The Navigation was actually a optional extra on the Caprice even here in Australia you had to buy CapriceV to get navigation as standard the navigation was actually separate unit that was installed into the glovebox and mine doesn’t go through tires because I don’t do burn outs
Points taken but either way I'm sure it's still a fun car. I'm sure most people buy this car for the powertrain capability. Like me I wanna swap an l96 and boost it
@MickelsonRacingChannel
Жыл бұрын
I would definitely recommend it! I really enjoy the car and wouldn’t consider selling it because of those five reasons. The power train capability is definitely an attraction.
I bought a 2012 ppv Memorial Day 2022. By July 1st had the DoD Delete done, AFM detuned, Rotofab CAI, and Texas Speed LS7 lifters with a Stage 1 cam installed. Cosmetically I got the headlights undulled, window tint, and new tires on the OEM steel wheels, had it detailed properly to remove the remnants of the word "POLICE" from the hood and clean it up. Yes, parts will be scarce, and expensive. I'm not a car guy but when I discovered that in removing the bull bar, while it was doing police pursuit (or whatever) the New Jersey Police (or whomever) broke the skid plate and front fascia where the steel bolts attached to the plastic. It was hanging with a 3mm gap on the driver's side and 1mm on the passenger side. (Unacceptable) To correct this I braided 10 bungee cords adding one at a time, and now the whole front end is secured to the frame, with flat bungees and solid. There's no gap remaining on either side, and none of the cords are overly stressed and each is supporting the others. It had 95,000 miles on it. It is a blast to drive but I haven't had it over 65 mph yet. Shelbykiller(tm) dynotuned it for street. I know how powerful and fast it is, but I'm in no hurry to get anywhere and 0-60 is exhilarating enough. It's a retired cop car, I'm Retired Army. I don't have money to waste on it but I have never enjoyed any car more. As an homage to it's Holden heritage I made the Chevrolet bowtie on the grill red with a bottle of $1.99 nail polish -since bungee cords are visible I'm not vain about minutiae. It wouldn't even occur to me to do burnouts, drift, or race it, but I'm on a fixed income. It was my 60th birthday present to myself and I expect it to last the rest of my life. Shelbykiller Performance LLC in Oklahoma City did all my engine work. I like it a lot. I traded my 1980 Eldorado for the PPV. (& 60 month loan) My other daily driver is a 1981 Fox body T-Bird with the 302. Possible future mods are a manual transmission, headers, and exhaust upgrades. Possibly. For now, it's just fine.

These cars have their common problems. My car has 140,000 miles on it. I’ve had to do a starter, strut bushings are common failures, plus misc maintenance. Seats built to take vests, guns,gun belts.And you get a chevy person to unlock the infotainment.The only thing you said that was true is parts, it's an australpion car that is no longer made! try finding parts for any foreign car that is no longer in production! Try to find an LS powered car that starts with 355HP for less than 6K sometimes and cop brakes, shocks a reverse gear that does 38 MPH and who knows what else! Guy whines about a car he's doing 30 second burnouts in and can drive it all day! You take care of a car like this and it will run a very long time and the value is going to increase. It's a rare car, you don't have to beat the shill out of it! It is a heavy car because it's the only Police car ever built as a Police car! Go buy a cavalier and quit your whining!

It’s actually an L77, which is a 6.0L but is LS3 based. LS3’s are 6.2L and have slightly different internals.

That’s a nifty idea, I didn’t consider that…
I must agree with you on everything stated. Steering wheel and dash are trash 2014 up interiors are much nicer. Darn headliner good for 100k which started falling off on a 2,800 mile road trip. Joan fabric microfiber and contact cement. ($1,100 headliner no thanks) The seats are just boring, I got the aluminum plate center console non working rear doors. Can’t remove the head unit as it has ac functions. The rear tires another reason why I didn’t stagger to keep the rotation and that’s with a stock rear end. (We must have lead feet!)

$1100 headliner? Mine cost about $200 Oz for a 2012 VE SS Commodore. Fitter reckons on a replacement about every ten years.

I doubt it would cost over $1000 to fix the headliner, a couple of hundred at the most. There are videos on KZread on how to do it yourself and some on the Holden Commodore which the PPV is based on.
You got the crap interior because here in Australia we got leather and a much better interior

Chevrolet Caprice PPV! This one is a 2012, so the 2011-2013 model. There is also a 2014-2017 model in the USA with an interior facelift. These were imported from Australia into the USA strictly for police use only from 2011-2017. 6.0L L77 V8, six speed auto transmission, rear wheel drive.

What a great point, I’ll have to consider that!
There was a time many moons ago I wouldn't pay $1400 for a whole car, let alone a windshield. 😂 Now, serious question.....and I know your vid is a smidgen tongue-in-cheek, but: Do any of the Chevy Impala parts from the 2010s fit on that car?
@MickelsonRacingChannel
2 жыл бұрын
As far as I am aware, none of the Impala parts change over to the Caprice. The taillights and trunk lid look close, but are not the same. The drivetrain and suspension are interchangeable with the G8 and some 5th Gen Camaro stuff.
Not completely true on the blue tooth. That is gonna be car specific. had a 2012 and 2 2014"s all would blue tooth to my phone. Got 11 years in these. Ok cars just kinda sketchy build quality, and for some reason the rear suspension was never sorted out vs a Charger. squirmy butt in curves like sway bar is to small.
