48 Hours Exploring and Fishing Long Island (the dog days)

The hardest I've ever had to work to catch a fish. 48 hours grinding the East End of Long Island, fishing both the North and South shores as I begin my trek to New England.

It’s a night bite that time of year in those spots. The scenery never gets old in Montauk. Keep exploring.

Great video. I dive at hortons point all the time. Where was the third spot? With the coral reef looking rock i want to snorkel it. And what was the light house in the thumb nail orient state park?

Brother this time of year you gotta switch to the lighter gear. Medium Rod at least, the Fly gear even better sometimes. Hitting those lower water columns is the way. But even with that I have had many of those dog days also. Great enthusiasm and "sticktoitouvness"! Thanks for taking us along!

You fished in my backyard. August is definitely a challenge in these waters. Best bet for stripers is at night that time of year but that is tough to get on video . If you get a chance to come back in August and you are fishing from the beach you should target fluke, you may do much better. Good luck and tight lines!

I drove all the way out to that park (Orient Point) from Northern NJ on a hot & sunny summer day last year, probably around the time you went, only to be told the park just closed because of lightning in the area. I ended up sneaking to another park of the park only to be found again. However I ended up going to "The Point" proper and enjoyed a never ending schoolie size striper blitz. Somehow only caught 1 fish cus they were so keyed in on the small bait but it made the trip worth it.

Once I caught a 30” stripper right off the beach there at the light house on a fly rod, the stripper was just a few feet from shore pushing bait up and on my second cast in knee deep water I hooked up..later a drunken Japanese guy name James chased us down the beach with a Bowie knife..lol..
