I find it super interesting to see the variation of people in the outdoor community. I see homeless nomads really making do with low voltage rice cookers using them for just about everything and living out of cars with low capacity jackerys then at the other end the 4wd community with all the bells and whistles, gigantic battery setups, inverters and the whole shebang costing an absolute mint in comparison. We share a Subaru outback in our family and made do with two kick ass handy packs that we can charge up on either solar, 240v at home or 12v cig socket and two trangia gas stoves. It was just prohibitively expensive and to be honest silly to put in oversized lithium packs as an aux system. I built a slide out table below the bed mounts in the car to do everything from, but love the option of using a low wattage rice cooker to still be able to cook inside the car if need be if raining etc. The window vents i installed allow for airflow but protect from rain and direct wind. I'm sure this video hit the community mark you're targeting, but I just about fell off my seat at the price tag on those airfryer/oven combos. $500! yikes! Even our fmily Trangia cost just a bit over $100.

Like the idea but the heating unit in an air fryer is a good sized coil, the one in the travel buddy etc is only wire based I believe. But id love an air fryer in that format.

Another great video. Only one point, you cant take your 240V consumption current/ load and assume that is the same DC load on the batteries. Invertors are very inefficient and you are likely drawing 1.3 or even 1.4 times the AC load. Put the tongs on the DC feed and youll see what i mean. cheers Steve

Sweet what a lot less gear to carry for all your cooking oh you are going to enjoy it immensely can't wait for the cooking show and tell and by the way I did change my paj rear wheel bearings with a lot less fuss than you but it did take me 4 hours a side and nearly every tool I had couldn't crack the four bolts in the back until I used my elcheapo wheel nut 12v wrench and it eventually shocked them off still gotta go back and adjust up the hand brake but not in a hurry though = cheers with plenty of beers

I’ve not used my travel buddy since I purchased my air fryer apx 5 or 6 months ago.

I can't find follow up on your Instant mini air fryer. It seemed like a great setup, why are you not going with that now?

Nice work Brett, always looking at something to do more than one job. The only thing I can think of the induction plate would be needed for is maybe boiling up water for coffee or washing up. Have a great Christmas and New year 🥳 hope to see you next year. Adam

I've been keeping my eye out for a little jetboil. i think that would work well. I wont take the induction cooker out just yet until the frier has proven itself. plus it doesnt take up too much room anyway.

Difference between the Air Fryer and the Oven though is more than 10x the power draw, so it should be much faster. Air Fryer Will likely be 1500W+ (yours is 2400W) and the oven is probably 130W so yeah. I just ran my KickAss 12V oven for 100 mins and it used 18.84Ah or 0.14kWh. 159.2W (peak) and 12.06A (peak). Based on that, Oven would use 0.28kWh in 200 min (less because it will cycle on/off whereas in my test just now it took that full 100 min at full power to get to 181°C). Air Fryer will use more power but be much faster. And some things are better in an oven and vice versa. If cooking while driving - oven. If cooking at camp - air fryer.

I'm running 280ah cells and a 3000w inverter in my Paj with a 2400w twin induction cooktop. Works a treat, runs my kitchen air frier non-issue, i also run my sandwich press a bit, cook heaps in a sandwich press.

The renogy has been good so far, it's a big unit, mine is mounted on my Kaon Shelf, I also got a 60amp Renogy charger which can charge at 30 and 60 amps with the flick of a switch. 30 around town and 60 on highway etc. Go with 300 amp fuses, the circuit breakers i tried are rubbish. I got my inspiration from one of your vids then went for it. 0 gauge pure copper cable is also the way to go ! Hydrolic pressed and soldered fittings. Termination is key. The renogy inverter is a bit flimsy, but so far holding up, in sure it will rattle to death at some point.

Is there another review on the ninja. In Hine site I have 400 watts of solar 200 ah 12v battery and 2000w invertor to 120 vac in the states. Did you need the 3000 watt inverter?

