Turpan has the most abundant, most distinctive and oldest earthen buildings and their architectural art in Xinjiang. The buildings themselves are the carriers of local culture. The earthen buildings here are of various types, which contain the richest and most profound local cultural connotations, and have significant regional and ethnic characteristics. The Huicheng Historical and Cultural Block is a collection of local earthen buildings.
The "Huicheng" block records the changes in Turpan over the past 145 years. It is a concentrated embodiment of Turpan's original appearance, and is a collection of Turpan's regional ethnic culture, religious culture, architectural culture, folk culture, and karez culture. It can be said that Turpan's "Huicheng" historical block is a traditional historical block with typical ancient Western Region characteristics and intact style preserved in the whole Xinjiang.
The "Huicheng" block is within the scope of the original site of the old city wall, and it develops naturally. The texture of the streets and alleys is naturally rich, and the spatial scale has the typical characteristics of traditional Western Region dwellings. The main architectural style of the block is the original ecological earthen buildings unique to the Turpan area. After a hundred years of wind and rain, it is still habitable. In addition, the block still retains buildings of different periods, including the Central Plains style, Russian style, Soviet style after the founding of the People's Republic of China, and Chinese style. The existing residential buildings also have typical multi-ethnic characteristics of Uyghur style, Hui style, and Central Plains style. Some street and alley residential buildings still have karez underground canals in use. This is one of the few karez life in Turpan. Turpan Hui City is a rich treasure house of folk art and architectural art.
