434: Dreaming about a Seahawks offensive explosion

Спорт

Seahawks OTAs wrapped up this week and we had a chance to hear from a few players on offense, as well as our new offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb. We heard a consistent message from players like Geno Smith, Pharoah Brown and Sam Howell about the offense being "quarterback friendly" which translates into a lot of downfield throws. But Grubb's message was a little bit different in talking about play action and having to adjust from the college to the professional game. Can both these things be true or is something missing?
We also picked up on a trait that stands out from Coach Grubb in his transition from college to the NFL. It's a personality trait that a lot of the failed college coaches don't seem to have. We learned this week that head coach Mike Macdonald has dreams about some of his Seahawks players, and he made a tactical decision to avoid naming names. Jay Harbaugh talked extensively about the new kick off rule and we're here to talk about the highlights (we may even want to talk about this more on future shows).
In the second half of the show, we have an announcement regarding the games we plan to meet up with the Flock at during the 2024 season. We're looking at going to at least one road game and one home game. We call out a writer at CBS for a trade strategy that doesn't make much sense for the 2024 season and a national chain for randomly inserting themselves into random transactions. Better at life honors go out to a GPS company and for a moment from Mike Macdonald that made us say, "That's our coach!"

I appreciate that the answers and how the coaches address questions are measured and thoughtful. They are straightforward but don’t give run of the mill bs takes.

Last year was a big year for defenses which is rare. I think this Seahawks team will be a good one because we have better schemes on both sides of the ball. Defense will have its time to step up throughout the season but the offense should be able to keep every game close. Its a team effort and this team just has new life to it, they will achieve more where Pete couldnt his last few years. Should be a borderline playoff caliber team, and if theres 32 teams, we could be top 16.

We will see how it comes together, but having new schemes, a coaching staff that has attention to detail, and a blank slate of expectations is a positive thing as a hawks fan. Whether it works out is up in the air and needs to be proven. But man is it nice to at least hope that we get a different product on the field than what we’ve gotten apathetic towards.

Good to hear you guys are enthused about the new coaching staff. The energy they all bring is on another level from the previous staff and I'm really pulling for these guys but as a Brit especially AD, also love that he's a fellow West Ham supporter! Oh and Adam he does not sound like an Aussie!! 😃That was one of the weirdest things I heard on previous trips to Seattle that I was from Australia. Even had a couple in the hotel lift (elevator) telling me that I was from Oz, despite the fact I told them I was not, that I'm from the UK near London, where they responded with why was I saying that when it's obvious I'm from Oz and they left the lift in a huff that I would dare say I was from the UK! Clearly I'm mistaken and my life in the UK is all imaginary and I'm really born and bread in Oz.....not! LOL 😆 Regarding the identity of this team, all this speculation really means nothing until we see them play, we can only guess at what they will look like. Whatever they materialize into I'm looking at overall improvement, players being put in better positions and opportunities to maximise their talents. Which from hearing the coaches speak is what they are looking to do. I believe we may need to be patient but more than happy to do this. I can't remember being this positive about a new season, not that I think we are Superbowl bound, just the possibility that this team will move forward from the last few seasons where in my opinion they underperformed given the talent this team possess. Who knows, they may even hit the ground running and if they do who knows where that could take them? I don't think that will happen but we never know. Patience for me and anything else is a bonus.

Last year was a big year for defenses which is rare. I think this Seahawks team will be a good one because we have better schemes on both sides of the ball, plus offenses around the league should have their bounce back year, QBs will have better numbers across the board this year than they did last year (hopefully). If offense is up around the league, Gives the Seahawks a better chance that we will also have a great offense. Defense will have its time to step up throughout the season but the offense should be able to keep every game close. Its a team effort and this team just has new life to it, they will achieve more where Pete couldnt his last few years. Should be a borderline playoff caliber team, and if theres 32 teams, we could be top 16.

I hope things go well, considering how many people talk about this new system being installed here in Seattle. So how many more teams are going to copycat based on all the information on the system being put in the own for all NFL to know before the season even starts.
