I'm just an Army grunt, but I have very close to the same 5 core weapons. Only difference is my go-to AR is chambered in .308 and the reason I went that route is being a remote mountain dweller, with more big critter threat than 2 legged threat and rolling solo, I want my primary weapon to pack a heavier punch at a better range than 5.56 offers. That being said if I were urban/suburban with more potential people threats in much closer ranges, I would deff be going for the 5.56 as my primary fighting weapon. Evaluate your environment/threats/needs and adjust accordingly.

@Brooklyn Boi Good thing I don't think that. If you read what I posted you'll see that I think for being alone in mountainous terrain where longer range engagements are more likely the 308 is a better option than the 5.56/223 and for suburban/urban the 5.56 is where it's at. I would rather have a squad of joes myself, but for personal security out here in the mountains of nowhereville that would be well beyond my budget.

Shotgun is hands down the most versatile weapon ever, Birds, doors, deer, people, butterflies.... its litterally kills anything with the change of a shell
I would always add a decent air rifle, particularly a pump type that does not require c02 cartridges. You can keep tens of thousands of bb's for almost no cost and be able to hunt lots of small game anywhere without making nearly any sound at all.

I 100% agree and I'm looking for an air rifle that's good for it myself. The biggest thing I've run into is the bigger ones with CO2 can take out anything, the smaller pump ones can take out small game and the compact one's won't do anything. The added weight and bulk of the big and mid one's can be negated by a .22 lr rifle so it's just the best option in my book. Plus with a henry AR 7 they take up no space.

I found out from having to evacuate during Hurricane Florence that weight and concealment are a premium. In emergency disaster areas there are also, restrictions to carry that make it difficult to comply with the letter of the law versus protecting your family. We evacuated by boat with the Coast Guard flying above us. I was able to grab my BOB and a bag of food with my wife and kids carrying duffel bags with bare minimum clothes. The Northeast Cape Fear went 9' above our front yard and stayed up for over 14 days. We evacuated to my parents house about a mile from us but, were completely cut off from town due to flooding. We were surrounded by water for two weeks and running low on food. We ate out of the food trucks once the water dropped low enough to drive through into town. I developed a nasty staff infection from fire ant bites while walking in the flood water. I was treated at the emergency hospital tent they had setup in town. The Doctor said I had one of the nastiest infections she had seen as the back of my leg looked like hamburger meat. I share this as something for everyone to think about because it has changed how I prepare if we need to evacuate in the future.

Super good video! Grew up with my dad as a gunsmith, in a retail gun shop, and with dad as a part-time law enforcement and certified armorer, I was exposed to a lot of practical why-to and what-to of firearms. Your video is spot on, with your comments and choices practical. Your comment about the Mossberg safety location relative to the 870’s - I learned that from dad 50 years ago, and glad to see that logicality still applies today (though I love my 870’s!). The G19. the 700, the Mossberg, the 10/22 - all super solid choices!
@mooutlaw417
Жыл бұрын
Totally agree with the selections and caliber/gauge based upon logistics. All reside in my safe except there's 870's in lieu of Mossbergs. The preference for the Mossberg tang safety surprised me coming from a 10/22 advocate. 10/22 safety is forward of the trigger knocked off with the index finger like the 870's, which is just behind the trigger. If I could only have 5. The only other deviation is swapping the 700 for a AR 10/AR 308 solely due to our current political climate...
I'd throw in a good PCC into the mix too, especially one chambered in the same round as the handgun. Even better if they have mag compatibility

Good video. No nonsense. That's pretty much the same advice I give to every "new" person I meet. Don't get a gun you don't need, or that has exotic ammo, and don't start modifying it before you learn to shoot it well just the way it came from the factory. Like others have said, a .22LR or Mag revolver is the only other on my list. They're great for teaching people how to shoot.
Out of all the channels that give their weapons recommendations, I agree with your choices the most. Your explanations for each one made perfect sense to me.
Thanks for the rundown. Can't argue with anything on this list.
As someone who was not in the military or a “gun nut” but a hunter and sometime shooter, I’m really close on these. I have the Taurus G2C for my handgun, .270 for my rifle, REM 870 for my shotgun, and an old Remington .22. I don’t have a AR-style rifle yet, but I’ve got my eye, and budget, set on a couple. Thanks for great videos like these.
Totally agree with type/caliber recommendations, there’s some wiggle room among respectable brands but this is great stuff. Even so, I’m a .45 guy, and in most scenarios will lug a bunch of that heavy (and readily available) stuff around to feed my Moses gun, because I shoot far better with that than with short barreled striker-fired handguns.
Many thanks for the simple, straightforward advice - my current 5 are very close in philosophy - SigP320 9mm - Ruger American .308 - Ruger 10/22 - Remington 870 in 20 Gauge - AR15
I do like having an 8 shot 357. They are concealable and you get pretty insane ballistics for defense or even deer hunting. I like the reliability of revolver too. I agree completely and have many of these in my collection, the one that surprised me and changed my mind about the caliber the most was the 10/22. I had plinked around with some 22s in the past but pretty much went right into center fire calibers when I first started to build my collection, but I found a stainless 10/22 takedown model on sale at my local gun shop one day that I absolutely could not pass up for the price. And that thing is an absolute blast to shoot, has helped me acclimate several people to shooting and has more accessories available than you can shake a stick at. Not to mention the takedown function paired with a magpul stock setup makes the PERFECT backpack/survival rifle.

