This "Bolero" performed in 1994 at the Lillehammer Olympics as their Exhibition program, NOT in 1984 at the Sarajevo Olympics of their gold medal winning Free Dance Program. After 10 years of legendary "Bolero", they came back to the Olympic games and replay the performance. I have uploaded 2 versions of T&D's "Bolero" from the Lillehammer Olympics a 25th anniversary. One is usual video clip, but relatively high quality. The other is very high video quality shot with HD Cameras. Because of different camera angles, these two video clip occur very different impression. The most beautiful ice dances ever done.

It's 40 years since Jayne & Chris unleashed this masterpiece upon the world and Great Britain held its breath. Even now, watching it, is spellbinding and brings a lump to the throat. Much prefer the musical arrangement on this version. More punchy, especially the percussion and is closer to the Ravel original. One of the iconic moments of the 20th Century!

I agree with you, I still get goosebumps rewatching after all this time. I think the news items leading up to the day said we were in for a treat, so I'm glad it fell on my day off and I was able to watch with my family.

Not flawless look at 4:53. Because they are so much in tune and such good athletes they could mask it to a degree. But even the audience could see let alone the jurors.

@@franziskani: Like the great majority of self-appointed "critics", you don't know what you're talking about. There was NOTHING wrong with 4:53. As the music reaches its chaotic finale, he starts to thrash her around, before they both collapse together on the ice. It's a perfect finale. What *the audience could see* was a stunningly beautiful performance -- and there were no "jurors" because it's not a trial, and it wasn't even a competition. (Spare me from talentless nitpickers who smugly try to find fault in others' brilliant performances, while contributing NOTHING of value themselves.)

Torvll and Dean made this ice dance pure magic, in 1984 who they won the gold Yugoslavia, they are the king and queen in ice dancing, then winning the brozen in Lillihammer, Norway, Jane and Christopher decide to skate Bolero for the exhibition it was legendary! Jane Torvll and Christopher Dean are the legends in ice dancing. Now that's a tribute!

I understand that at first they could not fit the music into the limits require for Olympic completion. So by starting the performance with they knees on the ice, they where able to “start the clock” when Torville and Dean started moving across the ice!! Very effective and beautiful!!

So thankful for an HD version of this performance. Wish it was available for the '84. Thank you Mintaka for posting this!

Для меня время все таки изменило акценты. Танец стал проще, а они - милее))). Кристофер вызывает неподдельное восхищение. И при их действительно красивом легком сильно синхронном катании, человеческий фактор для меня выше - они такие свободные, такие счастливые не завися ни от какой конкуренции, такие вот прям короли, что вся эта олимпиада как один из балов где они просто блистают! Это очень круто! Очень достойно!

Я в своё время испытала культурный шок от этого танца. Постоянное сплетение тел. В то время не было возможности включить повтор. А хотелось смотреть и смотреть , это было как чудо. Новая для всех хореография. Это самая лучшая постановка на Болеро Равеля .

Да. Танцы, по сути, не изменились кардинально (если не сказать, что ухудшились в связи с новыми правилами, больше смахивающими на бухгалтеские). Что касается, этого выступления, то есть другая запись. На мой вкус, там камера стоит лучше, а оператор понимает, что не нужно в этом танце с таким идеальным легато (у фигуристов это называется владением коньком, если ничего не путаю), на котором, собственно, все и выстроено, особо на крупный план переключаться.: kzread.info/dash/bejne/d2yjxLedqNG6nMY.html

Today they are all graded on the same elements and there is very little difference between them. Torvill and Dean skate much closer together and their movements seem much more intricate, certainly more interesting.
