0:00 - Intro
BAD:
0:46 - Range
IOniq 5 - 260 in AWD
MachE - 312 in California Route 1 (big battery AWD)
ID4 - 255
EV6 - up to 282 mi w/ awd if you DONT go for the GT Line
BZ4X - 228
Polestar 2 - 276 mi (302 according to WLTP)
Model Y - 330 mi
3:00 - Power
The IOniq 5 and EV6 bring 320 hp
Then the ID4 squeaks just over at 330
Then there’s the MachE CA Route 1 making 346
From there comes teh Model Y approaching 400 hp
And the Polestar 2 is the most powerful over 400 hp
And, of course, on the other end of the spectrum is the BZ4X with a mere 214 hp
4:05 - Price
You can spend as little as 41,600 for an Ioniq 5 - as tested here the car is 58,000 which is quite a bit, but trying to create a level playing field we actually see that it’s pretty competitive on price
BZ4X - 45,400
ID4 - 47,800
Model Y - 49,000
IOniq 5 - about 49,200
EV6 - 49,850
Mach E - 46 small battery, 50, big battery
Polestar 2 - 54,300
5:45 - Trunk Space
The IOniq 5 has 27.2 cu ft of trunk space with the seats up
THe EV6 & Polestar 2 are the only ones with less trunk space
The seats do fold nice and flat, but it is on the lower end of the segment it has to be said
GOOD:
6:26 - Charging time
If you can find a DC charger that’ll do it, you can charge the EV6 and Ioniq 5 from 10-80% in under 18 minutes - no one else is doing that…not even Tesla
7:15 - Tech
8:04 - Drive
9:39 - Rear seat space
10:17 - Looks
10:49 - Luxuries
11:35 - Vehicle to load capabilities
12:04 - Towing
12:22 - Safety
12:54 - POV Drive
15:52 - Conclusion

As an owner of a 2023 AWD Ltd I would say that you nailed it. When one looks at the overall user experience this car has no competitors under $70,000. A really nice little feature is that you can set the driver's seat to retract automatically when you turn the car off. This makes ingress/egress really easy as it moves the seat back to your preset position when you close the door. To be fair, my only complaint is the large turning circle due to the very outboard mounting of the wheels. At the same time, this is how they pack so much interior space in such a short vehicle.

Good thorough review that confirms what others have concluded about this EV. I desperately want one, as I'm fed up with my Model 3.

I was about to correct you on the hp of the ID4 but they've increased the it from 295 to 330 since I last looked. However, they still have dumb controls. The Ioniq 5 has the best overall package and I'm one of the people who loves the looks. 320 hp is plenty, I test drove it on the freeway and was satisfied.

In Canada we get heated rear seats, at least on the upper level trims.

I was at my local Hyundai dealer discussing an Ioniq 5. Their quote for a 2024 Ioniq 5 Limited RWD, with window tint, floor mats, 3 year, 12,000 miles lease was $577 a month with $2500 down. The prices have started to come

I just saw and sat in an Ioniq 5 at the San Diego Auto Show. I like the style of the vehicle, its features, price, and range. So it's at the top of my list. I like the matte color as well. Question, at the auto show I noticed the Ioniq 5 door handles wouldn't return to flat when you closed the door, although you could press them to return them to flat. I thought it must have been an issue with the particular vehicle they were displaying. However, I noticed your Ioniq 5 is doing the same thing at 12:04 in the video. What's the deal with that?

I thought the 2024 model had rear heated seats. 😞 Edit: I just checked my documentation from Hyundai and it says that it comes with heated rear seats. I will be some ticked off if mine arrives later this month without them.

16:05 it's a beautiful design and love the concept. but there is a ton of quality issues. 1. At least currently no reliable charging stations (Tesla like)when traveling across the country. 2. known issue with overheating charging class action issues.3. ICU comptuter issue. 4. 12v battery dies 5. Hyundai refusal or responsibility on battery replacement charging customers 60k for battery replacement 6. no over the air updates to major components. Perhaps the 2025 will address most of these issues.

What do you have against Nissan Ariya. I paid 48k have all wheel drive small battery and 336 hp. I get 225 miles on a charge. I know charging is slow but it works for me. I’m very satisfied.

225 miles spec means you'll get < 200 miles at 70 mph on the highway. Combine that with slow charging means you can't use this car for road tripping.

A small road hazard bump to the undercarriage could force the insurance company to total the Ionic 5 due to the replacement battery costing more than the original purchase price. See $60,000 battery elsewhere.

Spend a day driving these vehicles and you might reach a different conclusion. Tesla has a very real advantage (for now) with it's superior charging network but the poor ride quality is ever present in real-world ownership.

Battery replacement is $60k. If the underside of your vehicle is damaged by road debris, your warranty is void. Let that sink in.

So weird that even in 2024 in Canada we do not have ota updates or digital rearview mirror (but we do have heated rear seats)...it's coming in 2025...the wirless Android/car play thing i've heard is because of the tomtom gps agreement as they do not want you to use google maps
