I was about to make a video with these exact points. I'm 6 weeks in - it's tiring learning and little things like carrying the board makes a massive difference.

@@Movesmedia Another pointer for people if they have fair walk to the spot is to take your wing and pump in the bag and sling the board or put it into the beach cart.

Great tips - especially the advice to start with a big board. I tried a 50L board and it just didn't work. Went to 110L SUP and it is so much better for learning. Limited supply meant I had to get an inflatable rather than a rigid board which I find very unstable, but it floats my weight...

Ya its amazing how many people still make that mistake. So much better to be floating vs sinking though. Where are you based?

@@Movesmedia I am in WestVan, a short drive from the Spit in Squamish. A great place to learn and I am seeing so many more foils and wings showing up these days. The sinkers with footstraps look like where I want to get to since we have been learning the foil thing behind a boat...

@@Movesmedia yes, brutal that road may soon be closed. To access the Spit we will have to boat over from Squamish. A major hassle and increase in cost, no organized group for retrievals. Not cool

Paddle in to shore as long as there is no shore break, or otherwise it's going to be a messy affair. Tip#5 Invest in an Impact vest and helmet, protect your self from that foil!

Good video. Thank you. Looking for words of wisdom on possibly a wing foil. I'm a long time "decades" long boarder to give real I idea what use/enjoy i have/had since 1993 a equipe xr2 an a phantom 377 since 2015 that like 377 better with it's advantages. Use 8.5 ezzy lions on both for decades with my local given conditions of 10-20 knots when I can sail June to September. I'm getting old 58 having a harder time transporting dealing with all on water with age becoming a issue. I'm 5.7 tall 170 lb like being able to hook into my harness enjoy the ride 10-20 knots. I'm looking for a long board alternative to keep me smiling on the water for many more years that I can transport an physically be able to enjoy. Wings to me seem like they would be physically demanding in comparison to be able to hook in the harness in comparison to longboarding in similar weather. Please give words of wisdom wing.. or...👍👎

Hey Joe, glad this was helpful! There are lot's of people I've met in your age range that have got into winging and really loved it. There is one thing I know for sure, your set-up winging is wayyyyy lighter than wind surfing. No mast, no boom, no problem... Your heaviest piece is your board. Do you have any expeirence riding with a foil wind surfing? Because you have lots of wind surfing experience I think you could get away with a smaller board. Getting something that's fully carbon will be very light and not too hard to carry. If you haven't been on a foil before there is definitely a learning curve. If you have wind surf foiled then I think you'll have no problem at all. the wing is way lighter than a windsurfer and not having a harness shouldn't be a deterent. Based on your conditions, you would probaly want a 5M wing for the lighter days (under 15Knots) and a 4M for the heavier days (over 15knots). The best thing you can do is give it a try to really find out but I really encourage you to give it a go. It's such a great feeling and way less rigging time/ hassel than kiting or wind surfing. Let me know if you have any other questions!

@@Movesmedia thank you. I have to sail in Rocky terrain. So I would need a board and a foil that can take somewhat of a licking and keep on ticking 🤞
