4G63 vs 4G64: Which One is Better?

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Article: dustrunnersauto.com/4g63-vs-4...
If you were to look at this from a high level and answer the question of which one is better, the 4G63 or 4G64, it really depends on the specifics. If you're looking at N/A engines, the extra of the 4G64 is great for low-end torque and drivability, but if you're looking at forced induction engines, 4G63T is obviously the answer.
If you're talking about modified engines and which one is better to build for your street car, it's pretty common to see a 4G64 with a 4G63T head and turbo setup, because buying a 4G64 engine is quite a bit cheaper than buying a full 4G63T engine. At the same time, a 4G63T head is pretty expensive, so some people just resort to build a DOHC 4G64 with a turbo strapped to it.

    I had both engines(dohc 4g64t) in my mirage and I can tell you hands down driving a round town and highway passing the 4g64t is superior. I went from the 2.4t to the 2.0t and immediately I felt a lose of lowend and midrange power. There really is no replacement for displacement. I still have a spare 4g64 crank lying around and when the 2.0 blows I will be building a 2.3 stroker

    Or a adversely, a 4g69. Which is 2.4L like the 4g64 but has the same deck height as a 4g63 meaning you can run stock 4g63 dohc head and timing belt. It has the same 150mm rods as a 4g63 but 100mm crank like a 4g64. If you want a built version use any forged H/I beam 150mm 4g63 rods and something like wiseco's k627m875ap piston for correct comp height and 2404cc😉

    You forgot that Kia and Hyundai also used both the 4g63 and the 4g64 engine's. They also used the 1.6L and 1.8L 4g family engine's. The 1.6L cylinder head flows better than the 4g63 because the ports are much larger plus the valves aswell. They all use the 85mm bore the 1.6L the 1.8L and the 2.0L engine's. You can also swap the 1.6L cylinder head onto a 4g64 block. You can also run the 4g63 evo 8 or eco 9 cylinder head on a srt4 block because it is a variant of the 4g64 block.

  • @MegaBuster777

    @MegaBuster777

    4 жыл бұрын

    SRT4's use a Chrysler engine. The heads will NOT swap over. It's like the Mitsubishi g54b and the Mazda G6 engine. The G6 you could say is based on the g54b, but with another intake valve per cylinder offering potentially better flow than the hemi 2 valve per cylinder engine with the side effect of higher static compression. This is a case of 2 engines being similar, but they were intentionally made incompatible between manufacturers. It's true the Hyundai engines are compatible, but that's because Hyundai got the same exact designs of those Mitsubishi engines from Mitsubishi. It wasn't like before with Mitsubishi giving Mazda the G54b carb'd engines for their early b2600 pickups, but they gave them the means to make exact copies.

    I've never experienced a 4g63, but my mother-in-law has a 4g64 in her '03 galant. To say that it's a reliable engine is an understatement (some of the things she's gone through would make a Toyota, dare I say it, throw codes, lol), and a pretty gutless engine in all honesty. My question is how many miles can it typically run before a rebuild? She's currently got 205k on the odometer and has lately been throwing codes for the O2 sensors (fixed), EGR (working on it), and just other little things including oil in the sparkplugs wells (I'm thinking on replacing the valve cover gasket). She's a good little engine, I'd like to see her hit 250k before she's done done. Thanks in advance :)

    Shame there’s no stock size rods or pistons or I would have made a 2.3L. But I’m going with a 2.0L long rod as there’s no stock size in stock for months. Aiming for 500-600hp. If anyone knows what’s the best turbo for very little lag that would be good. So far I’m thinking g25 660

    The common consensus was if you had a higher displacement 2.3 or 2.4 you will end up braking gears and such from the added torque load [on a stock transmission] or if you went 2.1 destroker you won't be able to shift and you end up messing up synchronizers, because they were not designed to shift at 11k rpm+ lol so ether way you look at it you will want to upgrade to ether a dog box or let off in between gears or both, and it is easy to mention it here, but in the heat of a race situation that goes out the window doors and hood vent and you find yourself picking up transmission internals thankfully this has not been me yet lol.

    @skippysvr4586

    Clutch selection has more of an effect on shifting than displacement. A twin disc loves 10'000 rpm. Dogbox is needed when you start breaking gears every other pass.

    Dont forget about rod ratio, 4g63T stock is close to a 1.7 ( with 150mm rods and stock crank and pistons, this can be changed depending what rods are used IE: 156mm rods and stoker pistons (6mm shorter than stock) for a 1.77 rod ratio) and the 4g64 and stoker 4g63( 2.3) has a rod ratio of 1.5. Rod ratio will play a role in building a high HP and reliable engine.

  • @neverstopushing3638

    2 жыл бұрын

    I know this was two months ago but if you gap the piston rings, just like how they do on modern dodge v8s, it could handle about 20 pounds of boost. however, a forged piston and conrod kit are really cheap. i can give you a slight build sheet in which you would be spending south of 4k, to have the ability to make 450 to the wheels reliably.

    Yes you can - believe it or not the compression ratio isn't all THAT much higher. With proper tuning and knock management, you CAN safely run 12psi on the stock SOHC 4g64 engine internals. The weakness in its stock form comes from its junk factory pistons and, in regards to say the 2g DSM 4g64, the ECU (didn't have a knock sensor).

I'm building one crazy hidden party popper on my Ralliart Lancer... 1st Rotrex Supeecharged on the serpentine directly... my tuner said We're in for some nasty trouble... I like that! Over twice the air mg per cylinder limit at 3500 rpm lol... on full potential of the blower We're looking at 20psi and probably over 500whp hahahahah!

    The 4G69 the biggest engine of the Sirius family of engine is also a good engine swap candidate since it also a 2.4L engine, many have built Frankenstein Evo engines with the 4G69 and 4G63 heads and make butt loads of power and tons of torque due to the longer stroke. it goes without saying the bottom end and gaskets and head studs are beefed up to handle the addition of the turbo charger the 4G6x family of engine mostly used for drag application and in the famous HKS CT230 Evo Time attack Monster