I'm an old(ish) industrial electrical mechanic, where power was usually 415vAC, or a lowly 240vAC. It still makes me shake my head whenever anyone blithely mentions 300 Amps 🙂 (yes, I know it's only 12v, but make sure all those connections are tight).

Iv been playing with the idea of a air fryer in my troopy but I can't get past the ease of pre cook before a trip. currently I just pre cook and vac bag all my food before camping and chuck in the freezer. Chuck the bag in boiling water for 10min and it's re heated and comes out just as good as when it was fresh cooked. Nothing like eating slow cooked smoked brisket or ribs out in the middle of no where after a quick 10min re heat.. plus using a gas cooker saves much power, bugger having a induction cooker for just water. I like to save my battery power for the fridge/freezer,portable aircon and tv/computer But cool setup you have don't get me wrong

hey mate, great video thanks. I was just about to buy one when I realised the timer display is up top & wouldn't be viewable when mounted in my canopy. I did a bit of research found out that Aldi, Coles, Spotlight all sold a similar product 12-15 months back with either digital display or a manual knobs & no display. I found a near new Mistral 18L Air Fryer/oven at Cash Converters online for $80 delivered so I've gone down that path. other brands are Stirling (Aldi) & Thomson (Coles), the Aldi version had a digital display but not up top like the Ninja. All versions flipped like the Ninja too.

hey friend , what model is this one ? the one I see and looks the same the specs are saying 1800 watts......if yours is also the same , you are saying that it draws up to 2,4 kWh ? , I ask because my inverter is at 2000 watts and with what I see if I get it right , I will not be able to use it

how would you go with a 200amp lithium how would you have left on battery

if you are glamp camping with a l9ot accessories I would suggest doing both a 240 vac wattage calc and and a dc wattage calc as you may require a min of 4-6 batteries for a 240 vac loading.. especially if each device has a min vac output of 1500 watts or more consumption i suspect you should be running a min of 5000-7500 watt inverter

Hi there, people are telling me we need more battery power for our air fryer that is only 1750W. We’re looking at 200AH LifePo4 battery, 40 A DC/DC charger and 250W solar. Is that enough to power the air fryer?

Hey Nige, it's not that much bigger size why over the 1500w. but it puts a hell of a load on the battery and will require a little supervision for a while i think just to be safe. I'm glad I did the DIY thing but it comes with its own challenges and risks. Not had one of the jaycars, but I nearly ended up with a 2000W when I got the kings. the only thing was I could pick up the kings on the spot when I made the knee jerk decision to grab one. Beyond that, I haven't used on I'm afraid. Enjoy the holidays mate.

I'm running a 2000 W renergy inverter with 200 amp hours of lithium battery from FPV power. I've disconnected one of the elements in the ninja foodie flip and it runs like a dream no issues at all

Hey Shan, did you disconnect one of the top or bottom elements? Any idea what the power usage dropped down to ? How are you finding the unit to clean ? That's my biggest challenge with it ? Also , did you do anything to hold the door closed during travel ? I'm looking for a permanent solution and will likely add a latch but curious what others have done

Hi Dan and Sammy, I am still yet to fit this into the pajero. I have been unsuccessfully searching for some sort of heat barrier to place on top of the unit and between it and the rack. Thank you for reminding me though, as I hadn't looked in a while. I also need to pull the kaon rack out to make the fitment and I must admit my motivation to pull it out just hasn't been there of late. All that said, Ive still been using the smaller unit in the pajero on occasion and have been using the ninja out on the verandah at home just to put it through it's paces to ensure it deserves its spot in the 4wd. so far as has gone well on all counts. the lithium and inverter is all holding its weight and both air fryers are working without issue.

@@DENMONKEY Good to hear, on all accounts. Appreciate reminder for a heat barrier as well- must add to our own list. We've pretty much decided on the purchase at this point, & we're hoping the Ninja is easy enough to clean. It will be used primarily for steaks/burgers/other meats, as that's the bulk of our intake. The last one we had (off brand, much larger) was a great unit, yet horrid to clean. The splattering grease eventually killed off sections of the elements, since no screen or way to avoid that with hot air circulating. Hope to come up w/a way to guard against a repeat, & a smaller unit will surely make for smaller mess- at the very least. Thanks so much for sharing the details as you do~ truly helpful.

