Done this a few times, the next time around I’ll weld up a steel post mounted to a concrete base, via adjustable studs, as posts always rot out in my area.

The end result amazes me. The parallels, the watercolors, the joint gaps are accurate, which is a serious challenge with such a large size and weight. Moreover, all this in simple conditions and with tools! Congratulations, use it with pride and health.

i made a metal gate almost identical to yours for a guy and used the same principles with the steel as you did with the wood . It was labor intensive work but the end result is good .

Friend did a similar gate, in two parts meeting in the centre, but I don't think his posts were buried as deep. Consequently high winds shifted the posts. One post was actually bolted into the house wall and it tore the fixings out of the brick work. His gates were completely solid, yours at least have some board gaps which should make them less of a sail in high winds. Plenty of comments on it being overbuilt, but I think I'd rather expend twice the effort overbuilding it once, than having to build it twice.

Great job guys 👌 Another option for posts is digging a minimum 1.2m /4ft deep hole and compacting aggregate around the post.. that way, moisture can escape the posts and stops them rotting out at the base. Also makes replacement easier in the future and is more environmentally friendly than concrete.
