#4 - Tesla Model Y compared to Tesla Model 3 side by side

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Comparing the Model Y and the Model 3 cargo space, using 2 bicycles, a whole bunch of soccer equipment, 7 pieces of luggage, and a ton of flowers. We also measure to confirm whether or not a 75 inch TV box would fit easily in the Model Y, and I wrap it up with a quick shot of using summon to take the Model Y out of the driveway, turn it around, and bring it back.

    2 years in, and you're still the most relevant example of how to fit two bikes inside those two Tesla models. Thanks for the time you've put into this video, there's none better!

    There is a lot of space for a family in the Model 3 trunk! Your comparison is the most clarifying on youtube

    The volume of the background music is perfect. I love this, other videos it’s a guessing game trying to hear them speak over the blasting music. Great video! This is exactly the video I’m looking at took. Thank you.

    Thanks a lot. This video was very helpful. 👍🏻 Model Y trunk is awesome. Great family car. But Model 3 cargo space isn’t that bad also. I was surprised that all the bags fitted in there. Greetings from Germany!

    Thanks. My wife is a gardening fanatic. She loves having a backyard filled with flowers. My first few videos didn't ever fill up the Model Y to capacity, they were more about 'can a specific thing fit', not 'how much total can it fit', so I realized with this video just how much more you can actually get into the Model Y.

    I am amazed by how much it fits! I am considering getting a Y and I am very tempted seeing how much bigger it is compared to my 3. Your video shows a much larger cargo space there is for just a 10% bigger model.

    Very helpful video and I really like how you respond to the comments and share your thoughts.. I want the Tesla for the daily drive from home to office, gym, Photography.. just thinking if the model 3 will be enough for the gears and tripod or shall I consider the Y .. also noticed that you liked the driving experience in 3 more than Y

    My 3 is also a RWD, so that may impact my experience some. The acceleration feels like it’s pushing me forward and up a little, which is different from the AWD acceleration of straight forward and level. I can fit all my videography gear in the 3 easily, but the Y would definitely be easier because you can lift things up and out, instead of pulling them straight backwards to get them out.

    Handy video Jeremy. Question, did you use the extra space under the boot floor (where the charging cable usually lives) when trying to fit the luggage in the model 3?

  • @JeremyHalbert

    Yes, I used all of the space available.

    We own a Pathfinder Platinum and are shopping for a Tesla. Just drove the Y and 3 this last weekend, so this was very useful! How long did you have your Model 3 before you added the Y? I’m thinking I might get the 3 as a commuter. My wife got a 2021 CX-5 Signature in January… or else we’d be looking at both being Teslas. 🤷🏻‍♂️

    So, to the important question, which one is faster?

  • @JeremyHalbert

    @JeremyHalbert

    2 жыл бұрын

    For us, the Y is faster because it has the performance boost upgrade and it’s AWD. The 3 is rear wheel drive only. But if they had the same configuration, the 3 would be faster.

    The reason why it is useless to compare cargo space is trailer hitch. If I need space for vacation I get a trailer and load any bike, stand up paddles, second wife and more kids into it and I’m ready to go. It’s useless to drive around alone in a big car 90 % of the time.

  • @JeremyHalbert

    @JeremyHalbert

    2 жыл бұрын

    If you’re only needing the larger cargo space in rare occasions, that’s valid. But if you drive your bike to a trail every morning and just want to throw it in the back of the car without taking the wheel off, then having a larger car does have an impact on your day to day experience. Or if you coach soccer and need to throw a lot of gear in the back 3-4 times a week for practices and games. Those are the types of things we use it for and do impact the regular driving experience. But, I do prefer the driving dynamics of the 3, and choose to drive that one whenever I don’t need the cargo space.

    Can the Model 3 tow as reliably as the Y? The Y seems meant for towing. I'd rather have extra space readily available than to tow something.

  • @JeremyHalbert

    @JeremyHalbert

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@joshwaloveslotr I'm not sure. We don't have the tow hitch for the model 3, and mine is a rear wheel drive 3, so even if we did, it wouldn't be the best comparison.

    We have a trailer and 750kg folding camper and tried the Y and 3, both rwd. Clearly the Y has more boot space and the hatchback but we've ordered a 3 as preferred how it feels on the road - really good fun to drive, like a go-cart - and it's narrower width is better on UK roads. The trailer will deal with any bulky loads. We camp no more than 6 times a year so couldn't justify the the extra cost of the LR (saves only one charging stop) and prefer the LFP batteries. I might make a video on our towing experiences as there aren't many on YT.
