    Remembering my days on analogue OB trucks which were three times the size with 20% of the capability. So much care has gone into installation and above all design. Built by production folks for folks in production. Be proud.

    Ryan - I've watched all the videos on this build and wanted to say thanks - really decent and genuinley useful content. Can I ask for a follow up on some of the less exciting gear content. You showed the looming and 'connectoring' stuff, and it was pretty neat and wll thought through, and you even mentioned the spreadsheets. Over the years I've used loads of different connectors and cables, but I'd really appreciate knowing your brand and type sources for the mundane stuff like the ethernet connectors and the BNCs - I note you had thick/thin cable types and all appeared to be cut to length and neat. My 'connectoring' is always a weak link for me despite being pretty ancient now. The correct tools and dies I never standardised - how you did the cabling would be really useful stuff for a video. Thanks Paul

    This is outstanding! Thank you for sharing this finished walkthrough! I’m wondering how you got into this line of work to design OBs/MPUs..? Education/qualifications? Experience to start with…? For the exterior fold out door to access all the patch bays, seems like when closed that door would be pretty close up to the fans and could potentially cause overheating issues…? Lol at the random shot of the spider (@8:00)

  • @RyanSomerfield

    @RyanSomerfield

    Жыл бұрын

    Haha totally didn’t notice the spider.. glad you enjoyed! It’s a great question about how I got into this line.. I kind of stumbled into it, I have worked in OBs/MPUs for 15 odd years in a variety of different roles. Done a lot of work with churches who are always looking for affordable ways to get nice results, did a bunch of work with some churches designing systems and a bunch of trial and error, worked with most of our tv stations here from camera to tech to directing etc so have a reasonable knowledge in most areas which helps to do systems with a wholistic view. But yeah no qualifications to my name, just lots of research and experience really. Cooling has been a bit fun.. but client plans to put in a split system in the back of the rack to keep it cool, luckily we are just getting out of winter here but for summer something will be needed

    I just watched your livestream. Interesting. But there are some open questions about different things. Would it be possible to publish an equipment list? The pictures of your phone are often very blurry to recognize it all.

    amazing work. I have a question on the electrical wiring. I am in the process of building a similar rig using blackmagic. The US system uses a 110-120v 60hz, and i intend to send the van to Southern Africa where a 220v 50hz is being used, will the components work?. im no electrician and have zero clue.

    Most items will work with all voltage ranges, but it’s definitely worth checking everything first! Some devices have switches or only work with 1 or the other, but I think from memory everything in this trailer will work with either, and everything should have a sticker showing what it supports or on the spec sheets. You will need to look into circuit loading as there is more available with 240 volts vs 110.. hope that helps!

    What is your solution for rain? All patchbays seem to close completly without any cableholes or anything similar.

  • @yrurdt3

    I haven’t ever really gotten to do much with fiber.. how does the fiber tactical cable break out once it reaches a stage box or the trailer. You said it was 12 core so does it have 12 individual fiber connections that break out like a audio snake?

  • @RyanSomerfield

    @RyanSomerfield

    Жыл бұрын

    Good question, so on each end is 12 cores of LC, that splits up into 5x tx of the sdi to fiber converters and 5x RX then the final 2 go to each of the network switches using bidi 10gbe SFP+ modules. Audio runs over Dante on those networks. Hope that helps!

    why do you have 2 videohub 40? And how are they connected? It seams a little bit useless but there is a good reason for sure. Maybe you can explain?!

  • @RyanSomerfield

    @RyanSomerfield

    Жыл бұрын

    Good question, we originally wanted a 64x64 but there was no stock available, so 2x 40s ended up being the next best thing, essentially it’s a glorified DA for outputs, they have been split by inboard and outboard destinations, so one is for everything inside the trailer (monitors etc) and the other is all external patching, stage boxes and records etc. the 24 outputs from the constellation have been split evenly between the 2 routers as well as some cross patching if needed, just makes sending what you want wherever you need super convenient!

    @@RyanSomerfield maybe you can make a video explaining that, just for example, to understand, what kind of signals are where and why or you have a sheet, uploaded in your community area of youtube? I helps to understand your signalrouting and why you did that that way.
