I love to watch this type of videos; where you take an older vehicle and change all necessary parts to get it back on the road safe and reliable. One thing I would've done differently was to pressure wash the engine/engine bay before I even started sticking my head in there, all and all, great video!!!

Aw man, watching this makes me miss my 01, truck wasn’t perfect at anything but she just went and went. Must’ve done 100 trips Wa to Az pulling 5th wheels for snowbirds and hauled everything in between. She was a dually too but a 4wheeler. It was really a great truck. Keep fresh batts and clean oil in em. And they’ll bring you places.

Nice to see someone build on a budget. I have a disdain for YT channels where everything is "nothing but the best" (and the most expensive). Few build enthusiasts are lucky enough to be able to do that, most of us have to 'settle' for what we can afford.

Nice build. Way to use the old noodle. Another benefit to this set up is Less money for tolls. Up here in the north east they like to charge for every bridge, tunnel or highway and it usually consist of Per axle as far as how much, so now you are only 2 instead of 4. Nice...

I had my late 99 F350 crewcab short bed 4x4 Lariat 7.3 for 21 years. It was my only driver. It was used on a ranch for the first few years of it's life. Then it was just used for towing after that. When I sold it, it was spotless and never saw a salted road so 0 rust or even a door ding. Tips for the new 7.3 owners. First change the oil more often then recomend. Heui systems is affected by poor oil condition. Second the ATS compressor housing is ported so don't get turbo surge under a heavy load up long grades. Third get an Air Dog. The air fuel separator will eliminate the erosion of injectors from the micro air bubbles in the sloshing fuel.

Oh one other thing. There's a mixer assembly in the fuel tank on the sender unit. They are known to split and suck air. There's a fix called "Hutch Mod". You'll want to take a peak at that. Your crack might not be bad enough to effect the way your truck is running.

Ford and those half years. When I build my front axle for my TJ I got a what I thought was a 77 F250 dana 44 but it turned out to be a 1977.5 which changes a lot of things but for the better. Like the shorter stub shafts which allowed for best of all, I could (and did) use the knuckles, spindal, and lockouts from a 1976 bronco to keep it 5 lug for now and for some reason the Yukon Chromos were about 100 cheaper than the non half year.

Can you say "catch can"? Do away with that nasty oil/fuel residue in the intake system. Even N/A engines get that oily residue in the intakes, due to back-pressure in the PCV system. The catch can alleviates that issue/problem by allowing the oil to condense, then "catching" that residue for later disposal. Helps keep your oil from acidifying, as well, because there is also gas residue coming from the crank case (blow-by) in the air that is being filtered by the catch can. Keeps your intake cleaner and makes your oil last longer - win, win!

Colt, as far as turbo balancing goes, the only 3 parts that are relevant to the "balance" is the compressor wheel, the shaft, and the exhaust turbine " the three parts that spin". Putting the compressor wheel back on has to be in the same relevant position to the shaft and the exhaust side turbine, has really nothing to do with the compressor housing. The marks you referenced on the compressor fin and the compressor housing, are put there in a correlative set of marks on the exhaust turbine and the exhaust housing for factory manufacturing reference, when they are reassembling the unit after balancing to ensure that the two wheels are in the same position related to one another.

Would have been better off returning that turbo and ordering a rebuild kit. Then you would have a quality bearing and a quality intake wheel. Also I would use a $30 ipr or $30 icp. There’s a reason the motorcraft ones cost as much as the do. When the ipr goes bad, you’ll be stuck on the side of the road, when the icp goes bad you’ll be spray oil under the hood at up to 3500psi. Iv seen them lose a gallon of oil every 10 minutes. Makes for a long drive home and a couple hundred dollars of oil.

@@LawF250 sure but just like he bought a budget truck, you could have bought a budget trailer. I paid $3300 for my 22ft gooseneck with a truck bed camper on the front. 12ft of open deck behind it. All I need is registration. Sure there’s the added cost if annual maintenance. But a brake job on my trailer cost less than the oil change for a 7.3. My tow rig is a 95 7.3 so Iv very experienced with this engine. So the truck route definitely won’t be the cheaper option. And a regular pick up wouldn’t have been my choice very for a build like this. For around the same price, you could get a obs f-superduty (basically an f450) with a steakbed-flat bed. 12ft-16ft long and most have a lift gate on them that can also add an extra 3 ft of bed length. And can still be used to haul a trailer or a camper. This f350 can no longer use a hitch because it’s behind the dovetail.

I’m seeing a 4x4 swap and 6” lift in this old trucks future.

Did you say T-bag?🤣 The air shocks didn't come with enough line to run out seperate but I agree that having them seperated is better than on 1 line if there was a failure in most cases.👍

Everything you said in relation to the turbo, balancing, compressor wheel and housing (not a snail) is completely wrong. Nice truck tho
