The Ernest Hemingway House was the residence of American writer Ernest Hemingway in the 1930s. The house is situated on the island of Key West in Florida. It is at 907 Whitehead Street, across from the Key West Lighthouse, close to the southern coast of the island. Due to its association with Hemingway, the property is the most popular tourist attraction in Key West. It is also famous for its large population of so-called Hemingway cats, many of which are polydactyl.

I was there 50 years ago it was beautiful then too😊 and crawling with six toed cats. All related to each other. It was less a musium,but more home like, there were two old ladies, maintaining the place, and feeding the 🐱s they had known. Hemingway and worked for him as housekeepers they told us he had set up a fund to keep them employed and to take care of the house and cats, which he loved. What a great guy he must have been!😊 not only a great writer!

Do they let you walk around without the tour guide? I went back in 2021 and you had to stay with the tour guide the entire time. When I went in 2019 you could stay after and pets the cats as long as you would like

Yeah, you don’t have to use a tour guide but you can’t be in the same room with a guided tour if you opt out.
