are all the factors which contributed to this movie getting banned in Nepal. Does that mean Nepalese are intolerant or the Nepali society is like jihadis? No. There're some limits to everything and Adipurush crossed every limit

My respect for Ayan Mukherjee increased after watching Om Raut and Manoj's rants even after failing to deliver. Ayan was graceful and considerate about mistakes he made during bhramhastra he addressed it and vows to rectify certain things in Dev's story, most of indian people are good at heart all they expect a little humility.

People should understand why brahamastra took almost 7 years to make. If they properly tried it would atleast take 5 years and should be made in trilogy . Although Although I doubt how many directors are willing to take that risk

Did it needed to be 7 years long production? I didn't see anything special storywise & effects for that film. But applauds for the VFX 👏👏 Dialogues were weak, true

If they are going to make Mahabharatham, it shouldn't only be restrictive to bollywood, it should be a collective effort of all the talent every industries can offer (with directors like SLB, Maniratnam, Rajamouli and others 👑 in the forefront). They can make it a decade long series with no agenda, relegious propaganda, just celebration of Indian epics, culture & heritage. I am sure there will be mass audience abroad too to watch it! 🔥On a personal note, if they don't use overblown CGI and make use of traditional prosthetics & real sets to create the visuals 😍

I think you should remember that India's best live action Mahabharat was made by a Bollywood director and had a mostly Bollywood and Hindi speaking star cast. Although I dont have faith in any of the current lot to do justice to Mahabharat or Ramayan. And that extends across languages and industries.

The biggest and the bitterest lie is that Sita is from India. No, originally Sita was from NEPAL. Shame to the writer Manoj Muntashir and the Indian film industry. To promote their films they are showing lies to the audience. Nepal is a great country and none can change the great history of Nepal. Not even the 100 films like Adipurush.

Alternately, they can make an animated series that can last a decade or two. In this way, they can not only do justice to the story, but also circumvent the issues existing in real world, such as actors aging, their physique changing, older actors being unable to act anymore, etc. All you need is the voice of actors to work. That's the biggest problem with Indian cinema today -- why does an adaptation of Ramayana need a superstar? Why do we need a 500 cr budget and then create CARTOON graphics? Why do we need to cast Kriti Sanon in another film where she has a max of 3 scenes? Stakeholders care about EVERYTHING today except for the goddamn writing. And now, watching SPKK's marketing campaign (they're remaking Pasoori), I fear a similar lack of confidence by the makers in their material. If you want to shoot a song, why do it a week beforehand?

Something that I have always wondered and it would be nice if you could explain it one of your videos. What is the process that is being followed once a script is written? What is the psyche behind a director liking/disliking it. Who all it goes through? Because, during the movie shooting process, a lot of crew members including the actors would know whether this particular movie will grip the audience or not. So, do these people stay quiet on the matter or the director is completely blind sighted with the amount he has blown into the project? How no one on the set, no one even during the final screening process tells him that no, we don’t even need audience reaction on this, this is simply not going to run.

After this script is written, the producer would approve of the project and that's when pre-production happens, then after that production and post-production... Tbh, the cast do have a say in the vision of the film but it's kind of limited cause they can be fired... As for the crew, they don't have a say in the creative aspect and even if they had, they have to keep it to themselves or else they'd be asked to go back home... This is to protect the vision of the creators... And the only ones who have a say is the exec producers or the creators... It depends on the country or the region... I'm Singaporean and was a film student... I have no idea if that's the protocol or the process they follow in India but it's what we do here in Singapore... So yeah...

First you need intent, love and pride for the Epic and culture then and then only something like this should be even attempted.

You're really milking the heck out of this movie 😅 and I love that!

But bollywood and some south indian movies has been doing this all the time but only this time they have been cought by public bcz it's not technically well made .Look at PK,Sacred game,Mission kashmir,haider ,laal singh chadha ,Pathan and so many where they silently promote anti hindu ,anti india ,terrorism ,separatism etc but not one pointed out .I expect people like u to show the political narrative behind every movie bcz art and literature has been used by political parties in the country and outside also to influence /change the existing culture of any country 🙏

Thank you for mentioning satyajit ray's view. Ray also had once told in an interview that he would love to make a film only on the Dice Game episode of Mahabharata

Bapu sir in tfi was one of last veteran directors who have directed Ramayan with a lot of reverence and also most of his most have distinctive element of Ramayan entertwined within the story like sundarakanda, rambantu, mutyala muggu etc.. His last venture is itself based on uttarakandam of Ramayan titled as Sri Rama rajyam with balakrishna and nayanthaara as the leads. I suggest you to watch this film in particular because, one it showcases the divine epic in a revered form and two balakrishna looks so different and grounded in terms of acting when compared to his previous films. The music by ilayaraja sir is of top notch and makes you cry.

Ramayana can only be made in a trilogy.. To fully invest the audience in a movie with emotional connection, we need to have a great understanding of characters in Ramayana. But the point is Adipurush team is milking "tone of Boycott gang" that anyone dare Criticise movie represent anti- Hindu forces and liberals not happy with this Renaissance (whatever that means) and creating sacred atmosphere therefore lynching out critic voices..