This subjects been beaten to death before through the years and you are exactly on par with most census on 5 best guns if you could only pick 5 to have. The shotgun is the most versatile of all those weapons but we all know it lacks capacity. Those are my top 5 except brands differ alittle. If there was 6 on the list I would definitely add a lever action probably in 30-30.

Deputy Fatally Shot Off Duty Officer ( WHO IS THE HOME OWNER THE CAR-JACKER AND HOME INVADER CAME TO ) - THE SHERIFF SHOOTS GOOD GUY DEAD !!! Clark County sheriff's Office Jan 29-2022 kzread.info/dash/bejne/mptpypaCkcmYYdI.html Vancouver, Clark County, Washington --- On Saturday, January 29, 2022 around 2014 hours police responded to Chevron, 9810 NE 117th Avenue, Vancouver, for an armed robbery that just occurred. The caller reported a 23-24YOA white male reportedly produced a handgun, pointed the firearm at the clerk’s chest and demanded money. The suspect fled the scene in a stolen dark-colored Mercedes passenger car with several hundred dollars. Twelve minutes later, the armed robbery suspect was intercepted by police traveling northbound on I-205. The robbery suspect failed to stop for police and the suspect eluded officer’s apprehension attempts. The robbery suspect eluded officers for several miles and eventually exited I5 toward the City of Battle Ground, Washington where assisting officers successfully deployed spike strips to immobilize the vehicle. The robbery suspect then exited the vehicle and fled on foot to avoid apprehension. As assisting officers established containment, a resident in the Battle Ground area called 911 reporting a lone male, coincidentally matching the description of the robbery suspect, was pounding on their front door asking for assistance because he had just been involved in a collision. The female caller told emergency dispatch her husband was an armed off-duty Vancouver Police Officer and had exited their residence onto the driveway in front of their home in an attempt to detain the suspect for responding officers. The suspect then became aggressive and engaged in a physical fight with the off-duty officer while the female caller was still on the phone with emergency dispatch. The off-duty officer lost control of his firearm and suffered several stab wounds during the struggle with the suspect. The suspect broke free from the struggle and ran toward the officer’s residence which was occupied by the officer’s wife, who was still on the phone with emergency dispatch. The off-duty officer was able to recover his firearm that he lost control of during the struggle then ran after the suspect who was attempting to enter his home while still in possession of the instrument used to stab him. Within seconds of responding law enforcement officers arriving on scene, one Clark County Deputy Sheriff fired several rounds from a rifle striking the off-duty officer. The off-duty officer/homeowner collapsed on his front porch before responding officers were able to determine he was the homeowner and not the alleged robbery suspect. The suspect surrendered to police moments later and was taken into custody without incident. Officers attempted to provide emergency trauma care to the off-duty officer, but they were unable to stabilize him. The deceased off-duty Vancouver Police Officer has been identified as 52YOA Donald Sahota.

About once a week I take her out and do a few drills, mostly muscle memory at this point, but I also like to trial a mix of factory and custom loads through the old girl to see if anything makes her jam up. I swear it's one of those guns that just never quits on a guy. I will admit to having a 14" 870 as a backup backup in the bedroom closet, but so far I'd rather have the luxury of just an astounding amount of semi auto firepower at my fingertips when there's no time to be fumbling around with a pump. Pump Action shot guns are by far the most versatile of the guns. Short range to mid range. You can pretty much put anything in projectile wise in the case ranging from salt, bb's, slugs, rubber pellets to incendiary rounds. A round for most situations.

12 ga. shotties trump all in this regard. As long as you can get primers (or make them) then you can use all sorts of crap as propellant, and use anything and everything as projectiles. Rusty old nuts and bolts, nails, ball bearings, hell-even rock salt! You can use match heads as propellant. Barbecue charcoal and tree stump remover (potassium nitrate) can be used as propellant as well. Reliable primers are the difficult part, but shotguns have EVERYTHING else going for them because when you're all out of ammo and nobody will sell you any (or nobody has any) then you can always improvise!

