Great video! I caught myself doing some of the “DONTs” you preach in this video. Still reasonably new to hobby soccer cards, so I appreciate this video. One thing I did learn early on was it’s best to find a mentor, someone who has the experience that you can lean on and ask questions. Cheers

Good stuff. I love collecting Soccer cards! I used to be into baseball cards and I saw some of the UEFA Topps cards, man the quality is so good. It’s all I collect now. The major difference I’ve noticed in Soccer vs other sports is that because there are so many leagues and fan bases the values of cards don’t always directly relate to how good a player is. A decent player from a popular club can often have cards that are worth more than a superior player from an unpopular club. Because there’s no soccer HOF that really sets standards, everybody’s opinion affects the price a bit more.

Thank you! I am trying to learn more as I go. I used to collect sports cards 20+ years ago, before soccer/football cards were even a thing. I decided (for no reason other than I enjoy the game) to start collecting soccer/football cards - not for money or the world cup but just because and I found out recently how expensive cards have become! Unfortunately this is not a "kids" market anymore, you literally have to be working full time+ to afford a pack of cards or a box of cards! I feel a bit overwhelmed with the vast array of products out there, can you suggest one or two maybe three types of cards (Topps Chrome, Merlin, Donruss, Panini, Leaf Metal etc.) that I should focus on, or should I try a variety of card manufacturers/types amd focus on the higher end players...or do I try to make sets like I did as a kid? Thanks for the videos, like and subscribed done!

Many European collectors prefer to have their sticker or card ungraded. If you're starting to prospect, start with $10 cards and hope they'll be $20 one day. If you want to buy a very expensive sticker, do your research first. Don't buy when it's hype, it's time to sell. Great video.

Cool thing about world soccer is that, ppl will buy what player they are a fan of. Whether the player is top tier or goes through a slump won't matter much. Fans be loyal to the teams n players they like.

Lucked out on most of these I think so far, so thanks for pointing them out. Unrealized pops and fakes, especially graded fakes. Thankfully I held off buying too much soccer throughout 2021. I probably could have avoided issues and been buying but I did not have the knowledge and think I definitely would have gotten caught. Just learning about fake stickers with this video for example

I learned that the UEFA stickers and major league releases do have high production but if you look at stuff like the 2000 Panini Allesvaneken Ibrahimovic, that shit you can’t find anywhere and is actually rare af. I’d stay away from tournament sticker “rookies” and major league stickers like calciatori, foot, este, unless that player only has a sticker and no cards.

Prospecting is fun, so much fun - but there's millions of hard luck tales. I'm a Liverpool fan, obsessive, so I'll give you three names who could have been Liverpool all time greats - Wayne Harrison (at the time the most expensive 17 year old in the world), Ian Frodsham (one of the most talented midfielders in England) and Sean Highdale (a great midfield talent) - heard of any of them? Tragic stories for every one of them. As you say, balance is key but it's probably best for novices to avoid prospecting until they've gained a little knowledge of how European leagues work, their structures and what cards/stickers are produced for them.

Perfectly put, soccer is one of the hardest sports to prospect in. So much talent out there, with many different leagues and styles, with coaches who often don't have the right system for certain players. It's not as simple as many other sports and like you described the amount of fallen prospects along the way greatly outweighs those that become legends..

@@UsmntSoccerCards yeah but i good eye for detail will do well spotting the talent. A bit of research into the person and how they cope mentally helps. Also finding out which scouting manager they are link to helps as those with close ties usually do better. Some very promising young stars......England dominating the youth in euros and world cups so they could be big in years to come. Also a few young brazilians 16years old i like, there is Endrick signed by real but on the fence with him, skillful but bit small. breno bidon looks good and i like a player kaua elias, he looks very strong on the ball.

I'm leaning toward ungraded due to all the current findings. I am having a hard time with buying overseas a card over $30. Stuff was getting lost a few years ago. Hope it has gotten better. I hope one day people will destroy fakes and not pas them on the next day.

never bought cards before but if i did i would try target 16=20year olds that i think will become greats. A lot of scouting and watching youth matches would be needed......small tip the english football side has been dominating the youth euros and world cups so might be wise to look into some of their star players as there is potential they could win a world cup in 2030. Yes that is a long time to hold an investment and still risky and a long shot but could be good? not really sure as like said never bought cards and dont know how they fluctuate but seems like would be smart.

prospecting as you call it would be the most fun. Would be only reason i would buy a card. I love watching youth games as it is so for me would go hand in hand with what i like most.

I'm torn on the sticker. Long term I think you'd be better off with a Messi rookie of some kind, in the short term I think you'd be better off with a 2017 Topps Chrome or 2018 Prizm. His sticker is his true rookie and I believe it's his best collectible, but will the market notice that? If prices go up as we head towards the world cup I'm not sure the people buying Mbappe stuff will be knowledgeable enough or care enough about his sticker.

Picked up an Erling Haaland Topps Finest UEFA #24 in SCG 10 for $54 last night. Big into soccer but new into cards. Planning on holding and seeing what happens over the next 2-3 years.

The narrative of "it's Messi's Prizm rookie" is so infuriating. When I hear that at a card show by some random dealer & that's the only soccer card that he has on the table, I just want to flip the table over and stomp on everything he has.

From what I hear Card show guys basically only know Ronaldo and Messi, and I'd imagine they're the main holders of those prizms too. Such a shame they don't care to learn more about the sport, they just want to ride the wave and cash in on it..
