4G63 Turbo Engine Tear Down : Mitzi’s Engine Disassembly Episode 3

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

This is my 4G63 Turbo out of my 1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse GST I names “Mitzi”. This engine had a 199,413 miles when it locked up. It was mostly stock except for intake intercooler, piping, and exhaust. The turbo was regrettably upgraded to a 14B turbo that over boosted. In my last video I showed you the worn rod bearings and in this video I will look for more damage and tear it down for machining. Damn those bearings got smoked. We just ripped apart a 6 bolt from over boost and it just blew out a section of head gasket about 1in long. One bearing was damaged but the rest looked fine.

I always just loosen the water pump pulley bolts with the accessories on and tight, easiest way to do it.

Yeah, you are right. I tried that first. And belt was so old and hard it had no traction. The pulley just spun. I might have been able to tighten. Thanks for the comment. That should be in a how to video. I tried to make my video a how I did it.

Nice vid, bro. I liked it. I got to see what the intake manifold looks like. Im still puzzled how it can be modified to fit my 4G69 since a 4G63's TB to is left and 4G69's is to the right. But i think they mean Evo's 4G63 intake manifold. Oh yeah, on a side note. I didnt buy that 2G we talked about a long time ago. It still sits there with tall grass all around it.

Thanks, Yeah sounded like the guy didn't know how much work the car is going requires. If he still has it and you are willing to rebuild anything it wouldn't hurt to offer the 1K again. lol. I'd only jump on a 4G63 though with a good or factory turbo. The intake on a 4g69 would need a EVO 4G63 you are correct. With those two intakes you could put a 4G63 top end in a lot of configurations.

@@jus10dun I will this summer. But would you take 1k for a two door Evo 3 with just a broken intercooler pipe? I heard the 4G69 intake hurts top end and that's why I would need a 4G63 intake. That and a camshaft upgrade. That would put me at around 205whp. But a cam upgrade isnt just a cam swap. I think I would need to upgrade valves, springs and some other head work to match the new cam upgrade. Im willing to do that just need more practice tearing down an engine.

Sparda D'Mon with that type of work ahead of you I’d weight all the pros and cons of the car, engine, and needed upgrades. If you love the chassis and you can get your goal then it might be worth it. But otherwise it doesn’t sound like rebuilding the head and putting the time and money to make those parts work it may be better to get another car with more potential like the 4g63 with a power increase with more boost and fuel. But I love unique builds.

Thanks for the comment, bro. Most eclipses don’t work. But it’s just a lack of maintenance and time lol. I was hoping to get enough visuals and in the right order you could follow it and learn from mistakes. Once the motor is running I’ll be able to show you how bad I got it wrong. Let me know what you think of the others. If there is anything that would make it more helpful to you.

I go over the mileage in my engine locked up video. I said it wrong though. It was 199,800ish. Rebuilt head at 199,413 and drove it hard low on oil. Stacked a bearing. kzread.info/dash/bejne/eYFmz8mGZ8iocsY.html
