Thank you for sharing all your know how all these years. You and Kevin are the reason I bought a 12C. I just posted a video of me doing the accumulators (watched your videos of course and talked to Kevin first) and fixed my PCC change not allowed 🚫 message lol. I did have Kevin do all the fluids as I don’t have a lift and didn’t want to do them under jacks. Plus I’ve seen the videos and how much work goes into it. We did oil, brake fluid, trans filter and fluids, and air filters with the foam cleaned out.

I worked in a shop that specialized in Italian exotics, and my takeaway is that cars need to be used hard and often. Most of the breakage Ive seen is because of inactivity. There was a customer that had a Ferrari 360 Modena Spyder that came in with a gearbox issue. It was either a controller or servo, I can't recall. I asked the owner how often he drives it and where, and he said to the fancy restaurant on weekends. I told him that he was experiencing problems because he wasn't driving the car like it was meant to be driven. 6000.00 to fix. I get folks want to keep the miles down, but the car is deteriorating sitting or running. If a vehicle is allowed to cycle properly it will last longer. Give me the daily driver with miles and a service history over the time capsule any day.

We call it "lot rot", the higher mileage cars are always better. I recommend 2k miles a year and I avoid cars with less than that, of any make.

@@McMedics I would love to get a hold of an exotic and drive it like a fleet vehicle just to prove a point. I prefer Schaeffers full synthetics but I want to try Lubrication Engineers products from front to back next. Goal would be 1000 to 1500 miles a week. Why not? If these are supposed to be the pinnacle of engineering prowess let's see if they can really hold together.

You are absolutely correct. This is even true with normal modern cars. My wife's car started to act funny, I noticed that she never took it over 3k rpm when I rode with her. I took the car out and ran it up to 7k rpm in 1st through 5th gear. It smoothed right out.

Completely agree, I bought a Gallardo that was driven only 300 miles over the previous owners 3 years of ownership. I immediately started driving it almost daily and tons of things broke, and major things at that. Never buy a dormant car. The Gallardo I bought had 37k miles on it which is great, but the previous owner letting it sit killed it.

Straight to the point! The key I’m seeing here is to learn to do your own maintenance. I’m often overwhelmed working on cars when doing something new to me, then after I realize how simple it is majority of the time.

First thank you for all these videos over the years they have been awesome, also a quick question, would you still say it’s still worth a purchase now that it’s 10 years old, I realize your selling this so probably a yes lol, but I’m looking into to buy one nearby and my only concern with this is the longevity of getting parts for maintaining one of these

I’m curious to know what you think will be some of the more common big ticket items that will come up as these cars enter the 10-15 year range. Like things that will cost 5-10k+ that just have to be done due to age.

A true McLaren enthusiast! Thanks for the info. We were wondering whether the MP4-12C can now be regarded as a classic, so we made a film in which we interviewed its designer Frank Stephenson and two other McLaren gurus. We talked about classic potential and also - the big one! - values. If you would like to watch our video, here is a link: kzread.info/dash/bejne/dJyiy9aAf7DMpco.html
