    This guy is wonderful to watch. So steady and the wheel sound is relaxing. I favorited his etsy page just on principle.

    i love how your home-made trimming tools usually push the clay ribbons away from the piece as you trim :) I've actually made some of my own by watching your video

    Thank you for all the great videos. I wish I had seen this before making my first large plate. I neglected to put in a middle support and unfortunately the plate warped slightly during glaze firing.

    @js74858 There was not any special drying process I took for this platter. It's winter time and the weather is not so hot. If you are worry about the rim drying too fast, you could wrap the rim with plastic bag when the rim is firm enough after half day.

    @SharJoyC Ya, I have worked with kick wheel. There is not any different from electric wheel except for having good exercise. I'd said the hard part must be centering, but after that shouldn't be any difference.

    Wow, Beautiful! Thank you always for such clear detailed instructions! Do you, or have you ever worked with a kick wheel? That is all I have and am considering a motor attachment. I do love it, but there are limitations.

    thank you so much for posting these videos. i've developed much just from watching your demonstrations. it sounds like some of the trimmings splashed when you dropped them off camera. do you use them to make slip for throwing later? also, i'm very curious what type of clay body you use. i've been trying to find a porcelain that can support itself on the wheel without slumping too much.

    That clay trims beautifully, is there a specific brand you buy?

    Hi Hsin, I was wondering if maybe you could do a video making something called a double veggie bowl.( I watched a video on here by another potter, and he made it). Essentially is it to bowls side by side and a handle cut out in the middle. I was wondering maybe you could do the same but add your own little twist to it maybe put some chattering on the bowls then attach them. Anyways, thanks for videos and keep up the amazing work !!!

    Hello again. I always come back to your videos for your calm attention to every detail. Can I ask f you can remember how much clay you used for this platter? It looks like maybe 5 lbs?

    I don’t remember but you can search my recent videos on making platters in 3 lb, 7 lb, 11lb, and 16 lb and compare with this one to get an idea.

    Master Lin, I am going to throw my first platter tomorrow. I have a question for you about drying. Do you speed up your drying by the torch or heat gun on a platter or just let it air dry? I know you probably could dry yours in the in the kiln. I could not do that. If you do speed dry it, I would imagine that you might have to concentrate on drying the base more then the outer part. is this correct? Thank you for your help!

    How do you know how much you can cut off the bottom?

  • @hsinchuen

    @hsinchuen

    There is a way for experienced potter by knocking the bottom to tell how thick it is. I also have a ruler to check the thickness of the bottom.

    Have you ever ate off a standard white ceramic plate before? Yes? You probably won't die eating off porcelain then. But just because the clay is safe doesn't mean it's safe to eat off of. Glazes with lead in it, should probably be avoided.
