The Orrido di Bellano is a waterfall located in a gorge in the municipality of Bellano (LC).
The natural gorge was formed 15 million years ago, due to the erosion of the waters of the Pioverna stream which, sculpting the valley floor, dug an ever narrower and deeper furrow that from Taceno reaches the Lario.
During the Quaternary glaciations, that is, in the interglacial periods, a lake was formed in Valsassina whose waters precipitated into the Val Muggiasca and into the Orrido due to the thawing of the ice. Probably the lake emptied completely through openings to reunite with that of Como, eroding the territory and forming deep gorges.
