I love this it has been very helpful especially when I just got into the soccer card market and i actually learned that I bought a bunch a single worthless cards but going to take the advise and learn how to grade my cards and start sending them in to get graded !

Great content as always. Probably would have benefited some from hearing this months ago but I am a bit of a hybrid of both. Bought slabs of pre modern and modern and also raw of each that have hey to be graded. Need to spend more time on pop reports etc. Thx for posting and taking the time

Some of the more detailed nuances of the market like population trends and their affect on pricing take time to grasp, but it sounds like you're headed in the right direction. The more research, the better you'll do.

Interesting perspective about the base vs inserts when you said that you think that the base cards will be more reliably valuable than inserts. I know that it's pretty tough, possibly impossible, to know the number of base cards vs number of inserts but by their very nature, inserts are always going to be more rare. I would imagine that this would translate into higher value but I can see your point about people not understanding them. Personally, I would rather have a few higher graded inserts than just simple base cards because they're going to usually be more attractive cards (especially in regards to rookies). 🤔🤓⚽

How do you feel about the Pre 1958 vintage in England. I am grading the entire set of 1934 Ardath Famous Footballers which contains the Stanley Matthews Rookie. England Legend!

You talked in an earlier video about investing in GOATs. I'm curious if one should only pic up their 'rookie' cards or does it make sense to pick up 2nd, 3rd, 4th etc year cards especially in mid to high grade (based on pop reports for individual card - 5 or 6 is sometimes high grade). If rookie GOATs are out, do to price, does it make sense to grab legend rookies (Baggio, Zidane, R9 etc) or later year GOATs (Mara, Pele, Messi, Ronaldo). I think I know the answer here but sometimes you want it to be something else.

This is one of those complex questions that’s going to be wrapped in speculation. Here’s my take at the current time: It depends on the populations and price points, but as a general theory I would focus specifically on rookies or iconic cards only. The higher tier the legend, usually the higher number of iconic cards they have. You’re playing a supply & demand game, so a basic example could be something like: Ronaldo 1994/95 Panini Voetbal in mid-high grade vs. 2006 Messi World Cup card in PSA 10. These are around the same price. In this scenario, I would probably target the Ronaldo, because even though he’s not on Messi level, that 1994/95 sticker is far more important to his market than the 2006 card is for Messi. So much so, that I think the demand for that sticker in the long run could be larger than the demand for the Messi card, despite Ronaldo being a lesser demanded player. You can run through all kinds of scenarios like this, but this is the type of thinking I would use. Massive speculation though.

Hey there! If you're operating on a smaller budget to start, I would highly recommend learning to grade. I'll have a video on grading strategy out over the next few days, but in general I would stick to grading popular prospects rookie cards from new-ish popular sets. It can definitely be overwhelming starting with a small budget because you see just how expensive cards can get. But grinding the lower end of the market is 100% possible. With SGC being at $23 per card (using a group submitter) with a 1 week turnaround time, I think they represent a very attractive option for trying to get the ball rolling.

Great info ! Definitely glad I’ve been roughly following some of these tips since I went back to collecting earlier this year. Question tho: I agree numbered cards def have a higher value, but what about refractor vs sapphire base ? Although not numbered, refractors seem to have a higher value than base sapphire (looking at current prices of 2019 Haaland for example). Is this due to the current market trends or is it a common a thing ? And regarding sealed soccer boxes, is it really better to wait a month after release to buy ? With the exception of the current Topps Chrome UEFA CL, seems to me previous releases have only increased in price long term. I’ve heard the Chrome 2019-20 UCL went from $100.00 upon release to $500.00 a month later. And now it is almost imposible to find any 2019-20 box for less than $1,500.00 🤦🏻‍♂️

So first on the waiting a month subject: I'm specifically referring to buying single cards, not the boxes themselves. You're correct that the 2019 set increased in value post-release, however that has not been the case for the 2020 or 2021 sets thus far. I imagine this is due to a variety of factors including overprinting, lack of Haaland level rookies, and general market interest decreasing. On the non-numbered refractors vs. Sapphire base: I just double checked and it looks like it could be player and situation dependent. For example, Pedri's Sapphire in PSA 10 outsells his Chrome Refractor in PSA 10. Haaland is in the Champions League + Bundesliga sets. His Bundesliga refractor far outsells the Sapphire, which is likely because the Bundesliga is much lower population, and the fact that there is a preference on the market for the Bundesliga set over the Champions League set if a player has both cards. The ultra modern side of the market has a lot of complexities like this that I do not enjoy lol.

Hopefully I will be able to snatch some hobby boxes from previous years now that the market is a bit unstable at the moment. Haha !! I have also noticed the Women's UCL release sold out already ! Any thoughts on that ? Seems to me is mostly due to the low print and the fact that is a brand new release? Maybe people expecting that down the line these boxes might X in value ? Just curious about the 2014 panini World Cup set. You talk a lot about some individual cards in this set as a good investment. I have the chance at the full set for about $180 U.S. with the players available in this set & chance for grading (quality looks good) is this a decent investment? There are cards in this set also that I would hold for pc.

Yea bro that’s a good price that’s the most wanted sets and if you get them graded and wait till 2026 world cup fever you will definitely make your money back atleast that my game plan right now

I was showing soccer cards before it was cool. I was buying random cards, but it was on purpose for set examples so not much money was lost. At the time did not see potential for star cards. Oops. Not many people talk about buying from overseas EBAY vendors.

Bought a few boxes but have bought a Topps gold 10/10 reyna for 15 and hold till World Cup

What's your opinion on match attax? Any collectable value in them?

So in products there is a checklist. In that checklist, there is usually a “base set” and then “insert sets”. Base set includes the more traditional looking cards with a simple photo of the player and the club name. In the modern era, there’s usually many different colored variations of these same base cards. Insert set includes different designs from the base set, usually having a theme like the Pedri “glimpses of gold” example in the video. In the current market, colored base cards are much more sought after than insert cards. They are easier to understand, and in most cases, people prefer just the classic base card design to inserts. Hope this helps!

Eh... Not sure the demand is ever going to be there for them. If someone's targeting a 2006 World Cup sticker for Ronaldo/Messi, idk why they would shoot for those instead of Panini. I know the Panini are crazy high population, but at least the set has some of the best lineage in the whole market. Merlin World Cup stickers aren't really sought after in our current state.

@@schmidtty6896 yeah the supply is intriguing, but there always needs to be the demand side for it. Messi is going to have thousands of scarce issues, but the tough part is predicting which ones will actually have demand long run.

If I got paid $1 for every time you say the word "So" I could buy a Maradona, Pele, Messi and Ronaldo rookie card in PSA 10 condition. lol. Joking aside, great video.
