    1. dont be too arrogant/snobby (be kind/thoughtful while mentioning things such as awards and achievements) 2. mentioning wrong school/getting facts wrong about school (make sure you are accurate) 3. being too negative (you should be inspirational and fuzzy) 4. make sure your story tells about who you are (like your personality, how you act, etc.)

Jeremiah Mano ED IS binding. You can apply to as many private early action schools (I’m pretty sure only one public). If u don’t apply EA at some schools like tulane u won’t get in so apply EA if possible. EA also lets u know if u get in earlier. RD is just regular. Some schools also have EDII, which u can apply to if u don’t get into ur first ED. Hope that helps.

lol my early action is due tmrw and i left everything to the last minute cuz i truly was just in writers block, if anyone even sees this and gives me some sort of feedback that would be great lol. Basically rn im not sure if i should keep on writing this but, my essay is about the time where i was in this stage at a modelling competition in a local mall at Jakarta my home city.i talked about my nerves, how the audience was loud, cheery, and for an introvert, this felt like the Superbowl. i also talked about how the building up of how i didnt feel like i could win amongst all these other talented girls. but i talked about at the crowd there was my parents watching me with a smile, my dad mouthing the words “thats our girl” and then after my short anecdote I jumped to talking about growing up in Jakarta i struggled with my self identity of being a mix kid (i know vey cliché) but long story short i wanted to highlight how growing up, my self worth was so small and i didnt have much friends but that small moment where i won the competition made me feel at total shock, i couldnt believe my ears when they called out my name. By then my confidence grown and moving to a new school opened so many doors for me, i was able to grow, my first language was english so a lot of kids used to make fun of me but growing older i was able to speak indonesian better, and talk to more ppl and make genuine relationships. Take up leadership roles and becoming the head of arts for student council, and other cool stuff i never thought i could do before, all this happened because i truly finally believed in myself, and that whole stage moment only gave me this little push to strive to find myself and become mature as a person.. then i think i might end with after that day of winning i come home with my whole family enjoying my favorite soup noodles ever from my home town’s chinese restaurant l go a lot since i was a kid (lol maybe not add that it doesnt relate to everything im saying) but hopefully this makes sense, theres some parts i left out which is in the essay but kinda hard to put it all in this comment. If its not good enough or doesnt rlly relate to prompt one on identity, background, or talent ig im screwed lmao pls be dead honest, i know so much of these parts are cringe, i rlly dont wanna sound like a snob cuz thats just not who i am

The reasons that I have for wishing to go to Harvard are several. I feel that Harvard can give me a better background and a better liberal education than any other university. I have always wanted to go there, as I have felt that it is not just another college, but is a university with something definite to offer. Then too, I would like to go to the same college as my father. To be a "Harvard man" is an enviable distinction, and one that I sincerely hope I shall attain. April 23, 1935 John F. Kennedy

I have my essay finished and I wrote about a specific trip I had to france, and how I prepared for the trip by learning about the language and culture and I wrote about all the issues I was faced with in between and how I overcame them. I wrote about a Parisian man that gave me insight on what it takes to be successful and stuff along those lines. Since you are not strong on the academic side, you could get in if you demonstrate really strong characteristics in other categories, for example, being a really good athlete and having national recognition, or participating in impactful research, etc, and having a really good overall application, with stellar recommendation letters and compelling essays. Otherwise, it would be unlikely for a student with a 33 act and 3.5 uw gpa to get in, because that is really below their average student academics. If you still have time (I know this response is kinda late), I would recommend you to, if possible, improve your gpa and test scores (a 35 act would be really good). A strong academic profile for top-tier schools would be something like 4+ weighted gpa, 34-36 act, 750+ sat subject tests, and maybe some medals in competitions. (btw that is not a gpa, im assuming you got a 3.52 )

I’m by no means an expert, but I’m writing my essay on being a lesbian, and I took it to a few people who said it’s really good, so here’s my advice: I think it’s a great topic and one that has the potential to reveal a lot about you. But the biggest part is using your journey as a transgender person and your unique experience to show how it has shaped you and made a better, stronger person. Don’t just say “I’m trans,” say “BECAUSE I’m trans, I’ve learned to be strong/accepting/resilient” But it’s a really good essay with a lot of potential to show emotion and growth.

There are actually not 2, but 3 topics you should avoid. Religion, politics and SEX. No matter how tolerant people are nowadays, it is always a little risky to consider your gender as an applicable topic, especially in your COLLEGE essay.

Hey Brooke! I really enjoy your videos but I found the part where you talked about ailments to be problematic. I totally understand the importance of focusing on what you learned from the experience rather than the hardship itself, but the way you phrased it came across that only life-threatening illnesses are life defining, which is definitely not the case. Your tone just minimized the consequences of non life threatening illnesses which actually alter lives. I hope you don’t continue to perpetuate the idea that chronic illnesses, especially pain, are not valid. Just some food for thought! :)

  • @brookifyd

Only you can determine whether something is life defining. I am sharing from my experience what I've seen that doesn't work so well or makes people seem to be making things that are more minimal discomforts out to be their "toughest challenges" in life which can come off as awkward or make people seem like whiners. Please take everything with a grain of salt. Even the toughest topics to pull off can sometimes make for a good essay in some circumstances-- I'm speaking to my experience and the majority of essays that come across my desk in this category.
