About ten years ago my mother suffered from, I believe it was, diverticulitis. Her doctor and her gastroenterologist said, "More fiber." I had read "Fiber Menace" not long before. I was cooking and taking care of her and my dad at the time. I put her on an low fiber as possible, still omnivore. Within a couple of days she had total relief.

I entered the comment section merely to discuss diverticulitis, and my first read was all about it. I had a colonoscopy which reveal diverticulitis, and I too was directed towards fiber. About a year ago, I began consuming two or three times the amount of meat because of other issues. I was after more meat less carbs to try to turn around my insulin issue. Less carbs and more meat removed a lot of fiber. Couldn't have been better for me, and feel the best in my gut as I've ever had. I do eat vegetable in small amount, merely for whole food vitamin.

I have taken care of the elderly as a personal assistant for over 30 years on and off, and as a second or part time job. Doctors always tell them increase your fiber. Even before Carnivore I watched as fiber in my opinion helps to destroy their health. Fiber bloats and then they take med to have a bm. Any nutrition they are getting from their food is being removed everyday. They have massive gas. They don't eat because they already fill full from all this unnecessary crap. As this goes along you can slowly watch them develop dementia and Alzheimer. They get weaker. Their body starts to have pains they never had. Even if you start off the day with a good breakfast say bacon and eggs, well then they are told to eat oatmeal (fiber), drink orange juice and then a cup of coffee. Then add daily medicine afterward. Well I'm here to tell you when this is the breakfast and you follow real juice and oatmeal with a cup of coffee of any kind, then a dose of Milk of Magnesium or something close to it,you have just taken a double or triple laxative and a water relieving cocktail. They will have a BM within the hour and usually will wet themselves and not be able to control their urine. So now they have to wear Depends. If this sounds like someone you know help them to understand what's happening and how to stop it.

My wife recently went to see a cardiologist re some chest pains etc and familial cholesterol... It started with the nurse pushing the 'Mediterranean diet'.. "cut back on beef and pork... essentially cut them out. Cut out butter. Go heavy on vegetables and fish...I'll get you a handout...". Then came the student cardiologist. He mentioned the diet again... emphasizing cutting back on meat.... I was biting my lip the whole time, my anger rising. This is another reason why we have trust issues with the medical industry. These people are at least 10 years out of date and pushing the old lies. The fact that the student enthusiastically endorsed a low meat diet means he was recently taught this. At least when the actual cardiologist came in he didn't mention that stupid diet. In fact he stated, "80% of your cholesterol problem is genetic and 20% what you put in your mouth.

  • @JennifertxCarnivore

Thank you Dr. Baker, another quick informative fact video. I agree that fiber doesn’t help cure constipation- it makes it worse. I had terrible IBS, gas, and constipation when eating any form of fiber, before switching zero carb carnivore. And if on Carnivore- if someone is constipated they are not doing the following possible- not drinking enough water, not getting enough magnesium, or their thyroid is having issues from damage being on a western diet or vegan diet before being on carnivore diet- that damage of thyroid is from natural plant toxins. I have been on the carnivore diet since Sept. Before that, for 6 years I ate broccoli daily, and cabbage maybe twice a week. Over that 6 year time I started to have issues that showed up as thyroid symptoms, such as always feeling cold, eczema, tired, constipation- and those veggies actually messed up my period cycle and started to push me into peri menopause. I had no idea that those cruciferous veggies (broccoli, cabbage) can actually cause damage to your thyroid. You only hear doctors and news say “eat lots of cruciferous veggies to keep you healthy!” FALSE! Why does it mess you up - I learned broccoli and cabbage block your absorption of natural iodine found in foods. And not only did I get those issues listed above, I developed fibrocystic breast - which I feel is an autoimmune issues. The breast needs iodine too and swell if not getting enough iodine - swelling creates masses and cysts. And over time I think leads to breast cancer, PCOS since uterus needs iodine too, and ovarian and uterine cancer. Back to last Sept when I started carnivore and zero carbs (especially no broccoli or cabbage) all those symptoms i listed went away. I do take one drop of 5% lugals in water to make sure I have no deficit still from previous damage of low iodine stores in my chest or thyroid. I know it is there and still healing because if I skip any days without Lugals I start to become constipated. So I know it is that- the thyroid runs how smooth bowl movements function.

Hi Dr. Baker- I hope the topic one day can be on cruciferous veggies and how they are doing more harm then good! They lead to hormone problems, thyroid issues, and I know that’s what gave me fibrocystic issues. Pretty sure it causes PCOS, and leads to breast cancer, thyroid cancer, ovarian cancer, and uterine cancer due to it blocking natural iodine found in foods. All our organs need it, and if they don’t get it they swell. I hope more people find the truth that these cruciferous veggies not only have natural plant toxins, they block natural iodine in foods from being absorbed by your body. I ate broccoli daily for 6 years not knowing it was causing me to get fibrocystic breast “disease” which I think is an autoimmune disorder. People need to stop eating broccoli and cabbage! That’s why so many are getting fibrocystic breast issues! You do searches on line and they all say they don’t know what causes it, maybe estrogen dominance- and guess what- those veggies mess up your hormones! Doctors tell us to eat lots of it not knowing it is causing severe damage to our bodies! I have been on carnivore since sept and I have now shrunk most of my fibrocystic masses. No more cysts either! I also take one drop of 5% lugals to help with my deficit that was ruined from eating a western diet - mostly whole food broccoli with chicken breast diet before doing a Sept carnivore switch. But the fact the fibrocystic masses keep shrinking is a wonderful cure with how cutting that fibrous cruciferous veggie poison out and eating only carnivore diet with meat cures it!!

