Dude I LOVE having a manual pick up but I have no clue how to drive a twin stick. My dad never had anything manual aside from His 69 Camaro and now my 06 GMC. I love the look of whats happenin here I just have no clue what it is

We had a 1967 GMC CABOVER truck in the company fleet at the steel ship door factory I worked in in 1979 , and it had a 5 & a 4 speed twin stick transmission setup in it with 6-71 Detroit power. And YES I did learn to drive that beast , just like this guy in the video . We definitely were ( and still Are ) REAL MEN …..!!! Very interesting to be driving a loaded semi truck with one arm through the spokes of the steering wheel while in a turn at speed simultaneously either upshifting and downshifting the twin sticks or vice versa…. Definitely takes full attention to accomplish successfully.

Yeah it's quite simple. It's just difficult to be good and efficient with the gears. You don't need to use all of them for certain road and weight conditions. I.E. g5/4 to g6/2 for flat terrain but g5/4 to g6/1 for moderate up hill. The rpms are a little picky on these old engines.

I drove a 453T back in the 70’s when I got started in Business, I have a first love for it. 👍👍💯🇺🇸

For those not aware, the lever with the green knob is the "splitter" or overdrive. The stick closest to the dash are the actual transmission shifter. He only needs to move the transmission shifter occasionally, as once he selects that gear, he is using the splitter to split the range on that individual gear turning it into several gears on top of the one. Think of it like a ten-speed bike. The gears next to the pedals are the transmission and there are say two rings (so two gears) then at your real wheel there are five rings (five over/under drives or split gears) you start in the easiest (lowest gear) and shift the rear gears until you build up speed, then when you have topped that out you shift the transmission (the gears next to the pedals), move the rear gears back to the lowest one, and start the process all over again. working back up through the rear gears. You can also downshift in reverse order.

Alright, there you go! We have a vehicle in common. Mine is single stick, but that stick is protruding from the 'tree.' And someone robbed the 300 and stuck a 240 in its place...

Reminds me of the old FIAT trucks of the 1950s , 1960s and 1970s, with eight speeds and double levers: four high speeds and four low . Truck drivers back then had to have great skills and an even greater ear to catch the right revs by listening the “ sound “ of the engine .

This would be so much fun to learn

18 speeds nothing to shift once you understand the basic concept. All they are is a 9 speed with a two speed splitter section on the back, so you have two air split gears in each manually shifted gear.

I'm startin to lean that way myself instead of a 12v cummins for my 86 chevy 3+3 dually. My grandpa always said there was something about a Detroit and u could always tell if it was a Detroit.

I’d like to build a F350 or old GM C30 with a 4-53. As a kid my family had a trucking company. The pair of GMC C60 straight vans had them. Of course the tractors all had 71 series.

They NEVER made them.. that is a custom build ..

Those crawl gears weren't necessary at tgat time and that two hander was just flare lol but this is an actual two stick trans and that guy actually knows how to run it.
