Exactly! I ran 4:42 in high school, but now I'm 52 (and probably about that many pounds overweight), and I'm just tryna break 7:00 again. Been stuck at 7:37 for awhile, but I ran a 3:26 800 over the weekend, so I'm getting there

A great group workout is run 300's , the start is slow run in a line the last person must kick somewhere after the first 100 and the others must react to the kick really great for awareness and speed, it teaches you to make your move decisive.

I'm currently sitting at 5:19 for a mile right now, and I really want to break 5 minutes before my season ends, however it's going to be difficult so I'm just taking it a step at a time, I do have a mile race coming up soon and I'm in pretty good shape right now so I think I can get a new time in the mile. My goal for the next mile race is probably sub 5:10. Wish me luck!

Re the 8x400 session; reduce the recovery from 90 seconds to 60 via 75 seconds. Or try 2x4x400 with 30 seconds between the 400s and a longer rest, say 10 minutes between the sets.

Steeple is a tough race to pace because of the barriers practice going over barriers at speed A LOT. Otherwise I find people always tend to run a lot slower than they are able to.

800 and the Mile or 1500 is building up a lot of lactate. (That's painful) You don't have this if you running something short like 100 or for most of 200 m run/sprint. You don't or should n't have this issue when running a 10K race or anything longer
