They haven't been the best army in the world for a couple of centuries. They were good in WW2 but their decline since then has been precipitous.

Its not a basic requirement to be a Prime Minister to have seen military combat. But I suspect he has fought many battles on his way to becoming Prime Minister. Sometimes the hardest battles are not military.

@@derf9465 Oh I have done my bit and loaded weapons that have killed people and I have to live with that. But I guess my comment was too subtle for you as you are like the OP and locked into this idea a 'battle' has to be fought with weapons. So let me explain: Some people who have never picked up a weapon have been in a battle some of, if not all of, their lives. Like people with MND, long term cancer, deafness, depression, mental illness, blindness or other major disabilities. They fight battles every day that an SA80 would be of no use whatsoever. Battles that clearly you have NO idea about.

Britain is the best trained army/navy in the world, the only problem is we are a small country and have 100-150 thousand active troops If we was even half as big as the usa or Russia no one could compete, simple as that!
