Not all VPNs are created equal. Except when it comes to their "no logs" promises. In that regard, they all pretty much lie. Here's what I mean: kzread.info/dash/bejne/ioqEyNuIYMbFkpc.html

@@klayed [Edited for clarity] He's an a-hole because he didn't respond? You may be too quick to call him names. Especially when you think it through: How is this creator supposed to read Every comment in Every thread on Every video? That's not always possible because he can have several videos per week. Each of these videos can have hundreds or thousands of comments. Plus, he has to do the research, filming, and editing for each video's content (which takes a lot of time even if he has someone editing for him). And, do things in his every day life, like get sleep, spend time with family and friends, run errands, etc. This is how it works. Brand new channels can get back to comments easier because they don't have many viewers. But, the more viewers and comments a channel/videos gets, the more difficult it is for the content creator to read through and respond to them all, so they'll just respond to a few and the rest is about viewers chatting with each other in the thread. So, maybe another viewer will respond to that question. Just something to think about

Based on the intro, I was expecting you to compare speeds and latency. Although, you only compared price, refunds and installation speeds. I'd love a follow up on this, but I understand if this isn't something you're interested in, especially with the cost involved, even if refunds are possible.

In my experience, speeds are dependent on so many factors beyond the control of a VPN company. In my opinion, the reviewers who are comparing speeds are just blowing smoke. It’s a mostly useless metric.

Yes, speed is very important factor for me too. If your home connection is at least 50 Mbps, I think most of the slowdowns will come from the VPN side. And there're many factors: do they configure the servers correctly, how many servers they have, how many servers in the country that you want to link to etc.

@@AllThingsSecured Yes, I agree. It would be complicated because you would need a single Internet connection at one place and accounts on different VPNs. Then you would connect to different countries and test speeds.... Granted, having people from those countries doing the same would be ideal but I think that you could get some interesting data anyway. As a person who wants to be slightly safer when connecting via "dodgy" wi-fi for work purposes, your video seems to have no real value for me. You said that there are no actual differences between VPNs. I am guessing that you watched a KZread to get that information - which was it?

My current VPN doesn't work well in the country that I'm in and my subscription expires in a few months, so I was planning to test one or two of the other popular ones to see if they work any better before I commit to one of them and was wondering how much of a hassle it will be to get a refund if things didn't go smoothly.

Thanks for the comparisons, Josh. Just subscribed and am enjoying your content. Regarding the cost comparison, several VPNs (I use PIA) offer multiple devices under the one subscription, and also offer the option of flashing the VPN onto compatible modems for complete coverage. Regarding the multi-step cancellation, could this actually be a good thing, like MFA, to ensure that it's actually you that's cancelling the service?

I was surprised that you did not mention Mullvad. They are extremely privacy focussed and do not ask for any data. You get an account number and a bunch of ways to pay. In fact you cannot have a subscription because they do not store your data. As a VPN they do exactly what I need.

Im personally using IVPN for a couple of years and I have to say they do not really offer much (in my opinion) some advertisement claims on encryption. They clearly state what an VPN can and can’t to and so on.. when it comes to privacy (and trustworthiness) I would always choose some equally trustworthy providers like Mullvad, IVPN or Proton VPN (and do to their large user base not so much Nord VPN).

I appreciate the video! I actually got an email (in my dedicated VPN email account 😉) from my VPN service 30 days before the auto renewal. They quoted a renewal price that seemed high - especially compared to what they charge for new subscriptions. No information in the email about how to opt out of auto renewal - not surprising. When I logged on to manage my billing settings, there was an “offer” I could claim that added 18 months to my subscription for the same price it would have automatically renewed at if I had not done anything. The price for 30 months in total was very reasonable. Still, it’s kinda stinks that they don’t automatically renew at the lower price for existing customers. They are definitely looking to take advantage of people’s inertia.

I work for a bigger IT company that works with those online services requests as well, and we have to contact the customer to confirm the cancelation, since in 75% of the cases they made a mistake and they keep the service...so relying on cst saying "I wand to cancel" would end in his business having a massive service outage. Feedback from cst was often "I didn't knew what it was, so I selected cancel, then asking iIT and telling me they need it" ... boss has no idea, IT said we need a service, get the Ok and then boss sees the invoice and wants to get rid of it. When we don't get a response we keep the service active and close the case when there is a paid service involved. But with the opening of the SR the 30 day refund time gets frozen, so even when the case gets completed after 35 days they still get full refund.

