Great stuff there coach! I'm a kickboxing coach since many years and I tell my (beginner) students to pull up their rear hand an inch or so as they throw the jab, to combat the tendency to drop the rear hand. So you're touching the orbital bone with your knuckles at first (with rear hand) and then when the jab lands your touching the eyebrow. Your thoughts on this?

Hey Tony. Thanks for the video. I know you have a video on why you might not be landing shots, but being new I was thinking about my training the other day and had a thought. When training on the bag it’s easy to always hit but when you are sparring or working with a partner it’s almost - and probably is - as though you are not as close to the other person as you are to the bag so it feels really alien. I wondered if you could maybe do a video on this and the differences and how to work on a bag vs with someone and land shots etc. thanks

As always great video, any chance you can do a video on how to be relaxed in training and in the ring instead of being uptight. Something I really struggle with!
Straight to the point and willing to show his own mistakes. Can’t tell me Tony isn’t one of the best boxing coaches.

The flick can be used to make opponent blink and such, it's fast and can be implemented into your arsenal. Tyson fury is known to use it quite often.

it is fundamentally wrong though and a beginner should not flick the jab until he knows how to throw an actual jab.
@ceroew4239
2 жыл бұрын
Flicker jab is more advanced. You have no business throwin it if u cant manage a prpper jab first. Also it might also be a flicker unintentionally bc the person is bein lazy or just throwin it just to throw it.
@spencer6049

@@brutuslutus6636 yea fair point but I'm pointing that it can still be used. And there's nothing "fundamentally wrong" different move for different purpose.

I was guilty of both telegraphing and flicking when I started 2 decades ago. Took me a good 3 months of drilling just jabbing for me to unlearn the habit. At 41 now, I can jab a hole in a hanging piece of paper. I actual emulate Jack Dempsey's jab, which he throw both his jab and his cross with his elbows down rather then outwars.

Thanks for sharing mate, took me 6 months to avoid dropping my hands

You are hands down the best boxing coach on the internet mate. Legend 💪
I LOVE that he uses a video of himself getting hit for the mistake in question. A) It happens to us all don't lie B) How humble is this man!?
This is the reason why I searched this, this helped me improve my straights and jabs ty very much! I'm now a fan and a subscriber mate
Love these videos, especially the longer ones with the different chapters. Absolutely has helped me for the past 2 years, cheers mate!
good tips Tony, I remember learning the jab and I'm thinking "eh how easy this is, its just a straight punch" man was I wrong, I mean yeah it is a straight punch but there's so much to it that you don't see. I think my biggest problem was telegraphing (all my punches) and I spent hours and hours practicing by myself to correct that and I'm happy to say even though I'm not active any more, I'm much better at not telegraphing any of my punches, look at it this way, your jab can never be "too good". That Mayweather jab is something but my all time favorite was Sonny Liston, man what a jab! Have a good day

when i started out i would always record myself practicing just to see my mistakes, i would basically be my own coach telling myself what i need to change and work on, i think that helped me a lot with my form overall

The amount of passion and pro advices that transpires from this man is overwelming. Also, i love such a british accent, even if i'm italian ahah.
My favorite is the “Double Jab” I focus more on different jabs than anything else.
I've boxed for a long time, but now I'm without a coach, training on my own. I love your channel and the passion and drive you put into your content. Its helped keep me sharp, and your character and enthusiasm motivate me to keep training. Love you man, keep up the great work.
Tony , I love learning from your videos mate they are brilliant
Awesome work Tony! Your way of teaching is simple and to the point! This plus point of yours makes you unique from other boxing channels 👍👍👍👍
I just discovered your channel this week and I'm loving and leaning it.
I'm so glad to see that I've already fixed this stuff! I realized my mistakes months ago after watching a video of me I posted... it wast too bad, but I've made ALOT of progress and improvements since then. Thanks bro! Good helpful video!
This channel is brilliant, great content delivered efficiently wwith no nonsense.
love your channel so much!
Solid advice!
Great tips. Love the content
Cool. Thanks Tony. I have been lacking on reviewing videos from work then training for boxing. I have better technique but your tips help a lot in reviewing as I like perfecting what I already know to embed it 100% in my head to where it is like second nature
You’re knowledge and passion reallly shine through, you’ve got yourself another subscriber mate
The fact that you included a clip of yourself throwing the lazy jab tells me everything I need to know about you, instant subscribe
I use the flick jab as a way to blind and annoy opponents into covering up to change angles or create space
Tony when you were demonstrating the "Floyd" jab, you were pulling your lead hand back quite a bit before each jab. Essentially nullifying the pros of that style of jab (speed) and also telegraphing it.

Good advices man, I noticed tanks to this vid that when I upper-cut I telegraph it a little gonna fix that now💪🏽
Natural, simple, enthusiastic and delivered with confidence backed up by experience a great way of instructing the core skills in boxing. As a 59 year old I have incorporated them into my fitness regime and try to learn a new tip at the beginning of the week then practice it in every session. Love the best combinations video though I was chinstrapped after practicing them. Keep up the great work it is much appreciated.

Great video! First time seeing one of your vids. Definitely a great way to improve your jabs. Do you have one on the flicker jab like Thomas Hearns used to use?
Thank you for sharing your knowledge!

Thank you for your content.

thankyou for taping and wearing good gloves on the heavy bag, 40 years a lot of people damage there hands with bag mitts and it took many years not to drop my right hand a inch before throwing a real good jab
Thank you coach , great video💯👍
I quite regularly show your vids in our gym mate. You're like a tl;dr for all the stuff I'm not experienced enough to not get caught up in tangents about. Thx.
Great vid Tony, am guilty of 2 and very guilty of 5. Will try to train myself out of it.
Tony, what do you think about the risk of hyper extension when snapping the jab with the arm fully extended ? Aren't we suppose to keep it a little bent so injuries won't build up over time

Full extension means 90 to 95% instead of being face to face to your opponent/heavy bag throwing with 50% extension. 100% is never be good due to hyper extension in case of missing the target like you said!

Great tutorial, amll so true !! Thanks for sharing this Tony, 🤩🖐😁🖐🧡 One note , also i think not telegraphed jabs can be beautiful when its a full rapid extension where the elbow doesn't raise so much on the side, and the step really minute and supple like lifting a pancake from a small frying pans ,
Boxing fundementals. Love it
this really helps! I never knew I was doing it lazy haha thanks mate!
