5 Broken PS5's - 13 PS5's Revisit - Can I Fix Them Now? Back in March 2021 I bought a lot of 13 broken PS5s and tried to fix them. I was able to fix some of the 13 but kept the ones I couldn't fix so I could try again later. So I've got 5 of those PS5s that I'm going to try (again) to fix. A number of them seem to have software issues so I'm hoping those can be fixed with the updates that have been released since then.

    At the end of the day - These PS5s are worth *A LOT OF MONEY* and people are still struggling to buy one as well as getting ripped off by scalpers. These PS5s represent a money making investment not just because he makes money from the youtube views but also because he can sell them for profit when he's done repairing them or at least have a few that couldnt be repaired saved for parts for ones that can.

    Ahhh bummer, such a shame, but like you said not every one is fixable. That said, the green screen of death is typically an overheating VRAM issue. I noticed it a couple of times while I've worked on them. It could make sense if the games are crashing that you have a bad ram module. P.S if you want to sell the green screen one, I'd love to have a shot at it, or to try and fix it and send it back to you 😉

    I agree, I have seen simular visual issues when graphic cards on computers crash. I don't have much experience with consoles specifically, but I have seen tearing, freezing, and even total blackouts of the computer screen. On a computer the OS will attempt to restart the graphics card most of the time when things go bad. But the PS is probably programmed to shut down to preserve the hardware. The fact that they were running at all is an indication of that everything was ok for a moment, but likely has some bad connections in the circuit which changed with heat.

  • @windowsxpprofessional

    @windowsxpprofessional

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@AleksanderFimreite you're not totally right about computers graphics card. In a pc / laptop, the is can bsod into whea_uncorrectable_error, which is hardware based error and may be gpu. A computer can never 'restart' it's gpu. The whole system has to be unplugged, then power button has to be pressed for 10-20 secs and that is the best way to clean any corruption in the memory which might be retained even after a pc is shut down. For resetting graphics you can press windows+control+shift+b key.

    It might have been interesting to try installing Horizon (PS4) to an external drive and run it directly off of that. If it doesn't freeze, it strengthens the assumption that the internal SSD is the culprit. I wonder if re-seating that internal SSD would do anything or if it's just faulty.

    For the frozen game consoles. Try to install a game to an external usb drive. If it won't crash, the internal ssd is faulty. If it fails,the ram is faulty. Try non disc(digital) games first. For the green screen shutdown, the vrm or the APU could be faulty. If the hdmi driver chip is faulty, the data communication between the tv and the console would broke or fail sometimes, and the tv would throw the data away if it has a lots of errors.

    I was tempted to say faulty ram for the first couple, but after thinking about it, the PS5 mostly works fine and will crash only after loading a game, so I'd say the most likely culprit is a bad VRM phase or something is overheating, because it seems to only happen once the GPU ramps up.

    I have a feeling it's a defective APU/CPU. You could try reflow the APU (one with liquid metal paste). Could be an internal storage, just a maybe. Normally most computers now days especially PS5 is not excluded loads game files to System RAM or GPU VRAM, if it was a faulty storage, it wouldn't allow you to download and install games especially PS5 firmware. I have also have a feeling one of the RAM/VRAM chip is faulty. Could be just the APU/CPU is faulty period.

    It might be possible to do a NAND swap. I can't imagine those are married to the board. But that's more complicated than the type of repairs you normally do. If anything I would think it's the controller itself that can't be swapped.

  • @detroxx56784

    @detroxx56784

    2 жыл бұрын

    The NAND itself is probably just a stupid flash chip, but it's possible that there's some sort of encryption or special formatting going on which also links the flash chip to its controller. Not in a unbreakable way but that would probably require reading and writing to the raw flash chip itself, so unless one has the skills to do that, it's basically paired to the rest of the board. That's a really stupid thing to do btw, because honestly how many people are going to transfer flash chips from one console to another. It's not like Sony would be losing a load of money by allowing these kinds of repairs, I think 🤔 Unless they know that this is going to be a frequent point of failure and thus they can sell more consoles. But that also doesn't make a ton of sense because the hardware is supposedly sold at a loss, so it would actually hurt them if one user was to buy multiple consoles.

    Thanks for the follow-up! So sad you couldn't fix them now, but I'm sure when more info about the motherboard gets figured out, you'll be able to fix them!

    Bummer about your luck, but it's not from a lack of trying, that's for sure. Love to see how methodical you are with your processes.

    Back when these first came out my ps5 was experiencing the ce- 108255 error and Sony kept telling me to wait for a firmware update.. I ended up telling them I had graphic issues because I was tired of waiting and they gave me a new one.. crazy to know I'd still be waiting for that update they claimed was going to fix the freezing issue

    Just a thought but for the board that keeps resetting the power, try using an IR camera to see if something on the board is overheating and causing the board to reset. There are addons for iPhones and Android phones that can take infrared video and pictures if you don't have a dedicated IR camera.

    It’s all good content. Sometimes it’s all about the process. It’s just a shame that you didn’t get a result from your hard work.

    You should use the first one with the freezing issue as your info unit power it up note all the voltages an then compare to the last one thats not powering on you will be able to see what is different

    Hey man, I really want to get into electronics repair. Ever since I've started watching you, Louis Rossman, and Northridge I am extremely interested in learning. I feel passionate about it, but I have no idea where to start or learn. Is this something that I should go to school for? Good luck with your PS5's, I really hope you get them fixed and bank from them!

    You should try using Thermal Camera to see hot spots on the motherboard that will tell you which component is hot and replace it

    The fact that he has short intros which is about only 15 seconds is superior move of him to do that because everyone likes content like this and because of that even if you watch a long video you would get bored but if you watch tronics videos it doesn't seems boring even if it's a long video. He got some cool video tactics

    Could've tried installing the game to an SSD installed to the PS5's aux slot, or an external USB drive since HZD was PS4 to get a better idea if it was the internal SSD causing it.

    the first ps5 could have a defective RAM chip, and whenever the CPU/GPU try to access the defective region it throws a software exception and it resets.