First time using any VPN. If I am limited to one device such as Proton; Should I use it on my iPhone, I use daily, I am at least conscious of privacy and settings and such, at best I practice decent habits. Or, should I use it on my laptop - I cruise on that maybe once a week - Ive used uBlock Origin for years and really enjoy it. Other options? My biggest concern is privacy - avoiding ads, tracking, collecting data/info. Help!

So I find a number of VPN Providers can be very deceptive. I asked them to explain their re-billing amount as I based Nord on a 12-month, but it was 15 months. Then based on this I looked at what it would cost me just monthly and based on a 15-month amount. 15 months would have been more expensive and they really could not explain why. At the end of the day I would pay monthly as it would be cheaper and I would not have to pay upfront. Maybe I might be able to get a deal in a year for renewal, but then again maybe not. I think a great number of them do not want you to know what the rebilling amount will be. Just something to be curious about. Yearly normally should be less expensive VPN re-billing does not seem to be.

I use signal most of the time. is there a simple way to use vpn> I found it tiresome to connect each time I turned my phone or laptop or desktop on. And which site do I use? if I am in north america is it imperative to use a fake email address and name and only connect to a vpn address in europe? this whole thing make my head hurt.. any advice you can give me would help

Several of the security solution providers that also do anti-malware or identity monitoring and Antivirus are also doing vpns now. I think both Webroot Norton and bitdefender do I think. Also some of the cellular providers provide for their wireless phones but I don't know why you would buy it for your provider

Mullvad is based out of Sweden, which is one of the 14 Eyes countries. I wouldn’t use any VPN service based out of the following countries Fourteen Eyes countries: US, UK, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, Denmark, France, the Netherlands, Norway, Germany, Belgium, Italy, Sweden, Spain.

@@FlyinZX10R I think that they are the best option from the VPN's selection that there is. They are Open source. You can pay in cash or Monero for anonymity. Also quotes from their site "The key in operating a VPN service is to store as little data (any kind) as possible. Data that you don’t have can’t be handed over to anyone.", "We do not store user traffic logs of any kind.". Look at their privacy section and what they don't log. And for last they are the first recommendation of the Freedom of the Press Foundation. I think they are doing more than enough for the privacy and anonymity of their customers. I'm very curious about which VPN you are using.

Hi. I have a much deeper question about VPN-s. I'm trying to get a clean Dedicated IP address in US. How do I do that? I got Nord VPN and dedicated Ip address from them, but after it was assigned after I checked it for Fraud Score it was very high like score of 99 and it was not clean IP address. Any idea?

When you need that extra security the most , for example online banking, that's when I have to turn it off. I use my built in McAfee VPN. FYI I couldn't even post this comment without turning off my VPN because it said failed to post! Its annoying!

I usually don't use vpn. I think it's too expencive. But when i could buy nord vpn for 2 years for under 40$ per year i got that. So i use vpn now. Most on my phone. And that's because i just use my phone most. I sometimes need to pause the vpn to get on websites and some streamimg services. But 99% of my use i don't even notice i have a vpn. Expect that the ads i see seems to not be as targeted towards me as they use to be.

I tried Proton because I like their email. But the VPN not so much. Either I really need to learn how to setup and use a VPN or it really slowed down my computer to the point it kept disconnecting me so much so, I asked for a refund that same day. My experience was that I had to chase them for this refund for a few days because it kept showing up as a Credit to my Proton account and not a refund. After FINALLY talking to a live person, he issued the refund right away. Thanks for your research on this, even though I'm still without a VPN I'm not sure I want the hassle.

Surfshark doesn't let you turn off auto-renewal by yourself. The setting isn't hidden, it's non-existent, even their help section says you need to contact customer support to turn it off (just google it to confirm if you want). And customer support tries to make you change your mind, they don't just comply. Furthermore, you can't remove your credit card info by yourself. All of that is unbelievably shitty and unethical. Be warned.

I gotta say, though...I am less concerned about a refund policy and I am more concerned about where the VPN is located (i.e., which country are they based in) and whether they are notorious for DNS leaks. Now I am curious as to how Proton VPN stacks up to Mullvad...because I could save myself $60/year. haha
