I've been watching a few of these matches that were suggested in my feed. I'm amazed at just how fierce these young ladies are. For their size, they are strong athletes.

well strength of proteins is static and doesnt scale with size, this makes smaller creatures have more relative strength, that's why you see a 20kg kid carrying around a 10kg kid without breaking a sweat for extended time

When blue was down with her head between her opponents legs, her coach should have been calling to her to get her head out from between her legs. Pulling on the opponent’s leg only keeps your head trapped. Head goes down, to either side, and up to the waist. Walk hands up the body to the waist and make a pickup or takedown.

I wrestled in high school in the 70s. Hard work. Girls vs girls is great. Good outlet for their energy.

Blue has a great deal of mental determination and focus every time you see a photo of her eyes when she has her opponent in a hold It is a steely look of determined but controlled aggression. Very good in any fight sport LOL

When I was in 8th grade, the art teacher was also the wrestling coach. On the first day of school he announced he was recruiting for the wrestling team. Two girls in art class raised their hands for try-outs. He said, "There are no girls in wrestling; it's boys only." This was in 1989 at the height of G.L.O.W., and these girls were big fans. When they mentioned that women wrestle on TV, he said, "That's just fake Hollywood acting; real wrestling is dangerous and you can get hurt. That's why it's for boys only." Now here's the kicker: One of the girls was the mayor's daughter. Even after complaining to her own father that she wasn't allowed on the team, he backed the coach's decision to keep the team boys only. I can't imagine the firestorm that would happen if this scenario were repeated today!

Well the coach had one thing right TV wrestling is fake. I hate that they share the same name. That said it's great to see all of these ladies advancing, I wish my dad were alive to see this.

I remember GLOW. My favorite show of the time. Remember Hollywood and Vine? I did not get all the references at the time. My favorite was the farmers daughter.

Might have been state law back then, too. My freshman year in 86, we had a girl on the team who could practice, but she could never compete. She was my weight, so we wrestled together a lot, she was pretty good too.

this was on my feed. never watched wrestling much but i do love martial arts and i do samurai bujutsu. but this was spectacular. the girl in the blue was amazing. she worked hard to win.

These ladies are absolute pit bulls. I’m 6” tall and 180lbs and I have absolutely no doubt they could take me to the ground. I think this is amazing and excellent for all young girls and women to have these skills. They can really truly protect themselves. Obviously I get that they’re doing it for the sport and fun of the competition. I’m just saying, it’s a major major benefit to be a strong fighter like this. I feel this sense of tranquility knowing that these girls would have a damn good chance if they were attacked.

Why does this league only have one of the competitors wearing the headgear? All other states I've watched have both wrestlers wearing the headgear. Is the alternating headgear a Freestyle thing vs School competitions? Great matches for sure.

Blue’s coach needs to teach her to try takedowns without getting her head trapped between her opponents legs. Lots of techniques to exit the legs. Once the head is out, a successful takedown is possible.

In Freestyle or Olympic Style wrestling, "headgear" isn't a mandatory piece of equipment. In High School and College or "folkstyle" wrestling, the headgear is mandatory and an athlete can not compete without it, otherwise the match is forfeited. Any coach or parent with their salt would have their child using headgear. Cauliflower ear is no joke, can cause disfiguring and hearing impairment, despite cauliflower ear being a badge of honor in the wrestling community. I started wrestling at age 8 through my Sophomore year of California Jr college and wore headgear every year because of my parents strict requirements. I don't need to be noticed by my ears to identify myself as a wrestler. That's what we have the mat for!

I don't know anything about wrestling and am not sure how this got recommended to me, but I'm really happy to see teens with focus and determination out doing stuff instead of sitting passively on screens.

Nice to see they have teams for the girls now. When I was in wrestling in school they only had teams for the boys, so you had the rare girl that was on the team and there was always drama because of it. I have to say, the singlets they wear are way cooler than the ugly ones we had to wear.

Back in the 1980s, I was big into Judo, so I did junior/high-school wrestling for extra training. It was odd. We had a good number of girls in Judo (including some which made it to the national level in competitions and one who trained in Japan for a summer), yet... no girl's wrestling. Glad to see times are changing.

Tough kids. Wrestling was the most exhausting sport I ever did in school.

Boy, I wasn't sure what the score was until the fall. Don't refs (particularly in PA) give hand signals for when there's scoring? But give both of those ladies credit. That was a great bout.

In that first pin when the blue girl had the pink ear muffs girl in a head lock what is the ref waiting for. Blue girl had her pinned to the ground for about 20 minutes in an obviously very stable hold. Are they looking for something in particular? I totally need commentary of what is going on. Refs blow whistles declaring something happened but I don't know what, then they don't blow whistle. To someone with no experience in the sport it is very difficult to understand what is going on. Please consider a voice over commentating these videos. Looks like there is obviously alot more involved than getting your opponent to the ground.

I can't tell which girl likes Maryland.

I don't understand why that "move" is allowed in wrestling, but it looks like it's legal in all categories and ages.

At :40 ref calls them out of bounds. The whole right shoulder blade and half of reds body were still inside the circle/in bounds. What a lazy call.

At least it's a more even competition than when girls this age wrestle boys. The poor boys are terrified they'll be accused of 'inappropriately touching' the girls, and that gives the girls an unfair advantage.
