4x4 PTO Driven Timber Trailer BUILD Ep.2 - Tandem Axle

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

4x4 PTO driven timber trailer tandem axle build. Cutting out chain housing parts on the homemade CNC plasma table. Using 6mm S355 steel for the housings. Sprockets and bearings are off-the-shelf parts I ordered from a farmer store. There will be a 100mm chain tensioner sprocket instead of the 210mm drive sprocket I used to illustrate where the chain tensioner is going to be located. Gonna start welding the housings together next week. New video next week if all goes as planned. Stay tuned!
Trailer specs:
* 28x11-14" tires & 14" rims
* 1450mm/57" wide; length and height - unknown
* tandem axles with homemade chain housings
* BMW E39 530D differential with 2.81 gearing (identical to the UTV diffs)
* hydraulic crane with a boom & grapple for easier log loading & handling
* independent hydraulic power pack
* radio controlled hydraulic winch on the boom
* load capacity - 1-1,5 tonne
Stay tuned for the next episode & thanks for watching!

    Nicely planned out. The single idler/tensioner appears to more than doubles the chain engagement to the drive sprocket making it very secure. I’m interested in seeing how you create the tensioner setup now in the confined space that you have.

    Really nice build. A good touch will be to do a couple of threaded holes in the sprockets, so you could attach some screws to help pull it out. As you tested, they come off through the hole, but is a tight fit, not so much room to fingers.

    Making a proper dual differential tank transmission is pretty easy too. Tanks use highly optimized versions, but that's far from the only way to do it. 2 differential axles and chain is enough for the simplest versions.

  • @rolfnilsen6385

    @rolfnilsen6385

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@martylawson1638 Modern tanks left the differential setup many many years ago as far as I know. I served on the Leopard 1 which was designed in 50/60s. It came with an automatic gearbox handling steering and propulsion. It transferred power to the outside track instead of braking the inside track to increase mobility and speed. For homebuilding a braking differential is probably the easiest way to to it as you mentions. Donn did this in his amphibious vehicle build but used a single differential.

    I would also go for 2 chains, even if they wear they are unlikely going to hop teeth. Ive built a lot of different chain driven machines and Im worried... Secondly those bearings arent sealed, theres just steel shields on them which would get all kinds of crap in them, they're cheap, maybe he'll just grease them more often, with something super thick
