As the sone of a 45 commando boot-neck there is just one word to say about these men and that is "PERFECTION"

We were ordered to double march thru Plymouth with FSMO ,that’s including kitbags. Big packs, small packs etc for turning up drunk for a night cliff climb 😂

army commandos, guards are traditionally attached to the paras when completing p coy (guards para platoon within 3Para)

Short but sweet- great to watch. Smart looking RM troops IMO- plus their Service Dress looks a hell of a lot better then what I presume were Army personal wearing a sort of khaki. Wish they had kept the SLR for ceremonial use. Thumbs up to the Royal Marines.

The Army service dress is nice too, I think the reason it looks bad in this is because they're so obviously out of place in a sea of green.

When did the Royals have their knee joints removed? I can’t say I have seen this stuff legged marching style before.

The musicians usually march in the navy blue dress uniform with a pith helmet. The Commandos either wear the formal blue dress uniform with a white cap with a red band or as here their lovat green uniforms and green berets, depending on the occasion.

Only the first two companies are parading with bayonet fixed rifle and carrying sword. The RSM is traditionally at the end of that company. The company afterwards does not carry rifles nor swords as it's not the colour-guarding company in this regard

The Colour is only 'let fly' during a march past in quick time, as a type of salute, or in battles. Marching through a town is not a battlefield so the Colour is nicely restrained, indicating the formation is not in battle formation.

'A Life on the Ocean Wave' is still the RM, as a whole, march past tune. 'Sarah Marais' is specifically the march past of the Royal Marine Commandos. Not all Marines are commando trained. For example, most members of the band won't be. They will do basic infantry and small arms training but not the Commando course. So the band played 'A Life on the Ocean Wave' to announce the RMs in general, then switched to 'Sarais Marais' for the RM Commandos who were marching behind them.

The little fat Corporal right at the end nearest camera ( 2nd shortest one in parade ) ..........same dude off of the RM Commando training school programme on Channel.4 a long way's back ???

@@williammohan9784 Thats very overblown, Arbroath is a very small town and 45 commando are stationed there. The vast majority of people in Scotland are still supportive of the British military, and despite nationalist politics only a small vocal minority are the type of 1314/irish republican blood and soil nat that would say the Union Jack is the butchers apron. Arbroath itself is part of a pretty unionist area anyway, so the nationalist angle doesnt really apply there compared to say, Dundee or something.

The Royal Marines Commandos are all wearing the same lovat green uniform. The other ones are attached army commandos, sailors etc.

No they're not. Learn some actual history before you spout off. They're the 'senior naval service' a distinction which existed when our ships operated in the far east and faced competition for berths and vittals from the East India Trading Co (and others) hence a law was passed giving them priority as the senior naval service. The phrase has then been corrupted to mean they are the oldest service (which they are) but in terms of marching priority and order of precedcmence on parades there are loads of other crazy historical factors to consider.

Everyone hates Dl's but when your on a parade in lovats or Blues they're your best oppo, willing you along! 👍
