The footstrap tip was what made the difference to get foiling for me. I was really struggling and when I put on the footstraps all changed. Because the back footstrap is on center line I knew if my foot is in then it is also on the center line. As an old windsurfer the straps gave me a familiar feeling and confidence!

BRAH!!!!!! SO ON POINT!!! Tons of walk of shames because of my low litter boards that I’m use to ripping the surf on, high aspect signature albatross 210 I’m use to blowing the tail out the water and throwing airs & not getting a big enough 6m wing, starting with a 4m wing cause the cool kids were on the 4’s. Thought I was to good and way too cool 😎 only to look like a fool!!!!! Pumping the heck out of my wing and board, heart rate jumping to 170, rep after rep, gassed ⛽️ FRUSTRATED!!! Only to see a Uncle or Aunty cruising on by with no effort. When you do get on foil. Making sure you land all your moves so you stay on foil 🤦🏻‍♂️ 😂 SO ON POINT!!! Thank you for taking the time to make these videos and teach, also we can have humor in it, because we can all relate… SUBSCRIBED 👍🏽

Hey good video thank you. I especially like seeing the comparison in foil sizes. Also it's nice to be invited to call and given that number because if you're new into this like I am there are a lot of questions. I think I'll be talking to you!

Tip #5 would have been great to add: what dimension board do you recommend? For someone who's able to windsurf and surf on a shortboard, what's the relation of body weight and board volume for wing foiling?

Well Done. I Like the term "Wing Foil" I use a 4M Ozone Wasp with a SlingShot Hoverglide Infinity 76 on a Dialer 145. It is slow and easy for a 55 yo.

Hey there William! I've been trying to Wing ding with my infinity 76 also. I've kited it, in waves, for 15 months... And have a 6mt F1 swing and 6ft6 Misfit board I weigh 90kilos. Are you using with the mast in the normal forward position on the fuse or at the rear "B" mount (which I never used for kiting) In 14 knots I still can't "engage the foil" with the i76... But with a big slow Naish foil (actually only 200 Sq cm bigger than i76) I CAN get winging. Would love to know your setup and what you weigh and the winds you can get going. Thanx Joseph

not sure I agree on the footstraps but the pumping advice is spot on!

Footstraps can cause an ankle twist injury, expecially for beginners who are falling off the board frequently.

Do you start people off with straps right away? I've got a starboard wingboard. Just waiting on my foil to arrive. Was going to put straps on but was told not too to start with.

Great vid! Thanks Matt. Kiter from California here. I’ve been kitefoiling for 4-5 years, have a medium aspect kite-specific foil and decent volume board. Is it possible to just get the wing and pick it up without having to get a huge volume board and huge front wing foil?

You definitely can, it just depends on the rider and how confident you are on your foil and board. The larger volume definitely helps to start but you can use a skateboard or SUP to practice with the wing as well.

REAL Watersports Thanks. I might start out with a skateboard and a parking lot at first. When I get on the foil i will definitely start with both straps. Great suggestion.

is it possible to use the one board set-up to use both for kite foiling and wing foiling? (80kg rider)

Yes I often use my 4’5.5 Armstrong board for wing surfing. It is 33.5 L and I surf foil, kite foil and wing foil this board. It took me about 15 times riding a sup foil with the wing before I could ride that small of a board. It’s not easy to start but it sure is fun.

Is this a sport a senior can master ? I’m over 70 in good shape, windsurfed currently Kiting and learning to foil ?

Sure can. The cool thing about wing surfing is that you can start on land, then go to s big sup and work your way into riding a foil. We are teaching lessons at REAL Watersports that you can check out in this link below. The cool thing is that learning the basics and getting started on your own is safe and easy. Nice video! I live in a place where the medium wind speed is around 8 knots, is it possible to wingfoil?

  • @REALmattnuzzo

    @REALmattnuzzo

Yes you can wing foil in those conditions, but you need to be proficient on pumping your foil. Also you will need a good big foil and wing that will provide low speed lift.

So SLOW pumps BEFORE fast pumps! Got it :-)

  • @REALmattnuzzo

Yes. The slow pumps build up forward speed, then apparent wind and then boom you are up and foiling. Ha ha. Wish it was that easy but it does work like that.

When you’re first learning should you use a flat board with no foil?

  • @REALWatersports

A lot of people like to learn on a SUP depending on their comfort with a foil itself. It's definitely good to at least get some flat-ground work in with a wing before going out in the water.
