The deeper stuff is flakey, I have the mini and pico and there are issues with these devices. The smart tunnel mode that deeper has built in doesnt work and full tunnel mode drops your speeds drastically. The pico simply doesnt work as a wifi relay and good luck getting support.... Do yourself a favour stay away from deeper.

Stingrays (often deployed at large venues) makes hotspot/tethering substantionally less safe than if you could be certain you were connecte directly to a genuine cell tower, but the phones do not know. Stingrays greatly reduce security to all connected devices, perhaps as badly as general public wifi spots. Even if you are not connected through a stingray, I trust the cellular companies no more than any other of the large isps (very little).

Hi Josh! I was wondering about the part when you say protecting my online gaming. What can you tell more about this? What are the risks that I may face if I don’t use certain VPN servers that you suggested when I do a lot of online gaming? Also, thank you so much for this video! It has already answered my other questions that I had a while ago regarding my privacy and data protection. I travel fairly often and didn’t always felt comfortable connecting to public wifi networks even if this is no longer a huge safety risk, but also didn’t know what else to do to better protect myself when connecting to the internet while being away. I now know what to do thanks to your knowledge that you shared with us. Really appreciate for that!

Awesome! I'm glad the video was useful. For gaming, there is a small but growing problem of gamers getting hit with DDOS attacks and other issues related to their IP address. By using a VPN, they mask their IP address and limit these risks. If it's not a problem for you, there's no need to start using a VPN for your gaming.

Your comment is the one I wanted to see from in videos and other people talking about it. DNS is probably the most easy way to track you, direct almost all advertises to you and block you from access online content, I pay for the Adguard DNS after testing a lot of others including NextDNS, use my own lists and I have no false positives at all, yet I keep a 24hours-only track to see my overall blocks and turns out it blocks almost 50% of the requests from my phone, most of it are Google, Microsoft, Amazon and Facebook requests. And what I found out after testing more than 10 paid VPNs is that almost all of them don't have a DNS that blocks that much stuff. I'd really like to see more people concerned about DNS instead of only VPN services.

Really like that you mentioned mobile hotspots as I personally almost never have a need to use public ones. XD Trying to connect to public wifi was just so frustrating and limiting when I was younger that the instant I got my own data and data became so cheap to use, I basically opted out of the whole public wifi thing. I did briefly use public wifi while studying some point later but then I'd forget I was on it while doing non-study stuff and the whole thing just made me super uncomfortable knowing the uni would have access to Everything so I just started turning it off. I struggled to even write stories in Word sometimes because it was through the uni. It became one of those Things that as I got older and had more options and understood that anything connected to the uni wasn't private, I just wanted out of when it came to my personal life, so it was just easier to just not.

No, that’s all you need to do, just make sure that you’ve added a good password to your hotspot so that nobody else jumps on. The thought process here is that instead of joining an open, public network, you’re just continuing to use the mobile data that you use on your phone on a daily basis. Now, if you don’t trust your mobile provider, then you have other things to worry about… 🤣

Connecting via your phone requires trusting your phone data provider - this is the same level of risk as trusting a VPN provider or a home ISP. Networks in cafes/airports etc. are notoriously filled with adverts. The technologies that support advert delivery and advert content themselves present a risk - for example in fingerprinting devices by tracking across sites. There are also security limitations in the technologies themselves sometimes.

Hey there Heidi! Thanks for watching and commenting 👍 The reality is that nowadays, your general internet browsing is pretty secure (as long as you're visiting https-encrypted website). I don't use a VPN or alternative unless I'm particularly worried for some reason - and that's pretty rare. The *more important thing* to consider when it comes to hackers is how you secure your online accounts. Do you have strong passwords? Do you use 2FA? These are the things I would work on first before worrying about adding additional encryption to your general internet activity. I hope that makes sense!

If you go with a VPN, make sure it is not based in a "Five Eyes", "Nine Eyes", or "Fourteen Eyes" country, or it could by law be required to save info for the government. The five best countries for your privacy VPN base would be Switzerland: Federal Data Protection Act, Panama: Law 81 of March 26th, 2019, Malaysia: Personal Data Protection Act, Romania: General Data Protection Regulation, British Virgin Islands: Strict Judicial Codes. (Express VPN is based in the British Virgin Islands. NORD VPN is based in Panama. Both great.)

@@sunshadow9704 Wrong…a few will. Because they must follow the privacy laws of the country they are based in. Companies and countries say “No” to the U.S. and other countries all the time for various things. If you go with Express VPN or Nord VPN…(or a couple others). you’re pretty damn safe. Just don’t go with a VPN company that is based in a “Five Eyes”, “Nine Eyes”, or “Fourteen Eyes” country. And make sure that the country they are based in have very very tight privacy laws. The best VPN’s don’t want to go giving private customer information away and end up losing customers and business and getting a bad reputation. The best VPN’s are the best,..precisely because they DO protect their customer’s privacy.

You appear to be looking at a camera that is switched off during sections of the video, so all we see is the side of your face and you talking to the wall ! It helps if you watch the videos before uploading and errors like this can be fixed.
