After some six decades of farming/gardening I have come to know that there are two last frost dates. There is the average last frost date, and then there is the real last frost date. The real last frost date is usually just a few days after we put the transplants into the garden. 😟

Try building a relatively low raised bed, maybe 12x12 or so, then add hoops & plastic. Much easier than a full build with windows. Hoop green houses are easy, much cheaper, can be moved about as your plants grow.

I know in my area there are towns that do spring bulk pickups, it’s a great way to get old windows, sometimes pots with soil, etc. Last year someone threw out a bunch of tulips in the pots, with soil, because the flowers died. I can tell you they are coming up in my garden. Get creative when you see other things being thrown out, decent buckets or planters, 2x4s, etc. Trex decking makes great raised beds.

I have a wormery and it's kept in the kitchen so any food scraps go in. No animal products (milk, meat, etc) or things like onions (very sparingly)and citrus (too acidic and oily). My watering is done by using the worm compost to make "extract", 1 large spoon in a small metal filter, and 1 gallon of water poured through. It's not possible to harm the plants, and if I feed the worms a wide variety of things, I get a fairly balanced fertilizer. It's an excellent addition to potting soil, and heavy feeders like tomatoes, peppers, cucumber and squash need this more than other plants.

Just remember there’s always those nature miracles because last season I had a tomato plant that I made two of these mistakes with it was starting to flower inside and I put it out to early and had like 3-5 frost after it was outside and I just covered it every time temp would dip but that ended up being my strongest plant and grew huge took over the side of my house!

Thanks for the great video. I made a HUGE mistake with all of my seeds this year. Last year I started seeds for the first time, and had legging sprouts. I had grow lights on them and tried so hard to get it right. I’ve always loved gardening, on a tiny scale, but this was the first time I tried growing from seeds as I usually buy plants. I made several mistakes last year and ended up killing most of them (didn’t harden them off) and had to buy plants again. But I didn’t give up and this heat I’m trying again. I live in Canada in zone 6, so I started some seeds last week and two days later I had some sprouts. I was dry excited. But as I said I made a huge mistake. I thought since my seedlings last year were leggy maybe I should not turn on my lights immediately. 4 days in my tiny little seedlings as quite tall but so scrawny. So I’m very glad to see this video and hope I can save my delicate little plants.
