In this video I talk about five common mistakes made by wedding photographers and more importantly, how you can avoid making them. These are not practical tips, but are more to do with mindset and building more confidence in your photography and your business.

The best way to success is not to buy expensive equipment but to see light while doing your job... good advice, thank you Neil...

Love the bit about embracing failure. I've been trying a technique from one of your previous videos where you got the groom to lead the bride. It's just not been working, then yesterday it produced a cracking image for me, so thank you Neil!

Thanks, Neil, for this very interesting video. I know we only have to post our very best images, but I don't like that fact. It is in fact lying to the customer and we only have to do it because everyone else on social media present themselves as being perfect. I know a lot of waw photographers that are really mediocre once you see an entire wedding and not just the best two images. I have a difficult time swallowing this huge marketing pill, but I understand I will have to or run out of business. So, to everyone, Neil is sadly right! You are also right about the gear. Understanding and practicing with the gear we have is more important than the latest and greatest. Only, buying something new takes less effort and satisfies the kid in ourselves. 👨‍👦

Thank you so much for the effort you put into these videos! I shot my first wedding on June 22. You’re videos helped me a great deal! When I had time and got my safe shots I tried using my prism and fractals set. I even tried using a lamp in the room for some creative shots. One thing I realized is I need more practice with my on and off camera flash. I would like to see a video on how you use flash at the reception as I was getting frustrated from the DJ lights.

Thanks for keeping it real. I often read on facebook about how busy some of these photographers are, and how high their rates are. I wonder how they have time to follow these facebook groups and comment on all these posts everyday. I guess it's like you said, just BS.

Seconds? Yes please! Also, I have the d800 and the d850 and love it. I've been on the fence between buying another d850 as a backup and retiring the d800. However after watching you shoot with your mirrorless and your d810, it really gave me second thoughts about moving to mirrorless. Could you possibly consider a video for those of us who are considering the transition and what to expect once we are shooting with both mirrorless and DSLR? What did you do? How did you handle it? Also, can you address the compatibility issue with lenses? I know Nikon has an adapter so that you can use the lenses that are already in your bag.

Thank you very much! Personally I don't have prices on my site as I would prefer every couple to get in touch and I think having prices on can be potentially off putting. There is no right or wrong though!

So so true Neil! I've been so focused on getting new lens and saving up (as I only have 2!!) but if I get out there more with the 2 I have that's going to be WAY better for my business, surely? P.S Does Toni know you're telling everyone to only post a couple of times a week on Insta... ;)