@@twwtb I didn't really mean that though, I just meant the ability to improvise ammo when there's nothing available. I didn't mean being specific, just having anything at all to shoot at someone in self defense. Nothing to do with all that "right tool for the job" business you hear gun nut types going on and on about all the time, just something, anything, to shoot with.
My man. Your quads are on point! Keep up the good work.
Great list. The Mossberg 835 with 3.5 inch shells and heavy goose loads is quite the bruiser.
I agree. I also love that you mentioned "fun" near the end. I think it's underrated. What gets a lot of people into guns, Is the fact that it's "fun" had some new female shooters out yesterday evening. They enjoyed the 9mm's and my AR.... but when I stuck the little 22lr M&P 15-22 In their hands, they went to town on the steel. And were complete smiles and giggles the rest of the evening.
This year I added break barrel 177 air rifles to my arsenal. The 22 lr is sometimes too large for squirrels and small birds. A quality break barrel 177 rifle fills that niche. With the price of ammo going up and up the lead pellets are quite a bargain.

This was great info man. I just ran across this. I have 3/5 of those on the list. I am in the market for a good hunting rifle and shotgun and you gave me a great direction. Thanks man. I appreciate you.
Awesome video. Thank you for your service.
I agree with the list. As a consolation prize, I would add the lever action. Can be as versatile as the shotty. (Marlin was used as the weapon of choice in Jurassic world). That 10/22 is a great “my first rifle” to learn from. A 12 year old can start here in addition to all the great qualities mentioned. Glock 19 is a great choice because of aftermarket support. Glock mags are very commonly used in other firearms **cough** ruger pc9. That is a big plus to go with when expanding your “tool box”
Good stuff, I would have to up my count to six guns and throw in a 22lr pistol because even the youngest or weakest individual can most likely can shoot and train with inexpensively
That’s awesome. Those are the same guns I have. I had the same idea as I was buying my guns. I look at them as tools. Sometimes you need a impact drill and sometimes you need a regular drill
I'm actually pretty decently prepared in this category. But I need to upgrade my scopes. One step at a time, Love the advice!
I am no Seal but am a gunsmith. I agree with your 5 gun arsenal. If I was the last guy on the planet and could only have one gun it would be a Ruger stainless M77 Mark II all weather in 30-06 with sights. Preferably the model with the skeletonised synthetic stock also known as the canoe paddle. I would want a scope preferably a Leupold 3-9x40 scope. If the scope fails I can remove the scope with a pocket knife and go back to open sights. The Ruger has the least moving parts and all those parts are very robust. The firing pin can be removed with anything that will fit through the hole above the sear on the bolt. Even a piece of beach grass or small twig. The rings are bomb proof as well as being quick detachable in case the scope went out of service. A Leupold 3-9 would allow me to engage game out to 500 yards. My one gun arsenal for wilderness survival. The 30-06 has the power and ammo available that is suitable for small varmints to elephants. The only thing it really needs to prepare it is the rings lapped straight and round. For me I would give it a 2 pound trigger job but it is still very usable as it comes out of the box.
I kinda like PCC's for inside the home defense. Little bit smaller so more manueverable and a bit higher magazine capacity. Just a preference I guess. I enjoyed the video and thank you

Solid selection. I personally would increase the list to 7 adding a Marlin 22 Bolt, and a Ruger 22 pistol. Ammunition is expensive and you can plink all day with these 22 caliber guns. Maybe increase it to 8 and add a Mini 14. Yeah I guess I can always rationalize buying more guns or guitars, where the perfect amount of either is N +1, where N = the amount you have now.

I mostly agree. Personally I picked an SKS, a .22 lever action, a .38 special, a 12 ga pump, and a .22 magnum bolt action. I'd love to add an AK-47 and a .45 pistol as well as a .308. but I think I'll survive pretty well on what I have already. A 4570 would be nice too.

I really like .22 Mag. It is a good 200 yard caliber for small game.
I'm with you on caliber selection, 9mm is ubiquitous for handguns and it's very shooter friendly. 5.56x45 and 7.62x51 mm are solid choices for rifles, for the same reasons. A lot of guys like 12 ga. for shotguns as do I, but others may benefit from 20 ga. The .22 lr is one I don't own, it is extremely popular in the community but I have no use for it personally. I'm not a brand ambassador, so my recommendation is to buy well built firearms that fit your needs.

@futuremlbplayer10 He gave one of the primary reasons, which is ammunuion affordability. You can get decent quality 9mm for as low as 25 cents a round, whereas decent 556 ammo would cost 3 times as much. Also if your primary weapon (rifle) goes down, you're not sitting there with a bunch of ammo you can't use.

My Remington 11-87 has never one malfunctioned in probably 1,000 rounds or more. It will feed 3” magnums and 2-3/4” target loads stacked together and never fail to feed or extract. Friends with pumps have had far more “failures” due to short stroking than I’ve had with my semi auto.

Not everyone can afford to be redundant, but two of each is a luxury worth striving for, but I sustain these choices if you can achieve this goal of five guns.
