I had 5 hours of driving it on a motorway whilst the 45k Hendrickson walking beam beat the crap out of me, but the sound of that 2 stroke made it worthwhile

I worked at a grocery warehouse in the mid 80s the company drove these trucks in the ground. From newer road worthy to hoodless bald tire yard spotting trucks. They were 6v71s day cabs no exhaust. Imagine 25 to 30 jamming gears 24/7. This company recapped their own tires a bone yard full of trucks. Not one pc went to waste. Not sure if they are still in business. Id say the name would be problem in today's woke world... WINN-DIXIE 😊

Those trucks can turn pretty sharp. We had a bunch of these for concrete mixer trucks. White had a truck close to this same model. Trucks were tough back then.

And to think the Mack V8 gave way to the Scania V8 in the late 60's. Another iconic diesel V8

I learned on a silver 92 and 13 speed in a Western Star. Quick, powerful, and rather quiet with turbo and twin stacks. Cummins was boring after that.

It's a V8 and it's 92 cubic inches per cylinder it probably has a supercharger with a turbo that feeds it, used to operate an old heister that had a 6V53 in it

It's a 2 stroke so it has to have a blower (not supercharger) the blower is required to evacuate the cylinders. But this is a single turbo model.....450hp version I think

All the two cycle Detroits with turbos had bypass blowers. They all needed the supercharger to start up. But they started easily in the winter ❄️ unlike the Cummins Big Cans.

Even in normally aspirated form (without a turbo) all 2-stroke Detroits needed a supercharger (rather, a BLOWER as GM called it) in order to run, and to facilitate the compression stroke, which is the first stroke, successfully. In fact, all 2-stroke diesels, regardless of the manufacturer, need a supercharger.

I sold it to a local guy. But the money will go towards doing the Kenworth and 3408 up I've still got to put the other truck back together so I'll get one last drive of it

I know a fella up Wisconsin that can tune that ole Detroit and it dont smoke..thats how you can tell if she did right,that is mostly unburned fuel you see puffing out the stacks

It's a single turbo, turbo isn't in the best shape though....and the exhaust system is a bit janky
