5 Easy Ways to Sound More Confident with Assertive Language in English

Did you know that being assertive in English can help you manage stress and negative emotions, deal with uncomfortable situations, and express yourself more effectively?
Plus, it can help you avoid too many responsibilities if you have a hard time saying no to others or asking for what you want.
And, most importantly, sound more confident.
That all sounds pretty awesome, doesn’t it?
But what does it mean to be assertive and how can you do that in English?
That’s exactly what we’re going to focus on in this first Confident English lesson for 2019!
In today’s lesson, you’ll learn what it means to be assertive in English and you’ll get 5 strategies that will help you communicate in an assertive way with confidence:
✨Say no to meet a client after work because you want to go to your daughter’s concert at school
✨Ask for what you want/need at work, without feeling bad
✨Defend your opinion or point of view, even if others disagree with you
✨Manage stress more easily by setting clear boundaries
✨Respond to uncomfortable situations respectfully instead of with anger or aggression
At each step, I’ll share clear examples of the language you can use in English to help you do this. And then you’ll have the opportunity to practice at the end.

I can see we've done a lot of good job together, however I need to move on to another project starting in two days. This means I am no longer able to advice you on the issues left, but I enjoyed helping you. Let's make sure today that I hand over to you all the documents related to the project, so that you can proceed on your own firmly and with no hesitation. I'm sure you'll make the rest of it! :) From Wednesday on I need to focus on an another commitment. 2. I need my book back by tomorrow evening. Please, drop it at my postbox, when you pass by or let me me know when I can pick it up. Thanks.

Therefore there are a lot of culture of doing business and you use those strategies much more often. Where I come from, the Canary Islands we are too indirect and polite, not having the results we expect especially when you bump into a bare face person. Best wishes