@@RV-there-Yet the cleaning part is mostly around the front door. it can sometimes be difficult to remove cooked/greasy food without spilling it and it can get into the doors seals, making it hard to get to for cleaning. the tray underneath the top mesh tray catches most other things to avoid getting anything on the elements. I often use foil or baking paper to help with clean up. I am still somewhat cautious with it for heavy off road use as far as the elements themselves go. but only time will tell that one. I really like being able to lay the food out on the tray rather than the basket type. better for steaks and the like. let me know how you go.

Now, just to do the 4 pie test! Time and overall battery capacity comparison between the air fryer and road chef. If you include the preheat, there might not be to much in it.

I love this innovation! I only got my Prado 150 series last year…..my 1st fourbie Doing mods as I can afford… My next thing was gonna be a 12v oven…. But my research led me to yr channel…. I use my air fryer at home all the time, so love the idea of one as part of my set up….. I currently have a duel battery system & 110w of solar….. So now I need to learn about lithium batteries….. I also have a rear KAON shelf that I could potentially mount this sleek beauty to….. How did you go getting accessories to mount it to these racks?

These are great articles. Is there any chance of you providing a video on the replacement of the very weak horn in the Pajero up to the NX. I was wondering if the wiring is adequate for "plug and play" upgrade or do I need to install another wiring circuit.

Thanks mate. I added an air horn but needed to put in a relay to power the little air unit. Not sure what they pull but it was blowing the fuse each time. No video though.

And yes. You are correct. You don’t need the induction cooktop with one of these air fryer ovens. I own an induction cooktop and I don’t take it with me camping as the air fryer does the lot.

Need lots of power 10% draw per HR. His air fryer needs a 3000 inverter. If you plan using your 12v set up for other appliances especially after dinner you will find in the morning that it will be around 50 to 60% full. That's ok U can draw lithium down to 20%, but it effects the batteries life cycle. Something to think about. If it's a non sunny day following, hard to charge back up. Yes you can start the car or use a generator hmmmm, batteries cost a lot and so does fuel

providing your inverter runs off your battery set up, this is 240v so it only matters what your inverter puts out, not your battery voltage.

Interesting, I own a Taste The Difference Air Roaster Pro air fryer oven. It has a rotisserie etc. awesome for camping as it consumes at 1550 watts when it’s on. And it also cycles on off when it reaches temp which makes it further efficient. I’ve had no problems mounting in my Pajero, but I’m about to upgrade to a upright fridge in my Pajero which means I loose that space where my air roaster pro is mounted. This air fryer oven you have might work for me. However I will greatly miss the rotisserie capability if my air roaster Pro. Plenty room in it to bake a whole cake. However the 1800 watt draw of the one you got is a deal breaker.

Hey Rob, still yet to mounted it yet but have been using it in the house without issue. My friend James has the exact same set up, except he has a kings inverter and has been using it with no problems. The couple of challenges with the unit, its a pain in the back side to keep clean and you need to come up with a solution to keep the front door closed whilst traveling. Beyond that all is good from our end

@@DENMONKEY i went a cheapo to test the concept first, looking forward to getting my hands on the Kickass projector, bit more pricey but having watched one in a mates caravan i think it is worth the money , side note just wired up the compressor via remote as per your earlier video, thanks for the time and effort to make a great video covering the topic.

Excellent video , food for thought to those that have larger lithium set ups. You should take a look at EFFICIENTSELF’s review on the 3000 watt renogy inverter. He has found that it doesn’t support induction loads very well. I think the Kings offerings deliver the ratings stated, 1500 and 3000. The other thing you need to be aware of is you should not expect to support a 3000 watt load on a single 10 amp 240 volt power point. Need to share the load over the 2 power points supplied.

