I wrote about how I was going through a lot of bad stuff mentally while in 10 grade. I didn’t really know who I was as a person or personality wise. Then I got an opportunity to backpack across Europe when I was 16 years old for 2 months. I walked 500 miles across Spain. I learned to love myself and become impressed with myself on that trip. I then did online school my junior year and got straight As while doing it. Didn’t get me into Texas but oh well couldn’t afford it anyway lol

That sounds like such a fun and fruitful experience! I wish I would have gotten to do something like that, at 16 I didn't get any time to think about who I am as a person, all time was poured in academics. I'm going to college in a few months, I hope I get to explore myself then :)

There’s multiple things you could talk about. While I’m Hispanic, there’s multiple things I could write about (and I have). My hobbies, family members who’ve impacted my life. Etc. You just have to be good with twisting something to stand out. I talked about being resilient during Junior year and how it reminded me of an animal that evolved for the sole basis of survival in a place where others couldn’t.

@@prettyrandomtaco477 that sounds like a really good essay you did! maybe I could talk about being severely bullied in school + my former workplace and learning to become resilient + forgiving? @@olivia-oz3qe that’s perfect! Personally, I went through a terrible time Junior year, I honestly didn’t know if I’d even live through that year. I explained how while I didn’t know what the rest of live had entailed, I was willing to push through it. Another essay I wrote was about how I was sexually harassed which made me want to advocate for people full time. What you just explained can definitely be twisted into an interesting story, you just need to thoroughly connect those points of the essay to your life. I believe in you and good luck on essays:)

@@prettyrandomtaco477yeah same. Most people talk about race because it’s not easy and many people have faced racism one way or another. But there are many things to talk about. I wrote one about being shy and how I found my voice through my writing. I also wrote one about taking chances for opportunities, even if I’m scared I won’t make it. There are plenty of topics you can discuss if you just reflect on your life.

Literally anything. Maybe about one specific point in your life, it doesn’t have to be crazy as long as you explain how it changed or affected you. Could be as simple as like a thanksgiving dinner or smth or going down to the coffee shop, or feeling like your life is ‘normal’ in the first place? Just some ideas?

  • @xxmelancholicxx

I wrote mine on deciding to wear my glasses instead of just kind of being able to see stuff. I got into every college I applied to, though I didn’t apply to any ivy leagues. Being normal is fine, you just have to talk about finding identity and community if you haven’t overcome a big struggle (but you can also talk about little struggles).
