I feel that I'm never going to have that "spark" in my essay. I have no cool achievements and especially with quarantine I have no opportunities. I had so much planned for this year. awesome. So many are...not awesome. Your essay was awesome. Even the mix of diff sized sentences "...I took a nap" held on to me. The figures of speech, the sounds you used and the central idea...the moment. The moment. Good job! The goal: write something, do many (8?) drafts, yes, follow some rules, yes, show it to someone you trust for help, BUT take the risk. ?Then, you'll be soooo attached to and protective of it, it'll be undeniable. Like, "If they don't like it, I don't like THEM!" :) People: if you go somewhere, to a place you really were, you can take us there too. And we will be moved. About puzzle pieces. Which you thought nothing of until this.

I feel so extremely stupid. I am so late to the entire college application process! It is nearly the end of August and I haven’t even started writing my essay. I had no idea I had to start so early. So basically I’m not getting into college 😪

well in terms of coming up with ideas, I made a list of things that I personally feel passionate about and tried to focus on themes that I thought would be unique and personal to me. Also, I tried to stray away from anything too academic or related to school because I wanted to focus on showing another side of myself that is totally seperate from stats and ecs. In terms of choosing my final topic to go all in on, there werent that many factors that I had in mind other than what was the easiest for me to write about. I found that the topics I found easier to write on came across more personal and genuine since I had a better personal understanding and experience with it. Dont be afraid to write on things you might think or mundane or insignificant if you find it personally meaningful. thats what i kind of did and i really like essays that have those kinds of topics because i think it has a lot of potential to be more personal and interesting than broad topics. hope this helps and feel free to ask anything i didn't answer fully! gl

aw thanks :) honestly, i had the same problem and my parents pushed me to start in august last year haha. the way i somewhat motivated myself last summer was by telling myself i was going to put in the same amount of time into it regardless of when i start. if i didn't spend 2 hours at the moment working on my essays, i would end up spending two hours on it at a later time when i would probably be a lot busier with ec's and hw which would have been a lot more stressful. hopefully, you'll be able to do what i WISH i did and avoid my mistakes because i ended up having many restless days and nights the weeks leading up to the deadlines because i had to start and finish a lot of my essays in a short period of time.

haley kang thanks for this reply :) i just finished junior year about 2 days ago and i’m really trying to motivate myself to start. i have so many ideas but it’s just a matter right now of putting my thoughts and ideas onto paper

honestly, you have so much time haha. i didn't even start thinking about it until probably late june or early july after junior year. don't stress too much about it right now! also on the jumble of thoughts, i felt the same way and i somewhat organized them by writing everything, whether or not it makes sense, down and to go from there!