Hormones again get ruined and it truly can be an additional reason for PCOS, as well as cancers for breasts, cancer and polyps/ fibroids for uterus, and cancer/ fibroids/ polyps on ovaries, and to fibrocystic issues too. Plants have fiber- and we are seeing fiber isn’t healthy but problematic. They can cause PCOS, uterine/ breast/ ovarian cancers- because , all plants are toxic- and completely affect hormones and thyroid. Cruciferous veggies (considered fibrous) do block iodine naturally, the natural iodine found in foods, and that is a double whammy-which also will mess up the hormones with the thyroid. Broccoli, Brussel sprouts, asparagus, cauliflower, all cruciferous veggies blocks that absorption. All our organs need that natural iodine and they swell if they don’t receive it. Lately I have been reading more about our gut microbiome and how important it is for general health and good immunity. One of the oft repeated truisms is to: 1) get more fiber naturally through ingesting more fruit/veggies. 2) make sure you eat a VARIETY of veggies and fruits in order to have/maintain your microbiome and keep it/you happy. This advice is then followed by saying much is now being discovered about how very important the microbiome is to our general health and well-being, followed by declarations of “how much we don’t know…”. How much we’re learning of its importance” and how much we’ve begun to discover about just how important it is. So, when one declares all s/he eats is BBB&E and has found s/he feels great despite no fiber, veggies or fruit, people scoff. They predict a dire future and ugly consequences for that person. So, since I believe that a healthy gut microbiome is important for good health, I DO WONDER whether being fully carnivore (bbb&e plus fish) might be limiting the variety that a person is supplying to have in one’s microbiome, which in the long run, may not be a good thing??? Are there any studies being done on being carnivore and the variety and/or health of one’s microbiome?? Thoughts anyone…?

Gut microbes adapt to one's diet, takes some time, a few weeks. Remember we are not as other primates, human do not have fermentation area (cecum). Worried about bad microbes getting ahead of good microbes, include keifer or other active culture foods. Don't need lots, just a seeding.

I used laxatives daily to clean the bowels at first. Now I rarely use them and stools are finally soft and pass easily. Laxatives help the bowels faster than simply eating fat, this may be due to the fat being used elsewhere. It took only a few weeks of taking laxatives to see the change. Plus, in my head, I felt they helped to rid the colon of toxins faster than waiting for the body to naturally change over.

The story that I heard about fibre goes something like this. A person who may or may not have had medical credentials was on a RELIGIOUS MISSION in Africa. During his time there he decided that he would look at the diets of the natives and what health conditions they may suffer or not. He found (?) a reduced instance of colorectal cancer in his group of natives who had a high fibre mostly vegetable diet. Sounds good don’t it? Did I mention that he was on a religious mission? The issue with people on such missions is that they only look for what they only intend to find which is anything that supports their beliefs. The average life expectancy of that group of natives was about forty five years. This results in most of the people who would likely develop cancer were usually already dead five to twenty years before such cancers normally appear. Meanwhile in a village in the same region where the natives mostly ate meat the instance of cancer was even lower and the average life expectancy was higher.

Interesting! Yes, all things are based on beliefs of some kind or other. We also have the stock market with large corporations whose god is money. They do not care about our health, that is up to us to worry about. Shareholders of these corporations are wealthiest in the world, to our demise. What doesn't hurt us when we are young, catches up to us as we age. And then there's the agenda that all corporations must follow to be rewarded for their sinister efforts. But that's another story.

Fibres are probably good for doing detoxes. I guess it depends on which fibres we are talking about. Perhaps there's good fibres and bad fibres. It'd be interested to see - I don't know Dr. Baker's view on this - if "carnivores" eat protein powders containing fibres especially if they go to the gym, then they diss fibres. I'd also say that if you have digestive problems often fibres worsen the situation only from personal experience. So mix feelings about this one.

I just say that because I believe the Bible to be 100% correct all of the times. See the case of Daniel and his brethren who went on a diet/detox with legumes, lentils etc. which are full of protein and some fibres. After 5-6 weeks they were "shining" compared to the Babylonians. Now, it depends what the Babylonians were eating at the time. I wouldn't be surprised if it was wheat and veggies mostly, who knows... Maybe fibres from grains bad, fibres from some legumes like lentils, good. Food for thoughts ... no pun intended. Maybe food with lot of proteins are the key, not necessarily meat but I'm convinced the carnivore diet can be life-saving for most people.

First, if you rapidly change from any diet to any other diet with substantially different macro ratios, you're asking for trouble. Ideally you should transition slowly over 6-8 weeks, dropping processed food, high carb plants and adding in additional meat slowly, then finally, replacing the remaining plants with (fatty) meat. Second, most people who have constipation issues on carnivore, are not eating enough fat. You should be eating fatty cuts of meat, or adding additional saturated fats (tallow, butter etc.) to your meat. We've been conditioned over several decades to vilify fat, and all to often people new to carnivore, will avoid fatty meats and consume lean beef and lots of chicken, because they're afraid to add in the fat. Then, listen to your body. If your stools are getting too hard to pass, up your fat. If you're suffering from loose stools or diarrhoea, then reduce your fat.