Hey Fred. Thanks mate. That's exactly why I share. Just to give others ideas. I love that aspect of KZread. I've done some initial testing and can confirm the unit successfully runs on both the king's and the renogy 3000w units. I'm seeing approximately 215A draw. With full sun on my solar it comes down to under 200A. I'm looking to improve the solar soon which should be good for roughly another 20-30amps under good conditions of course. I've heard others suggest their units, whilst listed as 3000w were only capable of 1500 per side. That would keep it under that 10A rating per side. The good news is at the 215A even without solar I'm under the 10. Not by much but it's under. The cells themselves have a max discharge of 272A. Id like to stay well away from all of those limits as much as I can. I'm yet to try the induction cooker, but I definitely will as soon as I get the chance. Happy new year Fred.

I know this is an old comment but I just saw this video. Why do you say you shouldn’t expect to run it off a single 240v power point? If someone was using it in their house they would just have it on single point.

@@mj_aussie_coaster_travels8310 the formula for power is volts x amps. So a house circuit rated at 10 amps can only take a total load of 240 volts x 10 amps =2400 watts. In a house you have several 10 amp power circuits that can support a 2400 watt load.. A caravan that is connected to a 15 amp rated supply can only support a total load of 240 volts x 15 amps = 3600 amps. Hope this explains my original comment.

All very good, but...... these Air Fryers are made and designed for domestic use, not for getting "rocked about" on some 4WD track. The Travel Buddy, Road Chef, and others like these, are designed to be simple & robust, to take the riggers of off road travel. I don't think that they would survive off road too long. I will be sticking with my reliable Travel Buddy.

We'll see. I've seen plenty of 12v ovens fail. You're right though but it's only a fan and some heating elements. I'll put it through it's paces and find out. If it dies, I'll report back. But let's also be honest, how often do these 4wds of ours do those tracks that would need it to be more robust? Time will tell.

Haven't made up the brackets just yet but have the materials. Been using it inside though and can't wait to get it in. also picked up some new bus bars for the battery to fit as part of the install.

That's a lot power to run and overtime. I guess if you have 300 ah to use that's fine. No good for my 200ah/2000watt inverter. Time I boiled the jug for a cuppa I probably would have used 20 % and be concerned, especially on an overcast day knowing that my two fridges, night lights, electronics, shower and possible breakfast and lunch to go. No tv tonight. Cheers

That it is, but typically when I'm camping the only thing my battery power will be used for is cooking and at most the 2 fridges which will be full of cold stuff and at night. I usually just have a headlamp for light and dont use much else. so even if I used 50% for cooking I'd still have enough for everything else with no charge for a couple of days. What's pulling power on the shower you have ? just the pump ? Have you joined the induction cooker crew yet :) ?

I also own a Taste The Difference 2 L air fryer I picked up at JB HiFi for $50.00. I’m out camping now and using that air fryer to save on battery. I’m cooking a frozen sausage Roll. Used to take me apx 2 hours to cook in my travel buddy using apx 20 amps. My little air fryer I picked up for $50 takes 20 minutes to cook the same sausage roll from frozen and cooks it a lot better. Consuming the same amps as my Travel Buddy. I know which one I prefer to cook with now. Like I said before. I don’t use my travel buddy anymore.

yup. right there with ya Phil. Don't get me wrong. The little 12v ovens still have their place but if you've moved to lithium and can manage the load, it's a whole new world. I'm getting a bit of flack over having an air fryer in the car but they just won't get any pizza or the like when I'm cooking next. let em wait 2 hours for their pies :)

I can't see myself using it too much when I'm driving like the 12v oven. Since they're pretty quick, I can Chuck it on once I get to camp or an ready to eat.

I have 5 air fryers. Yes, sadly, I do!

I love going camping at a moments notice or take a weekend drive with friends. When this happens I just swing by a supermarket on the way and I'm ready to go without having to load up the vehicle with everything I need. Plus I'm hopeless at forgetting things behind. this stops that, as its always there. That and this isnt my daily driver, so it's set up for its purpse