Adipurush is actually good. You can learn to names of all BJP Chief Ministers from the Thanks card. You can see Ravana getting a snake massage. The sequence, which began with the kidnapping of Sita and the slaying of Jadayu, was great. This is a Hindutva version of angry Ram and not the Congress version of Ram people saw in Ramanand Sagar's Ramayana series. Why didn't people realize it before?

I have never seen any creator actually understanding the comments and replying with his full heart, rather than just few words of engagement. Kudos!!

I would say the best one can do is to adapt Amish's Ram trilogy, starting with The Scion of Ikshvaku and proceeding further. It beautifully separates the timelines and personas of the three main characters and yet connects them in many ways. It would be interesting to see such a trilogy getting adapted into a film.

1. Prabhas played an important role in this movie in saving the environment. Whole of the movie he stood like a, "Tree". 2. Actually Laxmana actor was looking like Rama (atleast). 3. For Ravana's "Tony & Guy" looks with side burns they should have given a mannerism to him. Before start of evey dialogue he will say, "Yo...Yo...man.." with both the hand fingers folded.

You really know that the movie is failed when you immediately want to watch another rendition of it. It is the last thing the newly released movie wants to happen.

Why do I have a feeling that Saif Ali Khan already knew what the final product was gonna look like...and was disappointed and didn't want to associate himself with it... because I honestly do not see him in any of the promotions inspite of playing an important character.(Correct me if I'm wrong)

There is a soul (lack of better word for athma) in ramayan, which touches you every time we hear it , watch it ( even on stage performance) which is missing from adipurush, the writer, director failed to capture which is strange.

The best feature film based on Ramayana is Sampoorna Ramayanam (1972) by Bapu, starring Shobhan Babu as Lord Rama. It is available for free on KZread; give it a try if you can understand Telugu and can excuse the forced 16:8 aspect ratio (the movie was originally 4:3).

This film did the unthinkable and united the country, across the political spectrum. That is the only 'appreciable' quality of this film.

I can see a certain "film critic" in the background. Loved that touch 😆

The saddest part is everyone of us criticizing adipursh but none of us ever read Valmiki Ramayan

I am still feeling awkward that the makers of Adipurush has not even made up their minds to apologize to the audience. Lol ..need this kind of confidence in my life.. They have made a mockery on Ramayana and except the music, everything about adipurush wasn't right... Every film makers can go wrong when they make their art. But trying to understand the sentiments of the audience is important. At the end of the day it is us, who is deciding the verdict of their films. Its so sad that Mr. Manoj and Om Raut, are not ready to accept their mistakes ...Not at all acceptable. They had lack of conviction.

No matter how many options we present and different narratives we suggest...at the end of the day it's all about intent of the makers and their understanding of the viewers sentiments and respecting the same..if you can't put yourself in the audiences seat and see it from their perspective,no matter whosoever makes it,end result will be only a big question mark...

Your 100 percent correct...buying a ticket and then criticing it is useless.... If adipurush manages to earn a profit it just sends a message that instead of making good movies make controversial ones which will have hate watching

I think Ramayan or Mahabharat should have its universe. Where makers can explore a lot of stories happening before and after the events or leading to the epic events and so much more. For that it needs a very well dedicated set of directors like SS Rajamouli ,Bhansali. Music directors like M.M. Keervani ,AR Rehman. And not only big actors but potential actors. That will be a huge global project though. I think makers should learn from MCU DCU what were their positives and what were their negatives of how to make a movie universe work and how not to oversaturate it.

Even the adaptation 'Siya ke Ram' on Star Plus was far far better. The rendition was so beautiful and true to the sentiments. Ravans dipiction by actor Karthik Jayram was spot on.

Forget about this movie.. have you watched rangamarthanda telugu movie? If not pleaseeeee please watch and talk about it. Crazy crazy acting skills by brahmanandam sir, Prakash Raj sir, ramya Krishna mam and the entire cast. One of the best emotional movie I’ve seen in recent times

I Think you have to see Chiranjeevi's Anji(2004) movie directed by Kodi Ramakrishna which has achieved delivering a great graphics at that time.

Allmost all the wrong things in the movie are already highlighted, few things which i feel need also to be told 1) Conversation between sita ma and ravan is shown very poorly, Dialogues and expression of kriti sanon's character is like some modern girl with attitude telling how her bf will beat up when he comes. This is totally wrong. She came from a royal family , she was a princess , she knows how to talk with decorum and proudness not arrogance . 2) Even if they are villains . portrayal of Indrajeet was wrong , even worse was of Kumbhkaran, He was a mighty warrior who fought bravely and no mention of his sons Kumbh & Nikumbh. Hero to dur ki baat , movie to to villain ke saath bhi nyay nahi kar saki 3) 1st meeting between Hanuman ji and Laxman was straight out of whatsapp joke. Hanuman ji are not only about physical strength, he had wisdom too, (Think how he breaks bheems ghamand about strength )

I feel the best way one can adapt the Ramayan is by following Amish Tripathi's Ram Chandra Series. A set of 5 movies following the same pattern followed by the author would surely be popular.

I mean the original Valmiki Ramayan itself has 6 kands, so it definitely shouldn't be rushed into one movie.
